Chapter 598: Arrival
~Third POV~
[Unova Region, Later, Nuvema Town – Juniper's Lab]
The crisp morning air of Unova carried the faint scent of wild grass and blooming flowers, a symphony of chirps and rustles, as Azure soared through the sky expanse atop his majestic Braviary. The sun, a molten gold coin, had climbed high enough to banish the last vestiges of dew, painting the landscape in vibrant hues.
Below, Nuvema Town stretched out, a picturesque collection of homes and a prominent, dome-roofed building that could only be Professor Juniper's Lab. Azure murmured, patting the powerful bird's feathered neck, "Alright, Braviary, looks like we're here. Thanks for the ride. You earned a good rest."
Braviary responded with a powerful cry, a burst of energy that ruffled Azure's hair, "HRAAA! (Okay boss!)"
*FWP-THUMP*
The Pokémon descended gracefully, landing softly on the outskirts of the town. Azure dismounted, his worn backpack settling comfortably on his shoulders, Pikachu perched there and Eevee nestling on his head, ears twitching at the new surroundings. A soft, almost imperceptible mew emanated from within his jacket, Pichu (Mew), occasionally peeking out with curious, bright eyes.
Azure said, holding out a sleek, modern Poké Ball, "Return, Braviary."
With a flash of crimson light, the magnificent bird was safely tucked away, ready for a well-deserved nap. Stretching his limbs, he said in an excited tone, "Time to stretch our legs, everyone."
Pikachu chirped affirmatively, rubbing its cheek against Azure's ear, "Pika-Pika!"
Eevee bounced lightly, already eager to explore, "Eevee!"
Azure took a moment, stretching his arms above his head, feeling the pleasant ache of travel. Unova. It felt different from the other regions he'd traversed, a vibrant energy thrumming beneath the surface, a promise of new challenges and discoveries. He took his time strolling through Nuvema, letting the sights and sounds wash over him.
The architecture was distinct, modern yet charming, with wide streets and bustling townsfolk. Children chased after Patrat, their laughter echoing. The aroma of freshly baked goods mingled with the salty tang of the nearby ocean. Azure smiled, absorbing it all. He wasn't just a trainer here; he was an explorer, a participant in life's grand adventure.
Azure mused aloud, "This region certainly has its own charm."
A faint, almost ethereal chuckle resonated from his shadow. It was Gengar, her typically mischievous voice a low purr, a shimmering purple ripple briefly distorting the shadow, "Indeed. Though I suspect a certain Professor's lab might offer a bit more… excitement than these quaint streets."
A robotic voice chimed in from the Arc Phone clutched in Azure's hand, its screen glowing with a frantic red alert icon, "Rotom, Rotom! Scans indicate high levels of... domestic disturbance at the target location!"
Azure simply chuckled, answering, "Lead the way, Rotom."
Following the Arc Phone's directions, Azure soon found himself standing before Professor Juniper's Lab. He paused, his smile fading into a raised eyebrow. The entrance, though appearing superficially clean, bore unmistakable signs of recent turmoil.
A potted plant lay on its side, though its soil had been hastily swept up. Faint scorch marks marred the porch, indistinct yet distinct upon closer inspection, and what looked like claw gouges scraped across the entryway.
The air still held a faint, lingering scent of battle and singed fur. Azure thought, his gaze sweeping over the scene, 'Definitely a battle. And not a very tidy one, by the looks of it. Must be rookies.'
He pushed open the heavy front door, a subtle creak accompanying his entry. The scene inside immediately confirmed his suspicions.
*CRASH*
A porcelain vase shattered against a wall, narrowly missing a young man with glasses who stood defensively, his green-and-white Snivy poised for action, its elegant tail swishing. Facing him was an equally young woman, her blonde hair disheveled, her Oshawott glaring furiously, its small scalchop clutched in its paw.
The living room, far from being a serene scientific sanctuary, was a warzone. Bookshelves were askew, papers scattered like autumn leaves, and a sofa was overturned, its cushions askew.
The boy, Cheren, commanded, his voice tight with concentration, his glasses reflecting the chaotic scene, "Snivy, use Tackle!"
Snivy, with a burst of emerald energy, shot forward, a blur of green aimed directly at the Sea Otter Pokémon, "SNAAAAP!"
Bianca, the girl, shrieked, throwing her hands up in exasperation, "Oshawott, dodge!"
But it was too late.
*FWUMP*
Snivy's head connected squarely with Oshawott's round, shell-like belly. The Sea Otter Pokémon let out an indignant squawk, its momentum carrying it straight through the air. Oshawott didn't just land; it flew headfirst into Bianca's face, its blunt nose smacking against her cheek
*WHOOF*
Bianca staggered back, both hands flying to her face. A moment of stunned silence, then: A high-pitched wail erupted from her, echoing off the lab walls, "OWWWWWW!"
Her face crumpled, tears welling in her eyes, smudges of dirt now adorning her tear-streaked cheeks. She blubbered, her voice thick with childish indignation, stomping her foot, "You… you meanie, Cheren! I'll never forgive you for that!"
Cheren, despite the chaos, looked genuinely concerned, pushing his glasses up his nose. He said carefully, "Bianca, are you okay?"
But Bianca was beyond reason. She launched herself at Cheren, a flailing mess of limbs, punching his arms and chest with surprisingly strong thumps, "WAAAH! Take that! And that! You absolute lout!"
*Thump-Thump-Thump*
While Bianca vented her fury on Cheren, Oshawott, now recovered from its aerial assault and quite displeased, decided to exact its own revenge. It charged Snivy, brandishing its seashell scalchop like a tiny, furious blade, its eyes narrowed in a surprisingly fierce expression, "OSHA! OSHA! (I shall have my revenge!)."
*CLANG*
Snivy, never one to back down, hissed, its tail flicking defensively, and met the incoming attack. The sounds of their renewed skirmish joined Bianca's ongoing assault on Cheren. Azure watched, a faint smile playing on his lips, Pikachu and Eevee observing with wide-eyed fascination.
He mused to himself mentally, watching the scene, 'This is certainly a lively start to Unova. A little less 'grand battles for the fate of the world' and a lot more 'sibling squabble,' but entertaining nonetheless.'
Suddenly, a booming voice cut through the cacophony, shaking the very foundations of the lab, "ENOUGH! ALL OF YOU!"
Professor Juniper, a woman with keen eyes and a commanding presence, strode into the living room, her arms crossed, a thundercloud forming on her brow, her usually neat hair slightly disheveled by the chaotic energy.
She gestured wildly at the overturned furniture, scattered debris, and the faint scorch marks on the carpet, "What in the world do you think you're doing?! Battling in my living room?! And making this mess, again?!"
Bianca, though still teary-eyed and hitting Cheren, paused, her arm mid-swing. Her eyes, however, brightened as she looked from Oshawott to Snivy, then back. She sniffled, rubbing her nose with her forearm, "But Professor Juniper… Pokémon are so strong! Did you see how Oshawott flew? And Snivy was so fast!"
Cheren, taking advantage of Bianca's distraction, managed to extract himself, adjusting his glasses. He bowed his head sheepishly, apologizing, "I'm terribly sorry, Professor. It's just… Bianca couldn't wait for the Pokédexes to be fixed."
Juniper pinched the bridge of her nose, a long-suffering sigh escaping her lips. She gestured to a corner of her lab where two sleek devices lay on a workbench, surrounded by an array of specialized tools, wires dangling, stating, "Yes, well, they're still not fixed, Cheren. They're taking longer than anticipated to repair."
Bianca's face fell, then immediately brightened with a new idea, chirped, "Oh! Well, then, Cheren, another battle? I bet Oshawott can win this time!"
*MENACING*
Cheren, however, felt a menacing presence and saw the dark glare emanating from Professor Juniper, a silent warning far more potent than any words. With a swift, practiced motion, he clapped a hand over Bianca's mouth, muffling her enthusiastic suggestion into an indignant "Mmmph!"
He knew when to retreat. He asked, attempting to deflect the Professor's ire, "Professor Juniper, did you manage to get in contact with Black?"
Juniper sighed again, running a hand through her hair, answering Cheren's question, "Unfortunately, no. He doesn't even have a cell phone, apparently. Do you have any idea where he might be?"
Cheren pondered, a serious expression on his face, tapping his chin thoughtfully, muttering, "Knowing Black, he's probably either buried in Tepig research somewhere, completely obsessed, or announcing his dream to some poor soul who absolutely doesn't want to listen. He's not exactly subtle."
It was at this precise moment, a lull in the chaos, that Azure finally decided to announce his presence properly to those present. He stepped fully into the doorway, a polite, apologetic smile on his face, his gaze sweeping over the trio with a blend of amusement and understanding.
*Tmp*
He said calmly, his voice calm and even, cutting through the lingering tension with surprising effectiveness, "Excuse me… I apologize if I interrupted your conversation. Have I perhaps come at the wrong time?"
Cheren and Bianca blinked, their squabble momentarily forgotten as they stared at the newcomer, their eyes still wide from the recent excitement. Their minds, still reeling from the battle and the Professor's scolding, struggled to place him.
But Professor Juniper's eyes widened in immediate recognition, a genuine smile replacing her earlier frown. She exclaimed, her demeanor instantly shifting from exasperated to warmly apologetic, "Azure! My goodness, no, not at all, though I apologize for the absolute chaos you've walked into!"
She smoothed her hair, trying to regain a semblance of professionalism. She extended a hand, which Azure politely shook, his grip firm, explaining herself, "Professor Oak informed me yesterday that you'd be arriving from your previous journey. It's a pleasure to finally meet you in person!"
Azure replied, his smile easy, "It's a pleasure to meet you too, Professor Juniper."
He then turned to the two bewildered rookies, greeting them, "I'm Azure Sky. It's an honor to finally visit the Unova region."
Cheren and Bianca's minds seemed to click simultaneously: 'Azure Sky. The name echoed through the Pokémon world, a legend whispered among trainers. Four League wins. Grand Meteor Delta. The Hoenn and Sinnoh Battle Frontier…'
Their eyes grew wide, their jaws dropping slightly in unison. Bianca gasped, her tears miraculously gone, replaced by pure astonishment, "You're the Azure Sky?! Like the one in the news months back?!!"
Cheren stammered, adjusting his glasses again, a blush creeping up his neck as he finally recognized the renowned trainer while he nudged Bianca gently, "A-Azure Sky… It's an honor. I'm Cheren, and this is Bianca."
Azure said, returning their greetings with a nod, "A pleasure, both of you…"
He then glanced around the disheveled lab once more, a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his lips, asking, "If you don't mind my asking, what exactly caused the… rather enthusiastic welcoming committee at the entrance? There were signs of quite a tussle."
The trio collectively sighed, a synchronized exhalation of exasperation, the shared experience momentarily bonding them. Bianca mumbled, crossing her arms, "It was Black, a childhood friend of ours..."
Cheren added, explaining the incident with a hint of academic precision while adjusting his glasses, "He just opened the box, the one with the three Starter Pokémon for Unova. He was incredibly… eager."
Juniper finished, rubbing her temples, "And then he chose Tepig, and bolted off with the only working Pokédex. The other two…"
She gestured again to the devices on her workbench in an annoyed tone, "...require repairs. They were… quite damaged in the scuffle, caught in the crossfire as Black impatiently grabbed his choice."
Azure nodded, a knowing look in his eyes. He'd heard similar stories of overzealous new trainers. He thought, 'Figures. Professor Oak certainly has a knack for finding these spirited individuals.'
He was internally relieved, however, that Professor Oak hadn't asked Juniper to create any spare Pokédexes for him. He'd politely refused such offers from Oak in the past, finding his own Arc Phone and Rotom more than sufficient, not to mention his extensive personal database of Pokémon information.
Courteously accepting a new Pokédex in every region would just be… unnecessary.
Azure said calmly, turning his gaze back to Cheren and Bianca, who still seemed a little star-struck, "I see. So, you two are waiting for your Pokédexes to be fixed, then? And Bianca, you seemed quite eager for another battle."
Bianca's eyes lit up again, her previous woes forgotten. She looked hopefully at Azure, asking, "I am! But Professor Juniper said no inside!"
Azure chuckled as he made an offer, "Well, if you're both waiting, and Bianca wants a battle, I wouldn't mind taking you both on, as long as the Professor allows it. I'm training a new team for Unova's League Tournament, and it would be good experience for them – and for you two, of course."
From his shadow, a faint ripple indicated Darkrai's amusement, while Marshadow merely observed silently. Cheren and Bianca exchanged nervous glances as they thought, 'Battling the Azure Sky?'
It was an intimidating prospect, their hearts beginning to pound with a mixture of fear and exhilaration. Cheren said, a hint of trepidation in his voice, his hand hovering over his own Poké Ball, "But… you're an Ace Trainer… We're just starting."
Azure agreed, a reassuring smile on his face, "Indeed. But, as I said, I'm training a new team. My Tepig and Drilbur are still quite young and inexperienced. It would be an equal match, I assure you. And I'd be happy to provide some advice during the battle, from a 'pro' like myself, if you will."
Professor Juniper, sensing a valuable learning opportunity for her new trainers, cleared her throat and said, "That sounds like an excellent idea, Azure. But it absolutely, positively must be outside. My lab has seen enough excitement for one morning. I don't want any more furniture sacrificed."
Azure said calmly, "Agreed."
Cheren and Bianca quickly nodded their assent, their nervousness slowly giving way to excitement mixed with anticipation. This was an opportunity they couldn't pass up to get tips from a Pro Champion Level Trainer.
The group moved outside to a spacious, grassy clearing behind the lab, bathed in the warm morning sun. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves of nearby trees. Cheren and Bianca, buoyed by Azure's calm assurance, began to calm their racing hearts, though a palpable tremor of excitement still ran through them. This was a chance to learn, to grow, and to test their mettle against a legend, even if his team was young.
Azure said coolly, taking a position opposite them, his posture relaxed but ready, "Alright, Cheren, Bianca. Whenever you're ready."
Cheren declared, sending out his grass snake Pokémon, "Alright, Snivy!"
*POP*
Snivy coiled, its gaze sharp and focused, its emerald scales gleaming.
Bianca cheered, "Oshawott, let's do our best!"
*POP*
Her Oshawott splashed onto the grass, its scalchop ready, its eyes burning with determination. Azure nodded, reaching for two of his Poké Balls.
He grinned, declaring, "Alright, everyone. Tepig, Drilbur, it's showtime!"
*POP*
With two bright flashes of light, an energetic little pig Pokémon with a fiery snout and large, inquisitive eyes, and a small, bipedal mole Pokémon with shiny, drill-like claws and a perpetually determined expression appeared.
Tepig squealed, pawing at the ground, a wisp of smoke curling from its nose, eager for battle, "TEPIG! (I'M READY!!)."
Drilbur chirped, its drills spinning lightly, already sensing the soft earth beneath its feet and anticipating action, "DRILL-BURRR! (Time to dig, gents!)."
Bianca gasped, pointing, "Oh, a Tepig! Just like Black's!"
Cheren, ever the pragmatist, had a thoughtful expression. He pulled out a small notebook and pen, ready to jot down observations, his eyes already analyzing Azure's Pokémon, muttering, "And a Drilbur. A Ground-type. Interesting. Its abilities could be Sand Force or Sand Rush."
Azure communicated internally, his thoughts clear even without speaking, projected directly into his Pokémon's minds via telepathy, 'Alright, Tepig, Drilbur, this is your chance to show what you've learned. Cheren's Snivy is fast and precise; Bianca's Oshawott is surprisingly tough. Focus on teamwork, and remember the basics.'
Tepig responded with an enthusiastic snort, exhaling a tiny puff of smoke, eager to prove itself to its trainer, "Te-pig!"
Drilbur bobbed his head with an eager grin and chirped, "Drilll!"
Cheren and Bianca, however, were not privy to these mental conversations. They just saw Azure nod to his Pokémon, a small, knowing smile on his face.
Cheren commanded, seeking an early advantage, his voice ringing with newfound confidence, "Snivy, start with Leaf Tornado!"
Bianca added, determined to prove herself, "Oshawott, follow up with Water Gun!"
*Whooosh*
Snivy whipped its tail, generating a swirling vortex of sharp leaves that tore across the field towards Tepig, a verdant blur. Oshawott, meanwhile, aimed a concentrated stream of water at Drilbur.
Azure ordered calmly, his voice steady, "Tepig, use Defense Curl, then Smokescreen! Drilbur, Protect!"
Tepig tucked itself into a tight ball, its skin hardening as the Leaf Tornado struck, the leaves deflecting off its improved defense with much less impact.
*CLANG-CLANG-CLANG*
As soon as the brutal attack subsided, Tepig let out a puff of thick, black smoke, creating a hazy screen around itself, obscuring it from view.
*WHOOSH*
Drilbur shimmered, a translucent barrier briefly forming around it, causing Oshawott's Water Gun to dissipate harmlessly against it in a fine mist.
*SPLAT*
Bianca exclaimed, genuinely impressed, momentarily forgetting the battle, "Woah! That Protect was fast!"
Cheren noted, scribbling furiously in his notebook, his analytical mind already at work, "And Smokescreen will lower accuracy. But it also obscures our view."
Bianca instructed, hoping to gain visibility, "Oshawott, try to clear the smoke with a Razor Shell!"
Cheren countered, directing Snivy to probe the smoky area, "Snivy, use Vine Whip to try and pinpoint Tepig!"
Oshawott sliced at the smoke with its sharp scalchop, creating momentary clearings in the thick haze, while Snivy extended its vines, lashing out into the obscurity. Azure said, his voice quiet but firm, "This is your chance, Drilbur. Use Dig on Snivy!"
Drilbur cried out, "DRILL-BURRR!"
*WHIRRR-THUD*
Drilbur's drills spun furiously, a blur of motion, and it plunged into the soft earth, vanishing from sight, leaving only a rapidly expanding hole. Cheren's eyes widened as he shouted, "Snivy, jump!"
*KABOOM*
But it was too late. Before Snivy could react, the ground directly beneath its feet erupted with surprising force. Drilbur burst forth, slamming into Snivy's underside with a powerful upward thrust.
Snivy cried out, skidding across the grass, momentarily stunned, "SNIVYYY!"
Cheren called out, concern etched on his face, his focus momentarily shifting from strategy to his Pokémon's well-being, "Snivy, you okay?!"
Azure's voice was sharp, cutting through the smoke and the lingering dust from Drilbur's attack, "Now, Tepig, Ember on Oshawott!"
*WHOOSH-FWOOSH*
From within the lingering Smokescreen, a precise stream of fire burst forth, arcing gracefully towards Oshawott, a miniature comet of flame, "TEPIG!"
Bianca yelled, reacting instinctively, "Oshawott, Water Gun to douse it!"
*HISSSSSS*
Oshawott bravely fired back, a jet of water colliding with the Ember, creating a cloud of steam that further obscured the field. Azure called out, his voice calm, but projecting clearly, "Cheren, Bianca, good attempts at recovery. Cheren, your immediate concern for Snivy shows a strong bond, but in battle, every second counts for a counter. Bianca, using Water Gun to douse Ember is a solid defensive move, but Oshawott could have also dodged instead and counter-attacked, conserving its energy for a stronger offence while gaining momentum."
Cheren and Bianca stared at him, absorbing the advice. Cheren nodded slowly, making another note in his book, a thoughtful expression on his face. Bianca's eyes widened, considering the alternative strategy.
Azure continued, pressing his advantage, "Drilbur, now that Snivy is disoriented, use Mud-Slap on Oshawott! Tepig, Rollout!"
*SPLOSH*
Drilbur, still above ground and swift, quickly scooped up a glob of mud with a drill and flung it with surprising force at Oshawott's face. Oshawott cried out, momentarily blinded by the sticky mud, shaking its head furiously, "OSHA-WOW!"
*THUMP-THUMP-THUMP-THUMP*
Tepig, meanwhile, had begun to glow. It curled into a tight ball, igniting its snout with embers, and began to roll, picking up speed, a fiery pinball aiming for the now-disoriented Oshawott. The momentum grew with each bounce, its fiery aura intensifying.
Bianca shouted, hoping to interrupt the attack, her voice tinged with panic, "Oshawott, quick, use Tackle!"
Cheren yelled, trying to support Bianca and provide cover fire, "Snivy, use Leaf Tornado once more!"
*CRUNCH*
Oshawott, still partially blinded, tried to charge, but the Mud-Slap had hampered its accuracy and vision. Tepig's Rollout, now a blazing cannonball, slammed into Oshawott with a resounding CRUNCH! The impact sent Oshawott spinning before it collapsed to the grass, small swirls dancing in its eyes.
Professor Juniper announced from the sidelines, having taken on the role of impartial referee, her hands behind her back, "Oshawott is unable to battle!"
Cheren pressed, his voice strained with determination, not yet willing to concede, "Snivy, try to hit Tepig with Leaf Tornado!"
Snivy, despite its earlier hit, mustered its energy, summoning a powerful vortex of razor-sharp leaves that spiraled towards Tepig, a final desperate effort. Azure commanded, his voice unwavering, "Tepig, use Flame Charge to speed past it! Drilbur, Sandstorm!"
*WHOOSH*
Tepig, having just connected with Rollout, ignited its body with fire, turning into a blazing projectile. It zipped past the Leaf Tornado, the flames protecting it from the worst of the leaves, gaining significant speed as it went.
*FSSSHHHH-WHOOSH*
At the same time, Drilbur spun rapidly, kicking up a furious gale of sand that enveloped Snivy. The sand lashed at Snivy, stinging its eyes and completely obscuring its vision, reducing visibility to almost zero.
Cheren urged, trying to see through the swirling sand, but his voice sounded muffled by the wind, "Snivy, focus! Use Tackle!"
Snivy, blinded and disoriented, charged blindly, its movements sluggish. But Drilbur was already moving, anticipating the attack.
Azure ordered, "Drilbur, Hone Claws, then Metal Claw!"
*SLAASH*
Drilbur's claws glowed with a sharp, metallic sheen, sharpening in the sandstorm, then it lunged, its enhanced claws catching Snivy squarely in the side.
Snivy let out a pained cry, staggering and reeling from the hit, "SNI-VY!"
Azure's concluding command was firm, leaving no room for doubt, "Now, Tepig, Flame Wheel on Snivy!"
*KABLAM*
Tepig, having circumnavigated the field with its boosted speed, was a ball of blazing fire, its momentum and power undeniable. It smashed into the already-weakened Snivy with full force. Snivy cried out one last time, a fading gasp, before collapsing onto the ground, fully fainted.
Juniper declared, stepping forward and ending the battle, "Snivy is unable to battle! The victory goes to Azure!"
Tepig cheered, proud of its efforts, stomping its hoofs playfully, "TEPIG!"
Drilbur let out a victorious cry and playfully dug a small hole in the ground to celebrate. It then resurfaced, shaking off the loose dirt, "DRIL-BURR!"
Cheren and Bianca both rushed to their fainted Pokémon, recalling them to their Poké Balls with soft apologies, their faces a mixture of disappointment and admiration. They looked a little deflated, but also awe-struck by the display of skill.
Azure said calmly, walking over to them, his own Pokémon returning to his side, Tepig playfully headbutting his leg and Drilbur settling near his feet, watching with bright eyes, "Well done, both of you. Snivy showed excellent speed and technique, Cheren, and Oshawott was surprisingly resilient, Bianca. Your teamwork, despite the initial… enthusiasm…"
He winked playfully, "Was impressive. You both have a lot of potential."
Cheren, still holding his notebook, looked up, a glimmer of excitement in his eyes as he replied politely, "Your advice… that was incredibly insightful. Thank you!"
Bianca, though still a bit pouty about losing, exclaimed, "Yeah! And your Tepig was so cool! It just rolled and rolled!"
Cheren added an analytical spark in his gaze, "And your Drilbur was so quick digging!"
Gengar's voice purred from Azure's shadow, a faint, mischievous outline of her form briefly appearing and dissipating, her glowing red eyes winking in the gloom, "Oh, let's have some fun, Rotom. Their faces are priceless."
Cheren and Bianca froze. Their eyes widened, their mouths slightly agape as they stared at Azure's Pokémon, then at each other, then back at the Pokémon.
Bianca whispered, her voice barely audible, wide-eyed in disbelief, "Did… did your Pokémon just… talk?"
Cheren adjusted his glasses, completely dumbfounded, a flicker of scientific curiosity fighting with sheer astonishment, and stammered, "I… I thought I misheard. But the voice… it sounded like a Pokémon…"
Azure chuckled, Rotom hovering beside his ear, its screen glowing with amused pixels. Said, "Rotom, Rotom! They are surprised! Query: Should we reveal more?"
Cheren and Bianca recoiled slightly, their eyes darting from Rotom to the faint shadow of Gengar, then to Azure, then to Rotom, baffled that they could talk. Azure explained, a knowing smile on his face, enjoying their bewildered expressions, "Some of my Pokémon have… unique ways of communicating. You'll encounter all sorts of fascinating things on your journey here in Unova. But for now, perhaps we should check on Professor Juniper and those Pokédexes?"
The two young trainers, still reeling from the revelation of talking Pokémon, could only nod mutely, their minds struggling to process the impossible. The world suddenly seemed far more magical and unpredictable than they had ever imagined.
Back inside the lab, Professor Juniper greeted them warmly, "Azure, your team performed wonderfully! Excellent display of strategy and control. Cheren, Bianca, you both showed great effort. A valuable learning experience for everyone."
She then turned to her workbench, her expression dimming slightly. She sighed, picking up one of the devices, its metallic casing still slightly scorched, stating, "As for the Pokédexes… Still no luck. They're proving more stubborn to repair than I thought. It'll be a little while longer."
Cheren's brows furrowed, concern etched on his face muttered, "But Professor, we can't wait too long. Black's already off. If we stay here, we'll fall too far behind. He'll probably have a Gym Badge before we even leave town."
Juniper nodded in understanding and said calmly, "You're right. Cheren, Bianca, I think it's best if you go and find Black. Tell him his Pokédex is the only working one and to take very good care of it. He'll need it to properly record his findings. And tell him to keep an eye out for any interesting Pokémon, not just his Tepig research."
Cheren said resolutely, a renewed sense of purpose in his voice, his notebook already tucked away, "Right!"
Bianca cheered, her earlier disappointment completely forgotten, excitement bubbling up once more, "Okay! Let's go find Black!"
As they turned to leave, Cheren mused aloud, "By now, Black must already be visiting a Gym, knowing him. He's always so impatient."
Just as they reached the front door, a booming, authoritative voice echoed from outside, making the windows rattle slightly, "BIANCA! Are you in there?!"
Bianca froze, her eyes widening in alarm, her cheerful expression instantly replaced with dread uttered, "Oh no… It's Dad!"
Azure, sensing the distinct shift in atmosphere and the impending family drama that was about to unfold, subtly began to back away towards the other exit of the lab, a more discreet side door. He'd dealt with enough parental interventions in his time; this was one 'side quest' he had no intention of undertaking.
Bianca shrieked, her voice laden with protest, her hands flying to her head in exasperation as her father, a stern-faced man with a powerful build and an unyielding jaw, entered the lab, hands on his hips, his gaze sweeping over the chaotic room before landing squarely on his daughter, "This isn't fair!"
Professor Juniper sighed, a long, exasperated sound, shaking her head. She muttered to herself, casting a glance at the departing Azure, who was now halfway out the side door, "Honestly, one boy is already starting his journey, and this poor girl isn't even ready yet, along with the other boy…"
Bianca's father, meanwhile, stood firm, his gaze fixed on his daughter, his voice unwavering, sternly saying, "Bianca, I told you, the world is a very dangerous place! There are wild Pokémon, treacherous landscapes, and all sorts of unsavory characters! I'm taking you home. You're not going on a Pokémon journey!"
Bianca's face crumpled, tears welling up again, but this time they were tears of genuine frustration and sadness, her voice catching in her throat, "But Dad, please! It's my dream! Everyone else is going!"
Azure, having made good his quiet escape, paused just outside the side entrance, listening to Bianca's plaintive wails and her father's firm reproaches. He sighed softly, shaking his head as he thought, 'Some battles are harder to win than others. And family battles… those are often the toughest.'
He looked up at the vast Unovan sky, a new journey stretching before him, full of challenges and triumphs, but thankfully, free of parental objections. His adventure, for now, had truly begun.
