Brandon's POV (First Person, Past Tense)
I found myself wandering around Ashley's sitting room while she disappeared somewhere down the hallway.
My hands shoved into my pockets, not really sure what I was doing or what exactly I was looking for. Perhaps it was a distraction, silence, or just something that didn't remind me of home.
The house felt... different.
Comfortable. Cozy and warm.
It was nothing like mine.
The Ross house was huge. It had always screamed money. The tall ceilings, glass doors, expensive furniture, polished floors that reflected your face back at you, and giant windows. The carefully chosen decorations included paintings that looked like artifacts belonging in a museum.
Everything in our house looked perfect. Almost too perfect.
Ashley's house wasn't like that at all. It was smaller but held a lot of meaning. Like they had nothing to prove.
There was a difference.
