I knew from the very beginning that fighting against Reina and my own mother would be nearly impossible. I only have Miro at this moment, and his magior is not enough compared to what our enemies have. Reina is under some kind of black magic; that is why she is so powerful. Her magior could match the magior of the necklace.
She is smart. She has been one step ahead of me, and she was able to fool Emerald while she was in the middle of grieving for her daughter. If Emerald got fooled big time, she could've given her the necklace, thinking she was her daughter. That would make her twice as strong.
"We need an alliance," I said to Miro.
It's been two weeks since it's been just the two of us, and we still haven't come up with anything. Obviously, because he knows we are no match. My magior is because of the necklace; without it, I am nothing. Back to being a normal human being.
"But who? They got rid of everyone." He's right. No one has been left in the City. It's just the two of us now, here in my father's hidden old office.
I am scrambling around the place, back and forth, thinking of a way, but not a single idea came into my head. If only I still had the book or the necklace, I could've had at least a little power.
"Are you really Emerald's daughter?" Miro asked.
"Yeah. I explained it to you, didn't I?"
"Well, I just think that if you really are her daughter, she should've felt it. Maybe… just maybe, if you introduce yourself properly, she could feel it," he said.
It sounded ridiculous. Facing her without magior? She could kill me instantly. Technically, she almost did.
"Okay… okay, I know it's ridiculous. You don't need to look at me like that."
"Actually, it's not…" I said.
"Really?" he said, as if he couldn't believe it himself.
Before our conversation could get any further, the place shook violently.
"What the—"
I was stopped mid-word when the Mutchesters floated in front of me.
"Woah, I don't believe in ghosts, but they're real?" Miro said in shock.
"You're able to see them?"
I never thought others could see them. I mean, they always come out at night in secret or whenever I asked them to.
"They're the Mutchesters. They won't hurt you, don't worry," I said.
"Where have you been? Where is my ring? Do you know Emerald has come back?" I asked, questions after questions.
"We're supposed to be free, but Emerald summoned us again to look for you," the one on the right said.
"You could speak now," I scoffed.
"Emerald? Oh—she doesn't know I am her daughter. She believes Reina is her daughter. Can you help me?"
They held out their hands to me.
Without thinking too much, I raised my hand and was about to place it in theirs, but Miro stopped me.
"Hey, don't be reckless. They just said they were summoned by Emerald. She could've been looking for you since she wasn't able to successfully kill you the last time. You have to think this through," he said worriedly.
"I appreciate you, Miro, but I trust them. Besides, if they are indeed going to bring me to my mother, then I could face her and tell her I am her daughter."
There was a hint of doubt in him, but he had no choice but to let me go.
"You come with us too," the one on the left said, looking at Miro.
Before Miro could even speak, they had already taken his hand.
The Mutchester in the middle was holding me and teleported along with us.
I opened my eyes to see that I was back in the cave.
"Mutchesters, where is Miro? I thought you were bringing us together?"
They did not answer my question. Instead, they vanished like ash.
"What the fuck is with them? They appear out of nowhere and vanish like a bubble," I said frustratedly.
"Hello! Somebody here?" I shouted. My voice echoed, only proving there was nothing here.
"Emerald? Reina? For goodness' sake, what's the point of bringing me here if you're not going to face me?"
I sat down. I am too tired, too drained. The plot twist I asked for was for me to get out of the university and be in my dream university. Not this! My life is already fucked up, and yet this happened. If only I had known, then I should've never engaged with this anymore.
"Amirah."
A voice spoke, making me look around.
I looked around, trying to find where the voice came from, and then, in the darkest part of the cave, someone came out.
"Amirah."
This time, I was able to face who it was.
It's my mother—Emerald.
I was too stunned. What should I do? Smile? Wave? And is she talking to me when saying that word? Is she aware that I am me and not Reina, whom she thought was her real daughter?
Confusion got through me.
"You're my daughter!"
She ran towards me and hugged me tightly.
"I'm sorry. Sorry if Mommy had hurt you. I'm sorry. I love you so, so much, my Amirah."
I was so shocked that I froze on the spot, not knowing what to do or how to react at all.
