Chapter 238 - Ch-238 Kage's Children.

Suddenly—just as the tension between them reached a fever pitch—both sides stood on the verge of moving.

Shamrock's grip tightened around the hilt of his sword, his body crouched slightly, ready to spring toward Gaara at any moment. A faint creak escaped the leather wrapping beneath his fingers.

On Gaara's side, sand poured out from the gourd on his back, swirling around him like a living whirlpool. It circled faster and faster, grains hissing softly as they scraped against each other, coiling with intent as if preparing to lunge at the grounded Shamrock.

The air itself seemed to hold its breath.

Then—

From the branches of the tree Gaara stood upon, wood suddenly began to grow.

It crept outward with unnatural speed, twisting and coiling like serpents before snapping tightly around Gaara's limbs and torso, locking him in place. At the same instant, from the ground beneath Shamrock, thick wooden roots burst forth, wrapping around his legs and arms, binding him just as firmly.

The sudden restraint broke the moment.

Shamrock's eyes narrowed. He didn't struggle immediately. Wood Release…

Gaara, too, stilled as the realization struck him, his sand halting mid-motion, hovering protectively but uncertain.

Before either of them could even turn to identify the source—

A figure appeared between them.

An ANBU ninja, silent as a shadow.

He stood straight, his masked face first turning toward Shamrock, then toward Gaara. There was no visible emotion, but the pressure in the air shifted—cold, authoritative.

In a voice devoid of warmth, he spoke,

"You both are participants in the joint Chunin Exam. Fighting in the streets of Konoha—especially shinobi combat—is strictly prohibited."

A brief pause followed, heavy and absolute.

"Immediately withdraw your killing intent… or I will be forced to detain both of you."

The wooden restraints creaked faintly as they held firm, the battlefield that never began now frozen in place.

As soon as Shamrock and Gaara heard the ANBU's words, the tension between them began to dissolve.

For a brief moment, neither moved.

Then, almost in unison, both of them let go of their fighting intent. The invisible pressure in the air eased, the sharp edge of hostility fading into stillness. Shamrock slowly loosened his grip on his sword, while around Gaara, the swirling sand settled, lowering itself like a tide retreating.

The ANBU ninja observed them carefully. The instant he felt their intent fully recede—both returning to a state of calm—he acted.

The wooden restraints responded immediately.

The thick roots and branches binding them began to withdraw, slithering back into the ground and tree as if they had never existed. Within seconds, there was no trace left behind—not a crack in the earth, not a mark on the bark.

Gaara stepped forward and jumped down from the tree branch, landing lightly on the ground with a soft thud. A faint puff of dust rose beneath his feet. He walked toward Shamrock with measured steps, stopping just a few feet away from him.

For a moment, he simply looked at him.

Then he asked, his voice quiet but steady, "What is your name?"

Shamrock met his gaze without hesitation. There was no tension left in his stance, but a certain sharpness remained in his eyes.

"You might have already guessed it," he said. "I am Shamrock Uzumaki… here in Konoha to participate in the joint Chunin Exam."

Gaara listened, his expression unchanged.

Then, without another word, he gave a small nod and turned around, beginning to walk away.

A faint breeze passed through the street.

From behind him, Shamrock's voice called out, "What is your name?"

Gaara stopped mid-step.

For a brief second, there was silence. Then, without turning back, he said,

"I am Gaara of the Sand."

Shamrock gave a slight nod, acknowledging the name.

Gaara continued walking forward. From the distance, Kankuro and Temari rushed toward him, quickly falling into step just behind him. As they passed by Shamrock, Kankuro glanced toward him and said, almost casually, "I am Kankuro of the Sand."

A moment later, Temari followed, her voice equally composed. "I am Temari of the Sand."

Their footsteps echoed briefly against the stone path.

Then, just like that, the three of them turned the corner of the street and disappeared from sight.

The ANBU ninja shifted his gaze toward Shamrock. For a brief moment, he gave a small, acknowledging nod.

And then—

With a soft swish, he vanished.

The street returned to its quiet state, as if nothing had ever happened. Only the faint stirring of dust in the air remained before even that settled into stillness.

After this brief conflict, Shamrock's group had no real intention of continuing to roam around Konoha or admire its scenery.

The earlier encounter still lingered in the air between them, quiet but heavy. Their mood had dipped, the excitement of exploration replaced by a subdued silence. Not the time for sightseeing… Shamrock thought, his gaze drifting ahead.

Without much discussion, they all reached the same conclusion—to return and rest. Tomorrow was the first round of the Chunin Exam, and whatever came next would demand their full focus.

They soon found Renji.

As they approached him, Shamrock spoke briefly about what had happened—his encounter with Gaara, the clash that almost began, and how it was abruptly stopped. Renji listened without interrupting, his expression calm, as if he had already anticipated something like this.

Once Shamrock finished, Renji gave a small nod.

"I know," he said. "Gaara is the son of the Kazekage… and a Jinchuriki of Sunagakure."

His tone remained steady, but there was a faint weight behind his words.

"I have heard that his life as a child has been quite miserable. He has suffered a lot… so his murderous intent toward you, and even his urge to fight—it's not unexpected."

For a brief moment, silence followed.

Shamrock nodded in understanding. He didn't say anything more, but the image of Gaara standing there, surrounded by that swirling sand, lingered in his mind. So that's the kind of life he's lived…

Soon after, Renji led them to the hotel he had already booked for their stay.

The streets of Konoha had grown quieter by then, the warm glow of lanterns casting soft light across the paths. A faint night breeze moved through the village as they walked, carrying with it the distant sounds of life winding down.

Once they arrived, they each went to their respective rooms.

The space was simple but comfortable.

Shamrock stepped inside his room, closing the door behind him with a soft click. For a moment, he just stood there, letting the quiet settle around him. The events of the day replayed briefly in his mind before slowly fading.

Focus on tomorrow.

The night had already deepened.

There wasn't much left to do. They spent some time reading, flipping through pages under the dim light, letting their minds ease away from the tension of the day.

And one by one, as the night stretched on, they prepared themselves for rest—ready to face the first round of the Chunin Exam at dawn.

The next morning…

Today was the day of the Chunin Exam.

The first round awaited them, and Shamrock's group was ready.

A quiet sense of anticipation hung in the air as they gathered in the dining area of the hotel. Morning light filtered in through the windows, casting a soft glow over the tables. The faint clinking of utensils and low murmurs of other guests filled the hall, but at their table, there was a focused silence.

They ate without much distraction, each of them immersed in their own thoughts.

Once they had finished eating, Renji stood and reached into his coat.

One by one, he handed each of them their ID cards.

As he did, he spoke in a calm but firm voice, his eyes moving from one to the next.

"All of you… do your best."

There was a brief pause, as if he was choosing his next words carefully.

"And you don't have to force yourselves for anything. You don't have to think that if you don't perform well, or if you get bad results, it will harm the reputation of the Uzushiogakure."

His tone softened slightly, but the weight of his words remained.

"You don't have to carry that burden—the burden of reputation and expectations. Leave that to us adults."

A faint rustle passed through the room as someone shifted in their seat.

"You just have to do your best. Nothing more."

He looked at each of them once again, making sure his words settled in.

"And if you find yourselves in a situation you cannot get out of…" he added, his voice firm again, "then give up. Survive."

For a moment, silence lingered at the table.

As soon as Shamrock heard this, he looked toward Renji, his eyes filled with conviction, unwavering.

"Do not worry, uncle," he said. "We will definitely win… and we will bring back first place."

A faint spark of determination flickered in his gaze. There's no other outcome.

Renji looked at him for a moment, then smiled and gave a small nod.

"Best of luck to all of you," he said.

Then, with a slight gesture toward the exit—

"Now go."

Shamrock's group left the hotel and made their way toward the Konoha Ninja Academy.

The morning air was crisp, carrying with it a quiet sense of anticipation. As they walked through the streets, more and more shinobi could be seen heading in the same direction, their movements purposeful, their expressions sharp. Everyone's here for the same reason…

Soon, they arrived at the academy.

After a brief search, they found the classroom where they were to take the exam.

The moment they stepped inside—

They were met with a wave of scrutinizing gazes.

The room was already filled with ninjas from multiple villages, and the atmosphere was far more intense than usual. Compared to the original Chunin Exams—where only Konoha and Sunagakure had major presence—this time, all five great villages were represented.

The air buzzed with quiet tension.

Every pair of eyes turned toward the newly entered group.

Their presence did not go unnoticed.

As those ninjas observed them—taking in their posture, their composure—their gazes soon dropped to the forehead protectors they wore. Recognition sparked almost instantly.

Five individuals.

And leading them—two red-haired figures, one boy and one girl.

Understanding dawned.

A low wave of murmurs spread across the classroom, like ripples in still water.

"They are from Uzushiogakure…"

The whispers were hushed, but not quiet enough to escape notice.

A few pointed subtly toward Shamrock and Uta.

"They both are the son and daughter of the Uzukage, right?"

The murmuring grew, curiosity and calculation mixing together.

Some gazes sharpened, others filled with intrigue.

Uzushiogakure… so they came too.

At that very moment, as the weight of those scrutinizing stares lingered—

A voice suddenly cut through the classroom from the far corner.

"Hey, Shamrock! Uta! You both also came here?"

The tone was loud, familiar, and completely unrestrained.

In an instant, the attention of the room shifted.

All eyes turned toward the source—

Naruto.

And Naruto himself was no ordinary participant. Being the son of the current Hokage, he was already a well-known figure among the examinees. His presence alone carried weight.

This Chunin Exam had gathered something unusual.

The son and daughter of the Uzukage.

The son of the Hokage.

And the three children of the Kazekage—two sons and one daughter.

The stakes had risen far beyond normal.

The classroom, already tense, now carried an undercurrent of excitement.

For many of the participants, a thought quietly took root—

If we defeat one of them…

It would be more than just victory.

It would be recognition.

A name.

A story worth boasting about.

Defeating the child of a Kage… that was something no one would forget.

Amidst all of this, Shamrock and Uta remained calm.

Even under the weight of countless gazes, their expressions did not waver.

They turned toward Naruto.

A faint smile appeared on both their faces.

"Naruto," Shamrock said, his voice steady.

"It is nice seeing you again."
