Veyron's head tumbled across the shattered ground and rolled to a stop in front of Veyra.
For a few seconds, she didn't understand what had just happened.
Her mind refused to process it.
The battlefield noise seemed to fade, replaced only by the echoing sound of her own heartbeat. All she could see was her brother's lifeless face staring up at nothing, his eyes still wide with despair.
Above them, the masked figure laughed softly.
He looked down at the twins as if they were insects.
Exactly the way Veyra herself had always looked at the people she killed.
She picked up her brother's head with her remaining hand, fingers trembling. His features were twisted in terror. It was the same expression—exactly the same—as those people she had toyed with and slaughtered.
Alex crouched down in front of her.
"What happened?" he asked lightly. "Are you not having fun anymore?"
