After treating Serena and handing the cure for corruption to Alden, Alex, Alicia, and Alden allowed her to rest inside her room.
Serena was no longer fighting for her life. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, Alicia and Alden could finally breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that their mother was safe.
The medical devices that had once surrounded her had been turned off. The blackened corruption that had devoured her body was gone. Her breathing was calm, her face peaceful, and a faint warmth had returned to her skin.
Alicia stood beside the bed for a few seconds longer, staring at her mother's resting figure.
Her eyes were still slightly red.
Alden remained silent as well.
Neither of them wanted to leave.
But eventually, they stepped out of the room with Alex, quietly closing the door behind them.
