Adam walked down to the building staircase to meet up with his friends. By the time he got down there they were cleaning up the battlefield, scavenging the dead cultist weapons. Most of the weapons themselves were of middling quality, but so long as they were not pipe guns, which they were not, they would sell for something. He had the space in the APC after all.
"I say that went rather well, don't you all?" Adam said with a smile as he walked over to the others.
"I beg to differ." Deccanus said, still rubbing his eyes. "I am not fond of flash powder." He said with a frown.
"It was a flashbang, actually." Mira said as she emerged from the shadows, disengaging her stealth system and joining the group herself. "I bought one before we left just in case we got in some trouble. Turns out I was right." She let off a soft laugh.
"I think it went splendidly." Eve said with a proud stance and excited tone.
"Rae helped too!" Rae said as they rolled over, happily.
"Yes, Rae was a big help." Adam smiled at Rae and then turned to Deccanus. "Are you alright?"
"Yes, I will be, but do allow me if I remain irritable for the moment." Deccanus said with a soft sigh of annoyance.
"Alright, well looks like you guys beat me to it, gathering up all the cultist weapons. You guys do that and I'll grab the supplies from the building I was sniping from and then we can go inside together."
"Sounds like a plan, handsome~" Eve said as she gently dragged one bloody claw down from her face to her hips in an almost seductive way.
The group then spent the next few minutes gathering everything, of which there was not an insubstantial amount. It certainly would not be worth too much alone, however in addition to what they hoped to find inside it was a nice bonus.
Adam chose not to, this time, take the robes off the dead bodies. While Olivia bought the robes last time she was none too pleased about it and considering how hot Chicago was getting, with the number of cultists roaming around, he didn't want to put her in any unnecessary risk by selling her faction specific clothing. Besides, they were just heavily padded robes, it's not like they were particularly valuable.
The biggest boon from looting the corpses was actually medical supplies. He found 3 stimpacks, 2 Med-X, 1 Radaway, and 2 Radx. He also found an assortment of drugs but Adam was none too fond of chems so he simply planned to sell them. Having a small stockpile of medical supplies again though was certainly nice.
Then, once everything was loading into the APC everyone, including Rae, headed inside the lab.
What met them inside was a predictable mess. Papers, computers, chairs, and tables thrown about without care. Whether the mess was caused by the cultists looking for something or due to the nature of it being an abandoned building for over 200 years housing who knows. After all, what happened in that span of time was anyone's guess. Regardless, it was clear the cultists were not here for a simple scavenging run. Almost immediately upon entering Adam found a scattered pile of energy cells that had spilled over from a table. Unless the people who went inside were blind they definitely would have seen these cells. Even if they did not favor energy weapons the cells were definitely worth a few caps, certainly worth something at Midway and yet they did not take them.
As to hammer this point he found a Nuka cola vending machine in the main room that had the entire metal front smashed open revealing the contents inside, a nearly fully stocked machine. Of note, however, was a nuka cola quantum, its iconic luminescent blue shining inside the machine as if calling to Adam.
Between the fact that Nuka cola quantums were rare and quite valuable, and the fact it was literally glowing blue there was simply no way the cultists would have missed it. Especially since there was clearly evidence that they had gone further than just the front room. That was proof. The cultists were here looking for something. Something that meant they were going to ignore all other loot in the building.
Their loss was Adam's gain, however, so he loaded up his backpack with all the Nuka cola, greedily, and then took out the Nuka cola quantum. Certainly the glowing blue beverage would be far tastier if it was cold but beggars can't be choosers and Adam had not had a nuka cola quantum in so long. This was the best benefit of being a scaver, old world treasures like these were unmatched.
Adam popped the cap open, putting the bottlecap in his bag, and then began to drink the quantum. It was just as good as he remembered. It had a distinct flavor from the normal nuka cola. It almost had a punch to it, and the carbonation was somehow harsher, but it tasted that much better in exchange. However while Adam was drinking he noticed that his geiger counter was reading him gaining rads. Which was… confusing… Why would he be gaining rads? He wasn't anywhere near radiation at the moment… unless of course the Nuka Cola Quantum was, itself, radioactive.
Adam blinked twice while he processed this possibility, staring at the still glowing drink in his hand. Were the rumors about the Nuka Cola Quantum from the old world correct? Was it always radioactive? It's not like he had a geiger counter on hand every time he drank one of these.
No, no, that can't be. Maybe these bottles of nuka cola were just especially irradiated. Nuka Cola Quantum, due to its great flavor profile must just… absorb radiation easier… yeah… that was it…
Adam decided to put this out of his head. He didn't want to think about the dark implication this had for the Nuka Cola family brand, so instead he just drank the Nuka cola quantum happily, ignoring the light ticking coming from his pip-boy. After all, what's a few rads when he can enjoy such a great taste?
