Chapter 144 - Chapter 144

"What happened?" The voice practically snarled in anger and accusation, earning slight winces from those nearby. Their leader, however, stood firm, gaze never so much as flickering. "I practically handed them to you on a platter! I provided the means to get through the protective wards, I provided the timing and location, I even provided you the means to arrive undetected and yet even with your entire damn pack you were unable to defeat children, school children!"

"The professor's had a faster reaction time than you or I anticipated." The alpha growled back, "Did you believe we could defeat the likes of Augustina Dumbledore and Grace Riddle?"

A huff of frustration and contempt answered, "Of course not, but you also had how much time before they arrived? Nearly twenty minutes if not more? Twenty minutes to break into an unguarded train and maul a bunch of teenagers but you couldn't manage it, could you?"

One of the Lycans spoke up earning an unseen scowl from Greyback, "There was another, a boy who..."

"A BOY!?" Came the borderline screech from their employer. "I PROVIDED EVERYTHING YOU NEEDED, PAID YOU, AND YOUR EXCUSE IS A SCHOOLBOY? "

"N-not just any" another protested, despite the humiliation such an admission would bring to them and their pack. "He used elemental magic, wielded it like none we have seen before. It was like encountering a trained master."

This had the shadowed figure pausing in consideration, mind whirling at what was being presented. She knew werewolves would not make up such frivolous excuses, it would do them no good to present themselves as being weak enough to be fended off by anything other than a powerful opponent.

She thought back on the rumors of the past two years, of the boy who went by the last name 'Potter' and all they had claimed he was involved in. At the time she figured it was nonsense, either rumors put forth by Dumbledore to aid her agenda of allowing more inferior males into the school or a Slytherin tactic to draw attention away from something, or someone, else.

Still, perhaps there was something more to him. If the Grace Riddle was indeed tutoring him then it must mean he had some talent otherwise she wouldn't have bother with such a charade at the expense of her own reputation.

"It is irrelevant" the oldest, and strongest, werewolf declared, eyes burning with anger and a desire for vengeance. "We will handle whatever problems might occur next time, we just need the opportunity."

The contemplative expression dissolved into an annoyed frown, "If you believe I am going to pay you again after your failure you are sadly mistaken. Still, you and your pack have uses. I will present you with an opportunity again. The minister is foolish enough that manipulating her to slipping up shouldn't be a difficult task. You will need to follow through on your end, however. I want what I paid for guaranteed first and foremost. I don't care about your political agenda or your pitiful acts of vengeance."

"Only your own," the Lycan correctly assumed, earning a scowl. "But as we agreed upon, we will deliver. The target will be dealt with when possible. Get them out of the castle and away from any major protections and we will take care of it."

"You better, do not assume you are the only means of violence I possess Greyback. Fail again and you might find yourself the target of my wrath."

"Undoubtedly some of you have already heard other professors or your heads of house talking about the dangers of the current situation. They have probably warned you about taking matters into your own hands or attempting to sneak out to earn some personal glory or other nonsense." The woman strode forward down the middle row, cloak flowing behind her like a black flame. "I will not be doing such things. Instead, I will be explaining some of the consequences of your actions should you choose to engage in such foolish, reckless behavior. For the next few weeks we will be focusing on curses, injuries, offense magic, and more importantly the results of them both for the wielder and the victims."

Finally, she reached the blackboard in the front of the room before taking a piece of chalk and writing down a few words.

"First up, what are widely considered the most dangerous and illegal spells in the magical world, The Unforgivables."
