Chapter 339 - Chapter 339: Playing With Fire

The dinner, along with the chaos and fun that ensued, did the trick, and I finally felt like myself again. However, Genta, Naruto, and I had eaten so much that we stumbled through the streets like drunken chickens, constantly bumping our heads against each other as we walked in a heavy food coma. Shizuru made sure we made it home safely, and all three of us ended up passing out at my house.

I woke up to find that Genta had already left for a D-rank mission. He truly was a dedicated shinobi. I made breakfast, and the delicious smell woke Naruto. After we ate, I sat down and started working on his seal. Though he was brave enough to act interested in my work at first, he soon started yawning so wide I thought he might dislocate his jaw. He eventually got bored enough that he ran off to find Miki-baasama for some morning mischief.

For the next few days, all I did was bury myself in medical ninjutsu books. Studying the intricate knowledge of the human body and its chakra pathways opened my mind to new possibilities. It gave me ideas for further improvements to my planned stormdrive seal augmentation. I also worked on advancing my puppetry techniques, which progressed rapidly once I finally grasped the underlying mechanics. In the end, I was able to achieve my main goal as I managed to conceptualize an ingenious, multi-layered design that would solve Naruto's chakra control issue once and for all.

The current issue stemmed directly from the Fourth Hokage's Eight Trigrams Seal. The seal was designed to allow the Nine-Tails' chakra to slowly leak and naturally mix with Naruto's own chakra system. However, due to the intense malice and aggression inherent in the Fox's chakra, it caused the energy moving through Naruto's coils to become incredibly erratic and unpredictable. While this potent chakra passively strengthened his body and pathways, the chaotic flow was an absolute nightmare for a shinobi trying to perform delicate chakra control exercises.

My solution was a three-tiered modification. The first layer of my seal would attach directly to the specific node of the Eight Trigrams Seal that fed the Nine-Tails' chakra into Naruto's system. Its primary function was separation, acting as a net that would immediately catch the leaking Fox chakra and prevent the two distinct energy types from prematurely mixing and causing turbulence within his pathways.

Instead of letting the volatile energy run wild, the second layer of my seal would act as a filtration matrix. It would process the erratic Nine-Tails chakra, stripping away the hostile intent and stabilizing it until it was much closer to neutral, natural chakra. To achieve this, I utilized both the advanced sealing array I had used in Gaara's case, which successfully shielded him from the mindless rage of the One-Tail, and my recent breakthroughs in chakra-specific conditioned barriers. This ensured the Fox's energy was safe enough to mix with Naruto's without causing any internal disruption.

Finally, the third layer would regulate the flow. It would ensure the purified chakra moved smoothly through his coils at a consistent, rhythmic drip. This steady integration would maintain the physical benefits, though on a lower level than before, constantly stretching and strengthening Naruto's coils with dense energy, while completely eliminating the random spikes that hindered his chakra control training.

After I informed Naruto that I was ready to modify his seal, he was over the moon. He kept jumping around me, begging me to do it right away so he could start training ninjutsu. I sighed, not wanting to dampen his enthusiasm by telling him that he still had to do a thousand chakra control exercises first before being able to walk on walls or water, let alone cast any jutsu.

One day, when Genta was away on a mission and Takemura was attending a clan head meeting with the Hokage, I made my move. I activated the seal on my house, completely muting all chakra signatures inside. To the ANBU watching outside, this usually meant I was working on something dangerous. In this case, I truly was.

In the middle of the living room was a drawn circle, and around it, a complicated seal array connected directly to the center. Naruto gulped at the sheer energy emitting from the ink. I crouched down to his eye level and spoke.

"Naruto, this modification will take time. I have to be very careful because your seal is highly advanced and complex, and I do not want to make a single mistake. I need you to lie perfectly still in the middle of that circle and focus on your breathing. The Nine-Tails will try to fight this. You will feel rage, and you might even start to feel like you need to hurt me."

Naruto's eyes widened, and I nodded seriously. "All I want from you is to breathe in and out in a steady rhythm and try your absolute best to control your emotions. It will not be easy, but if you cannot do this, then there is no hope of you ever possessing a will strong enough to become Hokage."

Naruto nodded back, his face dead serious as he walked into the circle. He lay down, closed his eyes, and began breathing slowly.

I smiled. Naruto indeed possessed incredible mental strength. I sat down and pressed my hand to the ground, causing a section of the seal array to shine before it started crawling across the floor and onto Naruto's body. At first, not much happened, but then Naruto's body began to twitch slightly. I saw his small hands ball into tight fists in a brave attempt to control himself. It was the first time he felt the Nine-Tails' chakra so clearly as the beast fought against both Minato's seal and my own.

The first layer of ink moved to Naruto's belly, slowly forming a ring around his original seal and connecting to a specific node.

I stood up and walked over to the next part of the array. Exhaling deeply, I sat back down and touched the symbols. They glowed with bright light before sliding onto Naruto's body, integrating with my first layer slowly but surely under my strict control. However, the small twitches Naruto exhibited earlier suddenly intensified. The Nine-Tails exerted its absolute power to try and hinder the process that would shield its Jinchuriki from its influence.

Naruto's hair became wilder, standing on end. His fingernails started to elongate into sharp, claw-like forms, while his signature whisker marks deepened into a dark, feral jaggedness. Orange chakra started to leak from him, bubbling like boiling water. If I was not using my barrier to filter the malice from the Nine-Tails' chakra, I probably would have been shaking right then, and my seal work would have been ruined. However, I had learned from the time I modified Gaara's seal. My eyes shone with sheer determination as I activated a barrier covering the circle around Naruto. I injected it with as much chakra as I could spare, heavily taxing my reserves since the intricate sealing process was already eating through most of my chakra.

I could feel that Naruto was afraid. Terrified, even. This was the first time he had experienced this feral state, yet through all of that overwhelming pressure, I felt his determination shine through. He fought against the physical transformation using his recently achieved understanding of his and the Nine-Tails' shared situation. I felt like he was actively talking to the Fox at that moment, though I could not be certain.

A shining dome came into existence around Naruto as I forced myself not to rush the delicate process. Naruto and I were working on the edge of a knife, both doing our absolute best throughout an extremely taxing and dangerous process. My forehead was covered in sweat, exhaustion clear in my eyes, as the second layer of my seal finally clicked into existence directly above the first.

I stood up, keeping my eyes locked on Naruto, whose chakra was still churning chaotically. I moved to the final section of the array, sat down heavily, and pressed my trembling hand to the ground. The final piece of the seal crawled toward him. My vision blurred slightly from chakra exhaustion, but I pushed through.

The more of the third layer I integrated, the more Naruto's physical appearance and chakra signature returned to normal. The final layer was actively helping him control the heavy energy the Nine-Tails was forcing through his system. After a nail-biting, agonizingly harsh, and long process, the third and final layer clicked perfectly into place.

Naruto's exhaustion immediately took over. It looked like his internal battle or conversation with the Fox had taken a massive toll on him, and his consciousness faded as he fell asleep.

For a moment, nothing else happened. Then, Naruto's original seal started to shift and rotate as if it had a will of its own. It was actively determining if my modification was a threat. After a tense second, it accepted the addition, allowing my layers to integrate seamlessly into its complex structure, forming a unified, perfect whole.

My eyes widened as I studied the newly formed seal. My mind opened to entirely new possibilities, my understanding of the art of fuinjutsu increasing yet again to staggering new heights.
