After sending Azula back to the Imperial Capital, Kahn didn't rest for even a moment. He immediately turned Nike toward his next destination.
Before leaving, Iroh had secretly informed him that he had contacted several of his Grandmaster friends—individuals whose strength and influence could shake nations.
Their replies were all positive. They were waiting only for Kahn to meet them.
Kahn had been thrilled.
Now that Ursa had regained her memories, the plan had officially begun. The sooner he gathered these Grandmasters, the better.
Of course, he also had… personal reasons.
When Iroh finally revealed the identities of these so-called "friends," Kahn was stunned.
Each name was that of a legendary figure whose deeds were told across the world. But thinking carefully, it made sense.
There were fewer than five recognized Earthbending Grandmasters alive.
If Iroh claimed that some unknown Grandmasters popped out of a mysterious organization, that would be suspicious.
But knowing the strongest Earthbenders were all interconnected elders?
Yeah, that sounded exactly like the sort of thing Grandmasters would do.
For Kahn, this was perfect.
One of his dreams was to travel the world, study other Earthbending styles, absorb their strengths, and forge his own path to Grandmastery. Meeting Earthbending legends from other nations?
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Under Nike' full-speed flight, Kahn quickly arrived at the first destination—Iroh's first recommended contact.
The Earth Kingdom.
Omashu.
Omashu and Ba Sing Se were the two most legendary cities in the Earth Kingdom.
Ba Sing Se was known as the "Impenetrable City"—the place where Iroh once suffered his greatest defeat, losing both the siege and his beloved son.
Kahn's father had also fallen in that battle.
Omashu, by contrast, was hailed as the Source of Earthbending. Innumerable powerful Earthbenders had emerged from its stone streets, forming the backbone of the Earth Kingdom army.
Its brilliant transportation system that channeled Earthbending into citywide slides had supported the war effort for decades.
But within this legendary city was an even more legendary man:
King Bumi.
The only living Grandmaster Earthbender.
The strongest Earthbender alive.
A walking relic of history.
The pillar of the Earth Kingdom.
The king of Omashu.
Nearly 110 years old—and frighteningly spry.
Even Iroh would show him respect.
It couldn't be helped. Bumi was so old he could practically claim to have taught Iroh's grandfather.
And today, Kahn was here to meet this living legend.
Kahn stood atop a mountain ridge, gazing down at Omashu with awe. It looked like something from a myth.
The mountains in this region were bare of vegetation, revealing massive slabs of yellow rock.
Omashu was carved directly into one such mountain. The city and the mountain were seamlessly fused, as if the stone itself had grown into walls and towers.
Its outer walls were sheer vertical cliffs—so smooth it was hard to believe they were natural.
And the land for a hundred meters around the mountain had been carved deep into a pit, leaving a single thin stone bridge connecting the city to the outside world.
No creature but Earthbenders could have created this.
Kahn exhaled slowly.
Earthbending's strategic potential was truly unmatched.
Move mountains? Fill the sea? They were not exaggerations. No wonder the Earth Kingdom could resist the Fire Nation's industrial army for years.
But…
"They said it's already arranged and that I just need to come. But…"
Kahn scratched his head.
Would the gate guards really let him walk up and say:
Hi, I'm here to see King Bumi. Iroh invited me.
Yeah, no way.
What exactly had Iroh arranged?
Was this a test?
Whatever the case, he wasn't turning back empty-handed.
And even if the city was an isolated fortress, unless they had Earthbenders flying patrols in the sky, they weren't stopping him.
Kahn waited for nightfall, then flew over the walls on Nike. He landed silently at the highest, most prominent structure in the city—undoubtedly the City Lord's residence.
Compared to the Fire Nation palace, the guards here were fewer, but that didn't make sneaking past them easy.
Earthbenders could sense vibrations in the ground—a natural radar. Kou Li used this exact ability to help find Ursa's hidden letter in the Fire Nation. He couldn't afford to underestimate it now.
Fortunately, Kahn had Heavenly Eye Vision from Spiritbending, a sensory ability no weaker than Earthbending, and in some aspects, superior.
He slipped into a room where, according to his perception, an elderly man lay asleep.
King Bumi.
But just as Kahn stepped inside, the "sleeping old man's" spirit suddenly plunged downward—and rushed toward him from below.
Kahn's eyes widened.
"This is… Earthbending?!"
Boom!
A hand shot out of the floor like a stone serpent, trying to grab him. Kahn reacted instantly, leaping back just in time.
"Hehehe—quick little fellow, aren't you?"
A bald, white-haired old man emerged half out of the ground, grinning with a bizarrely sharp smile.
Before Kahn could speak, the old man flung his arm and let out a gleeful, cackling cry:
"Hehehe! How about this trick?!"
The floor rumbled.
Kahn felt an immediate sense of danger and dropped into a fighting stance.
The next second—
The ground vanished.
The entire room plummeted downward, dragging Kahn with it like a stone elevator with no brakes.
"Holy—!"
Kahn couldn't help shouting.
What kind of monstrous Earthbending was this?!
