"What about allies?" Kaya asked. "Who might actually help?"
"That's harder to say," Vayu admitted. "Most tribes won't risk conflict with the major powers. But individuals might be swayed—especially outcasts, exiles, those who have grievances against the current system." He looked at Veer, Cutie, and Ryn. "You've already gathered a small group of allies. That's a start."
Kaya looked at her companions—the injured vulture leader, the small rabbit beastman, the recovering wolf. None of them were powerful in the traditional sense. But they were loyal. They were smart. And they'd chosen to stay with her despite the danger.
"Alright," she said, making a decision. "Here's what we're going to do. We rest here tonight, if Vayu allows it—"
"I'm already regretting it, but yes," Vayu interjected.
