On the same workbench that he found the strange gun was two blue glowing rods. They looked not too dissimilar to a hot glue gun stick, honestly, aside from the fact it was glowing a shade of blue. Adam had no idea what this thing was and the schematics on the pegboard offered no insight. Whatever it was it clearly was unique so for the moment Adam stashed the gun away and the two blue sticks into his bag for later. This one he would not sell, he would figure it out later though.
He grabbed the other various things in the room of value and then set off down the hall again. Eve was already peaking into the room opposite the one he stepped into and found a stockroom. It was small, but it was more or less full of tools one would expect to find at a hanger. More than half of it, no doubt, was hardly worth the metal it was cast from, but the other half would sell for a decent bit no doubt.
Gathering all of that he then set down the hall again, heading to the, hopefully, final set of double doors. These double doors had a small double paned foggy glass window at eye level that Adam could just barely see through. He couldn't make out many details but he did see that the room was large and had a tall ceiling. So, without further ado, he opened the door.
Inside was a hangar. A tall ceiling as he would expect, shelves of tools, most of which he recognized at a glance, some he did not, an office unit set up in the back right corner, clearly added into this underground structure after it was built, judging by the way the metal shell just sat out in the open, protruding from the wall and not inside it, a partially built vertibird prototype, a pile of weird containers, and finally the thing that most caught his attention, a ship.
No, not a sailing ship, a space ship. There was no other way to describe what he was seeing. It was like a UFO ripped straight from the movies, built like a saucer pan with a little bubble where the cockpit sat. This was… definitely something that was worth hiding underground.
The ship seemed to have a giant hole through the center of it, like a cannon ball had ripped straight through without stopping, but other than the hole it looked intact, for the most part anyway. However as Adam stepped closer to the ship, trying to examine what this sci-fi alien looking vessel was about he suddenly stopped when red warning lights began to whir from above, then, a moment later, laser turrets on the top of the roof began to arm themselves and a section of the wall opened up revealing a sentry bot and an assaultron.
As the turrets from above began to fire, everyone scattered across the room, taking cover in various places. Rae was the exception as they got filled with numerous laser shots before they were able to get into a modicum of cover. They were pretty badly hit but still functioning. He could look at Rae later, right now he needed to focus on the firefight.
The sentry bot began to pour lead downrange at where Deccanus was hiding while the assaultron charged up its head laser at where Adam was.
Before it could fire off its laser though Eve fired first, taking off the entire left arm of the assaultron with her own head laser and ruining the aim of the other assaultron as it took a fall. Its own head laser carving a molten path through the floor and walls as it spun out.
Adam, not missing this chance, quickly popped out of cover and laid into the assaultron's chassis with his own laser rifle, trying to defeat it before it could fight back. However he did not get more than a few shots in before the overhead sentry turrets began to rain hell down on him, forcing him to take cover again.
Adam turned to Mira who was in cover next to him as the sounds of fire were continuing from nearby.
"Mira, that office over there, I am betting that the system control for the turrets is inside there. If you can get there-" Adam began before Mira cut him off.
"We can turn the turret system against itself and use them to help us handle that beast over there." She said, referring to the sentry bot. Adam nodded.
"I would do it myself but you have the stealth suit."
"No, I understand." She nodded back. "Cover me." She then tapped the controls on her suit, went into stealth mode, and then began to crouch walk away. Adam, fulfilling her request, popped back out of cover again and fired more at the assaultron which was now starting to stand up with difficulty, clearly heavily damaged by the attack. He got off a handful of shots before he was, once again, forced into cover by the turrets.
By now Mira was completely gone from view, he could only assume that she was inside the room by now or at least close, it was not too far away. However the thought of her corpse laying cold on the ground, still hidden by the stealth suit's technology did cross his mind for a moment but he shrugged it off and kept fighting.
The sentry bot was still suppressing Deccanus forcing him to remain in cover, Eve was still hiding herself, waiting for an opportunity to strike, and Rae was remaining in cover, perhaps a bit cowed by the damage they had already taken. However it was a safer bet to assume they were just waiting for an opportunity to strike again. Adam for his sake was doing his best to pop out of cover to get some shots in at their foes, only to be continually be forced back into cover by the laser turrets.
Then, as if by magic, the overhead turrets suddenly stopped firing altogether. Mira had done it. Now was their chance.
Adam popped out of cover again and took aim at the assaultron, her head laser charging again. He fired right at her head. There was an explosion moments later that followed as all the energy of the charged laser was forcefully dissipated in one go. Its head exploded and the body fell limp to the ground, dead.
However the sentry bot was still going, firing a rocket at the crates that Deccanus had used as cover. The explosion cracked open the crates and threw various parts all over. Deccanus himself was thrown a few feet away.
Adam began to lay into the Sentry bot with his laser rifle. Eve vaulted over her cover and dove head first into the sentry bot. She started to drill through the chassis with her claws but was batted away a moment later by the minigun arm of the sentry bot. She seemed uninjured though her momentum was clearly stopped. Rae, however, took the initiative now and began to lay into the sentry bot with their own lasers. The fire was effective at forcing the sentry bot to reorient itself and completely refocus on Rae.
However, just as its minigun began to spool up the turrets from above began to tear into the Sentry bot with a hail of laser fire.
The sentry bot, even under the intense lasers from multiple angles, spun itself around and tried to aim up at the laser turrets at the ceiling but gave Adam the perfect opportunity to aim for the back. The back panel, however, was not yet visible. So Adam decided to take a gamble, as he was so fond of doing.
He reached into his bag, pulled out the alien looking blaster that he found, and then loaded in one of the glowing blue glue sticks. He took aim, and fired.
A moment later a blue bolt of light shot out of the gun and hit the sentry bot squarely in the vent port. It tore through the metal armor without stopping as it made contact with the fusion core and then kept going. There was no time for anyone to get into cover. The moment the round had torn through the fusion core casing a violent explosion rocked the room throwing Eve backwards because she was so close.
