Chapter 153 - Chapter 152: A Rat's Come In

"Rich people really do have the most twisted fetishes. From the outside, he looks like a stiff and serious middle-aged man, but who would've thought he was into such disgusting, filthy crap behind closed doors… Scum like him deserves to burn in hell!"

Sasha's voice suddenly crackled through the comms, thick with disgust and barely contained rage.

It was the first time she'd ever shown this kind of emotion in front of Kitagawa Hiroshi and David. The usual softness in her tone was gone, replaced by unfiltered loathing.

"You saw what's going on in there through the camera feed? Can you tell me?"

On the second floor, in the study, Kitagawa Hiroshi leaned against the wall, his expression ice-cold, eyes narrowed. His auditory enhancer was cranked up to max, translating every sound wave from the floor below directly into neural impulses.

He could hear everything—every word exchanged between the blonde woman and Goodwin. Her quiet sobs, his smug, condescending tone.

He couldn't see what was happening in the room below, but just listening to their conversation, he could already picture a gruesome scene unfolding in his mind.

Without hesitation, he pulled the pistol from the holster at his side, running his fingers slowly along its frame. At his feet was a backpack—one he'd found while sweeping the house, now repurposed to carry loot.

Kitagawa had assumed he was the only one aware of what was happening downstairs. He hadn't expected Sasha's voice to suddenly cut through the comms with a sharp comment.

So the hacker chick had seen it too.

"Yeah, I saw a bit of it," Sasha sighed. "Looks like the target wanted to record the entire process, so he activated one of the room's surveillance feeds. I caught it by chance… It brought up some bad memories…"

"These sick fucks just never run out, do they?"

"Why would he even dare do something like this?" Kitagawa frowned, deeply puzzled. "He's a company director, and she's his secretary. No matter how cutthroat the competition is, a corporation wouldn't just allow something like this to go public. If this gets exposed, even a director would be finished."

"I don't know…" Sasha replied quietly, clearly also mulling it over. "I only have visual access through the camera feed. I can't hear their conversation."

While the two were talking, David's voice suddenly popped into the channel.

"What's going on over there?"

"None of your business. Stay put in the suite," Kitagawa snapped.

"Oh… okay."

David's signal went quiet immediately, clearly muted.

After a while, Sasha asked:

"So, Mr. Kitagawa… what are you going to do? I hate this guy as much as you do, but we don't really need to get involved, do we? You've already looted what you came for."

"I don't know," Kitagawa sighed, taking out a small metallic explosive—an adhesive blast charge.

His expression was twisted in frustration. He couldn't decide.

Sasha spoke coolly, "I'm guessing you're thinking about just putting a bullet through the bastard's skull and calling it a day. But as your net support, I'm telling you—don't. Guys like him, corporate execs, definitely have Platinum Trauma Team coverage."

"Even if you do kill him instantly, unless you confirm the death 100% with your own eyes, Trauma Team will still deploy… and having a body drop here is going to cause all sorts of complications."

Kitagawa shook his head. "That's not the issue... What I'm thinking is—what would Lin-kun do if he were in my shoes?"

"If it were Lin Mo? He'd walk right in without saying a word and cut the bastard down. He'd never let this kind of shit play out in front of him and just walk away."

Sasha's tone lightened at the mention of Lin Mo. Though Kitagawa couldn't see her, he could tell she was probably smiling.

He let out a long breath and stared up at the ceiling, a trace of admiration in his voice.

"Yeah. If it were Lin-kun, he'd just go in and take the guy's head off—then worry about the consequences later… He once told me, when you do good, don't expect karma in return. When you kill, don't dwell in guilt… I've thought a lot about that line. And now, I think I finally understand a bit of it."

"Huh? He told you that?" Sasha's interest was instantly piqued. "Did he say anything else like that? What else have you thought through?"

Kitagawa was caught off guard by the hacker girl's sudden transformation into a curious kitten. For a moment, he had no idea how to respond.

Hey, what's with the sudden mood swing? Why are you so damn interested the second someone mentions Lin-kun?

He was genuinely confused—completely unaware he was probably just as bad.

After a pause, he replied, "Honestly… that's the only line he's ever said to me. But if you want to know what I got from it, I can sum it up in one phrase."

"Follow your heart."

"Now that definitely sounds like something he'd say…" Sasha murmured, as if reminiscing. Then she pressed again:

"So, what are you going to do?"

"I'm going to save her," Kitagawa exhaled deeply.

It wasn't an easy decision for him. His past in the Tyger Claws had nothing to do with kindness or compassion.

But for Lin Mo's sake, he was willing to change—just a little.

He picked up the small adhesive charge. It was originally meant for breaking in. But now, it could be used to stir up some noise.

First floor, the surgical-slash-doll-storage room.

The blonde woman could no longer speak, lying silent on the operating table.

Her once beautiful face and curvaceous body, things she once took pride in, now looked like that of a dead fish. She had cried, she had screamed… but now, her eyes held only despair.

Goodwin was still standing beside the table, slowly and methodically organizing his surgical tools. He held a syringe filled with pale yellow fluid.

He looked down at her, meeting her lifeless eyes, and spoke with a gentlemanly calm that made it all the more horrifying:

"There's no need to worry. Preserving a doll's joyful expression is quite necessary, you know? Just like your sister—look at how happy she is. Unlike you, none of them wear such hopeless looks on their faces."

He flicked the syringe, forcing out the air bubble with a gentle squeeze. "This will help you face the end with a pleasant mood. Your current expression simply doesn't fit the image of a doll."

Her eyes shifted slightly, glancing at him and then at the syringe. She still said nothing.

Goodwin stopped talking and moved in to inject the substance into her arm, smiling all the while.

Everything was going according to plan. Or at least, it was supposed to.

But a sudden explosion shattered the silence. A thunderous boom came from just outside the door, shaking the entire floor.

Startled by the unexpected noise, Goodwin almost stabbed himself with the syringe.

His smile vanished. His expression turned cold.

A rat had snuck into the house.
