"About tonight's infiltration plan—Lin Mo, are you absolutely certain? I know edgerunners often butt heads with corps, but this time you're up against Arasaka, the most powerful player in this city. As your fixer, I want you to take that seriously."
Regina's voice rolled out of the comms, clear and steady, filling the private room.
Everyone could hear the weight in her tone—a warning not to do anything reckless.
"Oh, come on… why all the hand-wringing? We're here to work, not overthink," Rebecca muttered under her breath. She'd never been the type to swallow her words, even with the fixer on the line.
Hearing her, Dorio leaned in, smiling as she whispered back, "Don't knock it. We haven't worked with this fixer before, but one who actually worries about her crews and urges caution? In Night City, that's rare."
The aside was just a ripple; the room stayed largely quiet. Everyone knew there was only one person who should answer: Lin Mo.
"Ms. Regina, isn't it a little late for that? If we weren't confident, we wouldn't be here," Lin Mo said with an easy smile.
"Confidence is good. Confidence without preparation is rash," Regina replied evenly. "I've got some fresh intel. Hear me out, then decide. Based on what we have, Arasaka Waterfront's defenses—beyond the wall everyone can see—include motion sensors on the perimeter, automated turrets—"
Lin Mo cut in, still smiling. "Motion sensors, turrets, plus spotters perched in high towers with sniper rifles. Beyond regular security, there's an Arasaka 'Bird' response team; two combat mechs openly patrolling, twelve Wyvern drones… I won't speculate about what's hidden, but that's the visible force. Am I close, Ms. Regina?"
As he laid out the defenses in calm detail, a few heads turned his way in surprise.
Normally, grunts in the field relied on street chatter and whatever a fixer passed along. You didn't see the trigger man preempt the briefing.
There was a pause on the line. Regina hadn't expected to be scooped.
He's got his own intel network?
"Looks like you did your homework," she said at last.
But a pro stays a pro. She regrouped quickly and continued, "Then I won't waste breath on basics. As for the internal layout of the main lab complex—I couldn't secure a full 3D scan, but through the original architects and some workers, I've sketched the major zones. I'm sending it now."
A file pinged on Lin Mo's end.
He opened it: a rough hand-drawn map. Not pretty, but enough to keep you oriented and out of dead ends—impressive, given how closely Arasaka guards such data.
"Funny. I've got a sketch too. Sending it over—see if I missed anything."
Lin Mo's mouth quirked as he pushed his own map—the one he'd drafted from his "sim" runs.
Regina blinked. She hadn't expected that. She opened the attachment to find another hand-drawn plan. The draftsmanship was… feral—but clear.
What stunned her wasn't the art; it was the content. After a minute's study, she realized his sketch was more useful than hers.
If her map outlined the general areas, his felt like it came from someone who'd actually been inside—down to a workable route through the building.
Rough, but practical.
How does he know all this? she wondered, genuinely baffled.
Lin Mo prompted gently, "Ms. Regina, if there's nothing else, it's time we moved."
He wanted to minimize bar time, waiting time, and meeting time—to be in position before the other crew hit the waterfront.
"…Maybe you'd make a better fixer than I do. I underestimated you," Regina said at last. "Your prep is solid. I'll skip the lecture and dump everything I've got. I hope you come back in one piece."
She didn't press for his plan; that wasn't how the dance worked. Fixers brought jobs, intel, and gear. Tactics were the crew's domain. Only after a job would a fixer hear a sanitized version—another layer of protection for free agents.
"Then let's not waste the window," Lin Mo said, rising. "We're moving out."
"Good luck," Regina replied.
