Chapter 444: Beerus Gets Serious
Angels, whether in terms of power or status, are beings destined to stand above both Gods of Destruction and Supreme Kais.
Their divinity is clearly on a much higher level than that of the Gods of Destruction.
However, upon hearing Uchiha Dali's question, the Grand Priest's expression turned deeply meaningful.
He gazed at Uchiha Dali for quite a while before finally answering, "According to the current average standard of divinity, a trainee angel must reach at least 5,000 divine points to pass. A full-fledged angel must exceed 15,000 points."
"I understand. Thank you for the guidance."
Uchiha Dali nodded, said nothing more, and sat cross-legged on the spot, beginning to meditate just as the Grand Priest had instructed—to accumulate divinity.
The Grand Priest watched him for a long moment, his gaze thoughtful, before finally turning to leave.
Sensing his departure, Uchiha Dali opened his eyes again.
"That guy seemed to be hinting at something… I wonder if he meant what I think he did."
"But I can't read what's going on in his mind."
"In any case, I'll take things step by step."
He thought to himself in silence.
Earlier, the Grand Priest had made a point of emphasizing that the Angel race was an absolutely neutral one—they only served the Grand Zeno and carried out his will, but never used their power to intervene in battles.
That almost sounded like a hint.
The Gods of Destruction were no longer capable of posing a threat to him. The only ones who could now were the Angels, the Grand Zeno's two guards, and the Grand Zeno himself.
But if the Angels did not take part in conflicts, then that meant that if Uchiha Dali wished to replace the Grand Zeno, he would only need to deal with the two guards—and then the Grand Zeno himself.
Even if the Grand Priest was immensely powerful, he would not interfere with such a plan.
[Ding! You are now in a meditative state. Your perception of universal divine power has improved, and your divine insight has increased. Your divinity has risen!]
[Your extraordinary comprehension grants you a bonus—your divinity growth rate has doubled!]
…
As Uchiha Dali contemplated this, the familiar system chime echoed in his mind.
Yet he didn't seem particularly pleased; rather, he looked somewhat dissatisfied.
"So even with my extraordinary comprehension, the growth rate only doubles?"
"It seems that divinity really isn't something that can be attained overnight… The minimum standard for a trainee angel is 5,000 points, and a full-fledged angel must have over 15,000."
"I still have a long way to go."
He closed his eyes once again and entered a deeper state of meditation.
…
Realm of the Gods of Destruction.
After returning, Beerus had no appetite and sat on the sofa, resting his chin on one hand, lost in thought.
Whis brought over a freshly prepared meal, but Beerus only glanced at it.
"Lord Beerus, you seem rather preoccupied today."
Whis set the dishes on the table as he spoke.
"Whis, use your abilities to analyze something for me—why did the Grand Zeno summon Uchiha Dali?"
Beerus asked seriously.
At that, Whis rolled his eyes. "How could I possibly know what's on the Grand Zeno's mind?"
Seeing that Whis didn't intend to help, Beerus pouted. "Tch… stingy!"
Then he sighed heavily. "The Super Saiyan God still hasn't appeared, and now this Uchiha Dali guy shows up."
"His power is incredible. Can a lower-dimensional god really grow that strong, Whis?"
Though Beerus hadn't fought Uchiha Dali with full force, he could tell that the man would be a difficult opponent to defeat—and that gnawed at him.
Whis replied calmly, "In theory, there isn't much difference between a lower dimension and ours. A lower dimension was once an equal-level higher dimension before it offended the Grand Zeno and was demoted."
"Not being erased outright was already the best outcome."
"The level a god from there can reach depends solely on their own talent and potential. By the way, Lord Beerus, why are you so concerned about Uchiha Dali?"
Whis tilted his head in curiosity.
Beerus let out a deep sigh. "That kid feels… dangerous."
"Is it because you're worried he might take your place, Lord Beerus?"
Whis asked bluntly, showing no regard for Beerus's pride.
Beerus didn't deny it—he merely nodded.
"I've lived for billions of years as a God of Destruction. It's true, I'm getting tired of it… but I haven't decided to step down yet."
"Besides, that's not my only concern, Whis."
"You should know exactly what I mean."
His eyes sharpened as he spoke, his usual lazy demeanor vanishing. The narrow slits of his eyes glinted with alertness and menace.
Whis was silent for two seconds, then nodded slightly.
"Although Uchiha Dali seems polite on the surface, it's hard to read what's in his heart."
"A mortal from a lower dimension who's climbed his way here through sheer effort—if he didn't have tremendous ambition driving him, it would be hard to believe he could have come this far."
"After all, the circumstances of the lower dimensions make it nearly impossible for mortals or gods to reach this realm."
"When you put it that way, he does seem rather suspicious…"
As Whis spoke, he stroked his chin thoughtfully.
Beerus's eyes lit up the moment Whis agreed.
He leapt from the sofa, energized. "Right?! You think so too, don't you, Whis?"
"I knew it—there's no way that brat came here by coincidence! He must have some secret motive!"
"I just don't know what it is yet!"
Beerus's sharp eyes gleamed dangerously.
Whis, however, remained indifferent.
"Lord Beerus, shall I reheat your meal?" he asked, clearly unwilling to continue the discussion.
Beerus jumped down from the sofa without another word, opened the food container, and took a bite.
"Not bad, Whis."
"After I eat and take a short rest, we're going to train."
That made Whis blink in surprise. "Lord Beerus, what's gotten into you?"
"Is that a problem?" Beerus shot back.
"Not at all—it's just that I've supervised you so many times before, and every time you found an excuse to avoid continuing your unfinished training," Whis replied.
Beerus gave a cold snort. "I'm suddenly motivated, that's all."
He flicked his tail lightly. "As the ruler of the Seventh Universe, I won't allow anyone to cause trouble in my domain."
"No matter what Uchiha Dali is plotting, I won't sit back and watch!"
"So you're saying, Lord Beerus… you think you can't beat him right now?"
Whis asked in surprise.
