Chapter 624: Yeah, Yeah, You're Totally Right

After Steven perfectly demonstrated the meaning of "the invincible power of having no shame," both Centaurea and Irene found themselves completely helpless against him.

No matter what they said, he simply responded with the same expression and the same attitude.

As for violence?

They had already tried that.

This scoundrel's defense stat seemed to have been leveled beyond all reason. Irene was convinced that even if she managed to get her hand cannon back and fired it straight into his face, he'd probably just treat it as dust hitting his face.

"You're shameless."

"Yeah, yeah, you're totally right."

"Can you have even a little sense of shame?"

"Yeah, yeah, you're totally right."

Ignoring the furious glares from the two girls, Steven nodded along like a broken record, readily agreeing with every accusation.

"I hope you take the same attitude toward your own life."

"Oh? What's wrong with that?"

Finally finding something he could argue back against, Steven immediately raised his head and looked directly at Centaurea.

"...You should just go die, you jerk."

The two girls had likely never met someone this shameless before. For a moment, they were rendered completely speechless.

How could he say something like that with a straight face?

Did he seriously have no sense of embarrassment whatsoever?

"Can't do that. If I die, who'll accompany you two shopping? I'm basically a walking payment machine. Besides, we're already here. No point staying upset, right?"

Seeing that their anger had shifted entirely toward him and that the initial fury had begun to fade, Steven shamelessly pressed forward with a suggestion.

Staring at each other wasn't going to solve anything, so wouldn't it be better to find something fun to do together?

That would be much healthier for everyone's relationship.

"Don't tell me you think we've forgiven you."

Just looking at Steven's utterly shameless grin made Irene's blood pressure rise.

The worst part was that he was completely immune to criticism.

After some thought, she realized that continuing to argue would accomplish nothing except infuriate herself.

So she shot him a vicious glare before letting out a long sigh.

Apparently still dissatisfied, she immediately began kicking Steven's shin repeatedly.

Meanwhile, Centaurea quietly watched the scene.

Despite continuously attacking Steven with her feet, Irene stubbornly refused to let go of the arm she was hugging.

Seeing that, Centaurea gradually came to understand something.

Making Irene back down was never going to be easy.

And if she tried to use underhanded tricks to force the issue, it would likely earn Steven's displeasure instead.

When she really thought about it, whatever Steven did outside wasn't actually her business.

As long as he continued treating her well, why should she try to restrict his freedom?

With that realization, her mood gradually eased.

Even so, she still wasn't willing to let him off so easily.

"No, of course not," Steven quickly replied. "What I mean is that this is my compensation. How can I ask for forgiveness without doing something first? Today, all expenses are on me, alright? Besides, there are tons of delicious street snacks around tonight. Wouldn't it be a waste not to enjoy them?"

Steven pointed toward the increasingly lively streets.

Though night had only just fallen, the merchants had already finished setting up.

Rows of food stalls and festival stands lined both sides of the road, displaying colorful snacks and various holiday trinkets.

The number of tourists and pedestrians had noticeably increased as well.

Following Steven's gaze, Irene looked toward the bustling street.

As expected, her attention was immediately captured by the vibrant scene.

Such lively festivities were something she had rarely, if ever, experienced back in Iberia.

For a moment, she hesitated.

Should she continue wasting time arguing with this shameless idiot?

Or should she go explore everything this festival had to offer?

A conflicted expression appeared on her face.

Steven's thick-skinned personality clearly wasn't going to change anytime soon.

But this festival only comes once a year.

There were countless sights and curiosities she wanted to experience.

More importantly...

She didn't want to waste the precious time she had to spend with Steven.

To be honest, Irene's frustration was directed more at Steven for keeping things from her than at Centaurea herself.

After all, as an Inquisitor, she had never expected to have much time to build a family or pursue a proper romance in the first place.

That was also the reason she had never fully confessed her feelings to Steven.

No one knew when an Inquisitor's lamp would go out.

At any moment, she could die fighting the Seaborn.

And because she didn't want Steven to be left all alone afterward, she had long since decided that what they had now was enough.

Since that was the case, then continuing to dwell on this matter felt somewhat pointless.

"I'm not forgiving you, okay?" Irene gritted her teeth as she grabbed Steven by the arm and began dragging him toward a nearby food stall. "I just can't be bothered dealing with you anymore. I refuse to let your nonsense ruin my good mood today. That's all. Got it?"

Even as she pulled him along, she continued rattling off one tsundere excuse after another.

"Yeah, yeah, you're totally right."

The moment Steven realized one of them had finally backed down, a delighted grin spread across his face.

Nodding furiously like a pecking chicken, he readily agreed and prepared to follow Irene toward the food stalls.

Then he felt a tug from his other arm.

The smile instantly froze on his face.

Awkwardly stopping in place, he turned to look at the silent Kuranta girl standing beside him.

"There are too many people," Centaurea said calmly. "I don't feel like going. Why don't you take me home first?"

While she had no intention of continuing the argument about Steven's little problem, she wasn't particularly interested in shopping either.

Unlike Irene, who found everything about the festival exciting and novel, Centaurea had spent many years living in Kazimierz.

Crowded shopping streets and festive events weren't exactly new to her.

More importantly...

This was clearly an opportunity to make Steven suffer a little.

And she saw absolutely no reason to pass it up.

Surely he didn't think she would forgive him that easily?

The world didn't work that way.

As for Steven himself—

Looking at the two girls standing on either side of him, both once again pulling him toward completely different destinations, he found himself trapped in yet another deadlock.

This time, however, his shamelessness wasn't going to save him.

Why don't I know any cloning techniques?

Seriously, somebody—anybody—give me a solution here!

I've read plenty of Manga before, but none of them ever explained what you're supposed to do when two girls are dragging you in opposite directions!

For the first time all evening, Steven genuinely felt despair creeping into his heart.
