Side story of togil
After the tournament ended, Envy was still fuming. Togil, the "Strongest Killer," had humiliated her by refusing to attack even once, despite having every opportunity to do so. Instead, he had used that bizarre item on her.
"Ugh, damn that guy! What was his reason for doing that to me?! I can't let this slide I have to demand an answer!!"
With grim determination, Envy focused her energy. Her portal skill could always track any target she desired. On the other side of town, the Strongest Killer was trying to enjoy some downtime after the tournament, completely unaware that his privacy was about to be heavily invaded.
The city of Tsuyoi Hito was dead silent. There, Togil was walking into a supermarket to buy survival supplies. He stood in front of the cashier, his expression flat and cold as usual.
Suddenly Woosh!
A purple portal the size of a window snapped open right next to Togil's head. Envy's face popped out, glaring at him intensely.
"Hey, you cold-blooded killer! Answer me! Why did you only throw that weird bottle at me when your sword was already at my throat?!" Envy barked.
Togil didn't even turn his head. He placed a few Haipur on the counter, took his grocery bag, and walked out of the store as if a mere fly had just buzzed past his ear.
"Hey! Don't ignore me, Togil!" Envy screamed before her portal shrank and closed as Togil walked out of her range of vision.
An hour later, Togil was sitting in the corner of a quiet restaurant. In front of him was a massive, expensive steak. Just as he cut a piece and prepared to eat, a portal suddenly opened directly above the table, swallowing the entire plate.
From behind Togil came the sound of chewing.
"Munch, munch... Mmm~ this is delicious! If you don't explain yourself, I'll keep bothering you!" Envy said, devouring Togil's steak greedily.
Confused, Togil thought to himself, (What is wrong with this girl?). Without a word, Togil suddenly bolted. He smashed through the restaurant window and vanished in an instant.
"Aarghhh! Are you a human or a block of ice?!" Envy shrieked in frustration, retreating into her portal and slamming it shut.
That night, Togil returned to his lodging. Exhausted and seeking refuge from that talkative woman, he decided to soak in a warm bath.
He leaned against the edge of the tub, closing his eyes.
His muscular, scar-covered body finally relaxed. The silence he craved had finally arrived.
However...
WOOSH!
A portal opened with a loud sound right in front of him.
"TOGIL! YOU CAN'T RUN THI—Eeeek!"
Envy's loud voice suddenly caught in her throat. Her sharp eyes widened, and her mouth hung open.
Her gaze landed on a soaking wet Togil, without a stitch of clothing on, sitting back in the tub.
Silence hung in the air for a moment. Envy's face turned a deep, beet-red.
"Y-Y-YOU... WHAT ARE YOU DOING, YOU PSYCHO?!" Envy screamed at the top of her lungs, instantly covering her eyes with both hands.
Veins of irritation popped on Togil's forehead. His usually calm aura shifted into a thick, suffocating killing intent. His privacy had been utterly violated.
With lightning speed, Togil grabbed a bar of soap next to him and, without hesitation, hurled it with all his might toward Envy's face inside the portal.
SWOOSH!
Sensing mortal danger, Envy shrieked in panic and scrambled to close the portal.
Thud!
The soap embedded itself deep into the bathroom wall, exactly where the portal had been a split second before.
Togil massaged his throbbing temples. The warm water now felt like it was boiling from his anger. "That crazy woman... Why does she remind me so much of her? Poor girl... Should I just tell her?"
The next morning, Togil sat on the balcony of his lodging, sipping coffee.
Envy appeared again through a portal, but this time, there was no shouting. She stepped out slowly, her face still flushing whenever she remembered last night's incident. She looked away, not daring to meet Togil's eyes.
Seeing Envy acting so awkward yet still stubborn enough to demand an answer, Togil finally gave in. He set down his coffee cup and gave one condition: "I'll tell you. But after this, never open your portal near me again especially not in the bathroom."
Envy nodded quickly and sat beside him, ready to listen. Togil's gaze gradually turned hollow and cold as he recalled a dark past from before he gained his Inventory and absolute power.
"The reason I won't attack or hurt a woman... is because I am bound by a promise from the past."
Envy, initially nervous, felt her eyes light up with curiosity.
Togil noticed her expression and managed a faint smile before continuing.
"I was born into a great clan called Tsuyoi Hito in Laponia.
I was born as an ordinary human no magic, no skills, no mana. I didn't even have a system panel. Life was... unpleasant.
People treated me so poorly that I stopped trusting anyone. But there was a ray of light someone who always came to keep me company, to help, to protect. But back then, I hated everyone.
I always rejected her and told her to get lost."
Togil's gaze drifted further away.
Envy held her breath, not wanting to ruin the rare, serious atmosphere. "Who was she?" she whispered.
"She was a cheerful girl, always smiling.
She was the only person who didn't look at me like I was trash," Togil continued, his voice growing heavy. "Even when I yelled at her, pushed her away, or ignored her for days, she always came back. She brought leftover food she stole from the clan kitchen, or she'd just sit beside me without saying a word when I was black and blue after being beaten by other Hunters."
Envy leaned in, her eyes shining with empathy. "Then... what happened to her, Togil? Why do you keep that promise so firmly?"
Togil was silent for a long time. "The world is unfair to the weak, Envy. Especially in a place like the Tsuyoi Hito clan, where strength is worshipped."
"One day, I was in grave danger, on the verge of death because of a monster attack. Suddenly, she appeared.
She tried to help me, but the monster was too strong. She..." A single tear escaped his eye. "She managed to defeat it, but she was left dying and covered in wounds. I tried to save her... but everyone turned me away. In my grief, she opened her eyes one last time."
In a dark, narrow alleyway where the wind howled...
A young Togil held a girl tightly in his arms, his clothes soaked in her blood. His voice trembled through the alley.
"You... you're going to live, right? People like you have 'three bloods,' don't you?"
"Cough... N-no, Togil. I... I don't have any more... cough... blood left."
Togil's face went pale. He sobbed uncontrollably, his tears falling into the pool of blood beneath them. "I'm... I'm sorry... please... I'm so sorry..."
In her final moments, the girl moved her hand shakily.
With the last of her strength, she created a storage space for Togil. "Togil... this... this is my last gift... cough... for you. P-please accept it, Togil," she said, smiling through the pain.
The last sparks of her life faded. her pupils dimmed, her hand fell limp, and she passed away with that same smile carved on her face.
Envy was stunned. She never imagined that behind the giant who could level a tournament arena lay the scars of a little boy crying in an alleyway while holding his only friend. Her resentment vanished, replaced by a tightening in her chest.
Togil wiped his tears roughly, returning to his cold persona. "She died smiling, Envy. She had nothing, yet she gave me this little 'world' through this Inventory. Since then, I swore..."
Togil's voice dropped lower. "I will never hurt a woman.
Because every time I see a woman fighting tenaciously like you did in the arena, I see her shadow. And I swore to become rich and powerful, so I would never have to beg those clan bastards for help ever again."
Togil stood up. "Now you know. Don't bother me anymore."
Envy watched his retreating back. She realized the Inventory Togil took such pride in wasn't just a display of power it was a grave and a memory he carried everywhere.
"So... that thing behind you is her legacy. I'm sorry, Togil. I regret forcing you to tell me."
Togil's eyes widened.
For a split second, he saw a reflection of the girl from his past in Envy's face. "It's fine. I haven't told anyone that story in a long time."
Realizing Togil was staring, Envy blushed. "Hmph... well, stop staring at my face then! Is there something on it?"
"Oh, it's nothing. Anyway, Envy... I want to thank you by taking you out to eat. Do you want to go?" Togil asked, reaching toward her.
"Yes! I'm in!" Envy jumped up from her seat, and stand with greatest feel to eat
