"Oh no," Agnes said to herself while running toward Jeanette.
"Jeanette, stop making a scene. This is my gift to Zoey." Agnes grabbed Jeanette's hand immediately.
Hearing that, Jeanette turned to look at Agnes in disbelief. "What did you say, Mom? You gave this to her?"
Agnes's eyes flickered in fear. She was afraid to look at Jeanette. "Zoey's pregnant. This is an amulet to make sure she has a safe and fast delivery when the time comes."
"Mom, that is none of your business!" Jeanette's eyes were reddened. "Don't tell me you already treat her as your own daughter. What about me? Am I just a random kid that means nothing to you? I've always been begging you to give me your amulet, but you never once accepted my request. Does that mean that only Zoey's safety matters to you?"
"No. I..."
"Mom, this is too much!" Jeanette shouted and ran away.
"Jeanette..." Agnes called out to Jeanette helplessly as the latter left.
