It was also an ancient contract, long forgotten by most mages of this era.
Typically, this contract was used to bind someone forever. It was impossible to destroy it unless the vow embedded within it was destroyed as well.
In Obsidia's case, the vow she made was to accept the founder of the Lyren family and all of their descendants as her masters.
She was absolutely forbidden from choosing anyone outside that bloodline. Instead, Obsidia could only survive by absorbing mana from her master's body.
Thousands of years had passed, yet the contract still remained in effect.
No matter how powerful Obsidia became, she would never be able to free herself from it. After all, she was the subject of the contract, which meant she had no authority to dissolve it.
