East Africa's Minister of Railways, Wells, reported the relevant situation: "By 1918, the total completed and operational railway mileage nationwide had reached more than 302,700 kilometers, ranking second in the world."
"From the 1990s of the last century to the first two decades of this century, these years marked the explosion period for our railway growth. Most of the national railways were constructed during this phase."
