Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

The night was alive with unseen forces. The cool air carried the scent of damp earth, the distant hoot of an owl breaking the uneasy silence. As the lost heir followed the mysterious guide through the ruins, their mind swirled with questions.

A prophecy. A hidden past. A kingdom in turmoil.

It was too much to take in at once, yet something deep inside urged them forward.

The guide led them through a narrow passage between the crumbling pillars, where ivy curled over the stones like nature reclaiming its lost domain. In the center of the shrine, a circular stone platform bore the same dragon emblem as the scroll. The lantern's flickering glow cast eerie shapes across the carvings.

"Step forward," the guide instructed.

The heir hesitated before placing a cautious foot on the platform. The moment they did, a low hum filled the air, the ground beneath them vibrating ever so slightly.

"What is this place?" they asked, feeling the energy pulse through their bones.

"The Shrine of the Forgotten Oath," the guide murmured. "This is where the first ruler of the Moonlit Kingdom swore their loyalty to the land. And where you will begin your journey."

The words sent a shiver down the heir's spine. The thought of being tied to a history they had never known felt surreal.

Before they could question further, a rustle in the trees broke the stillness.

The guide tensed, fingers curling around the handle of a concealed dagger. "We are not alone."

The heir's breath hitched.

From the shadows beyond the shrine, a figure emerged—a tall silhouette moving with the silent grace of a predator. The moonlight glinted off a silver brooch pinned to his dark robes, marking him as someone of noble blood.

Shen Haoyu.

The prince's eyes locked onto the heir's with a sharp intensity, his expression unreadable.

"So, it is true," he said, his voice calm yet laced with something deeper. "The lost heir still lives."

The heir's pulse quickened. This was the first time they had ever come face-to-face with the man who could be either their greatest enemy or… something else entirely.

The guide stepped protectively in front of them. "You shouldn't be here, prince."

"And yet, here I am." Haoyu's gaze flickered to the scroll still clutched in the heir's hands. "You have no idea what you're stepping into."

The heir found their voice. "Then tell me."

A wry smile ghosted across Haoyu's lips. "I'd rather show you."

Without warning, he unsheathed his sword, the metal gleaming under the moon's glow.

The heir barely had time to react before the blade came swinging toward them.
