Silas and the two Pokémon Hunters all stood there in stunned silence.
The Pokémon that had appeared out of nowhere, moving too fast for anyone to track, turned its attention to the remaining Pokémon after knocking Blaziken and the others flying.
Alakazam, Pidgeot, Venusaur, Rapidash, and Magmortar were all struck one after another. Only when it reached Garchomp did its movements slow ever so slightly, though it was still impossible to follow with the naked eye.
One after another, all nine Pokémon were sent flying by devastating blows.
For a brief moment, the only sounds left at the end of the Dragon's Den were the rushing river and the roaring waterfall.
The only Pokémon still standing was Gallade. Gritting its teeth against the overwhelming pressure, it raised its blade-like arms and stood protectively in front of its trainer.
"That form..."
Judging by the silhouette alone, Silas narrowed his eyes thoughtfully.
"ROOOAAR!!"
An enraged dragon's roar echoed through the area.
Only then did the mysterious Pokémon finally reveal itself after defeating every standing Pokémon.
"So it really is a Dragonite."
Silas's expression immediately darkened.
Normally, he would have happily patted the lovable dragon.
But this wasn't an ordinary Dragonite.
Its eyes were glowing crimson, and its entire body was shrouded in a faint red aura.
[Dragonite (Outrage State)
Category: Dragon Pokémon
Type: Dragon / Flying
Height: 3.0 m (Average: 2.2 m)
Weight: 306.3 kg (Average: 210.0 kg)
Strength: Tier 3 Legendary (Enhanced by Outrage)]
Only now did Zero's status panel finally appear.
Silas's attention was instantly drawn to the displayed strength.
Tier 3 Legendary.
Excluding Legendary and Mythical Pokémon, he had only ever encountered two Pokémon of this level.
The first had been Pryce's Delibird.
The second was the Dragonite standing before him.
"So this is the Dragon's Den Guardian, the former ace Pokémon of the Gym Leader before Clair's predecessor."
Sweat trickled down Silas's forehead under Dragonite's overwhelming Dragon Aura as his mind raced.
To push the famously gentle Guardian Dragonite into an Outrage state, those hunters must have stolen something incredibly important.
Was it the legendary 'Flame of Prayer'? But that doesn't seem like something they could easily carry. Or could they have taken Dragonite's Dratini offspring?
Countless possibilities flashed through his mind.
Yet none of them seemed to fully explain Dragonite's fury.
There was a saying:
"Every dragon has an inverse scale. Touch it, and its wrath knows no bounds."
That proverb was the very origin of the move Outrage.
For most Dragon-type Pokémon, Outrage wasn't merely an offensive move.
In the Pokémon games from Silas's previous life, Outrage was simple.
The user continuously attacked for several turns before becoming confused afterward.
But in the real Pokémon world, Outrage was far more than that.
It dramatically amplified a Dragon-type's physical abilities.
When consumed by overwhelming rage, Dragon-types could unleash incredible strength and speed while radiating terrifying Dragon Aura.
Researchers believed this happened because extreme anger temporarily removed the brain's natural limits on the body's capabilities.
Naturally, losing rational thought during the process and becoming confused afterward were unavoidable side effects.
Many users also suffered severe physical strain afterward.
In short, Outrage required truly overwhelming anger.
For some Pokémon, such as Salamence, reaching that emotional state wasn't difficult.
Some Salamence even entered Outrage over relatively minor provocations.
Dragonite, however, was completely different.
Kind-hearted, gentle, patient, and dependable, Dragonite was widely recognized as one of the least temperamental Pokémon in existence.
The only situation where one would instantly lose control was if someone damaged or removed its inverse scale.
But no sane trainer would ever attempt such a thing.
That would be outright suicide.
Which was exactly why Silas couldn't imagine what these hunters had actually done.
"Hey."
Silas spoke without taking his eyes off Dragonite.
"What exactly did you steal?"
The two Pokémon Hunters, who had instinctively moved closer together, looked at him in disbelief.
Seriously?
At a time like this, that's what you're asking?
Hunter R glanced at Silas before answering.
"The miraculous flame that's been burning for five hundred years. we only took a tiny portion of it."
Faced with an absurdly powerful Dragonite that had completely lost control and could no longer distinguish friend from foe, all three of them had temporarily become allies.
Otherwise, none of them would last even a few seconds alone.
For the first time, Hunter R genuinely regretted accepting Team Rocket's offer.
She had known the mission was dangerous.
But the reward had been too tempting.
She simply hadn't expected things to go this catastrophically wrong.
"No."
Silas immediately rejected the explanation.
"That alone wouldn't make the Guardian enter Outrage."
Dragonite stood not far away, glaring at all three of them with unprecedented ferocity.
Silas didn't dare move.
He could only keep talking.
Although Clair had never revealed the exact location of the Dragon Sanctuary, she had once told him about its Guardian.
The Dragonite had originally belonged to the Gym Leader before the previous Blackthorn Gym Leader.
Influenced by its trainer's lifelong devotion to protecting the sanctuary, Dragonite had remained there peacefully even after its trainer passed away, inheriting that responsibility and guarding the sacred land ever since.
Which meant Dragonite wasn't especially attached to the sacred flame itself.
The flame held much greater significance for the Dragon Tamers than it did for Dragonite.
"When you stole the flame..."
Silas asked rapidly,
"Did anything else happen?"
Hunter R and Hunter K exchanged glances.
They immediately understood what the other was thinking.
Hunter K swallowed nervously.
"When we escaped, Dragonite wasn't like this."
"So maybe the guy we left behind caused some trouble."
"Damn it."
Silas couldn't help cursing.
What a useless answer.
You had practically abandoned that teammate to die.
Of course he'd cause chaos.
"If he's a Water-type specialist..."
Silas's face grew increasingly grim.
"...that idiot didn't flood the Dragon Sanctuary with his Elite-level Water Pokémon did he?"
If that was what had happened, then Dragonite's current state suddenly made perfect sense.
Imagine someone breaking into your home.
Stealing your treasures. And then flooding the place before leaving.
Anyone would lose their mind.
"ROOOAAARRR!!"
Dragonite roared once more.
Its crimson eyes locked onto the two hunters as it charged again.
Hunter R nearly exploded in frustration.
"What the hell?!"
Silas had been standing closer to Dragonite.
Yet despite being in Outrage, Dragonite completely ignored him and went straight for the hunters.
There was no longer any point talking about a temporary alliance.
Survival came first.
"Go!"
"You damned monsters!"
Hunter R's face twisted viciously.
Even the disguise mask on her face began peeling away.
With a flick of her wrist, she threw two completely ordinary-looking Poké Balls.
"Screee!"
"Screee!"
Two harsh bird cries rang out simultaneously.
Silas completely lost his composure.
"What the hell?!" Silas blurted out for the second time in a matter of minutes. "A two-headed chimera?!"
Two bizarre bird Pokémon emerged from the Poké Balls.
It wasn't a Dodrio missing one of its heads.
Instead...
"A Zapdos Moltres?!"
The corner of Silas's mouth twitched uncontrollably.
The creature had Moltres's body, but when it reached the neck, it split into two heads like Hydreigon, one head belonging to Moltres, the other to Zapdos.
"So Team Rocket is behind this? Is this why they attacked the Legendary Birds? Genetic experimentation? They're trying to create another Pokémon like Mewtwo?
Though it still looks unfinished. Otherwise, it would probably have three heads."
With the information he knew, Silas immediately pieced everything together.
"Cloning and fusion. Team Rocket's biotechnology is terrifying."
He didn't even know where to begin.
Apparently, Mewtwo's creation had brought Team Rocket more than just an overwhelmingly powerful weapon. It had also dramatically advanced their biological Pokémon research.
Thinking about it, that made perfect sense.
Although Mewtwo's birth had been an extraordinary coincidence, it remained the only artificial Legendary Pokémon, perhaps even the only artificially created major Legendary. The research data collected during its creation would naturally possess immeasurable scientific value.
Using that knowledge to create these so called Three Headed Legendary Birds wasn't impossible.
However, according to both Silas and Zero's analysis, the flaws of these two-headed birds were enormous.
Reaching the level of a normal Pokémon would clearly take Team Rocket much longer.
Watching the three sided battle where none of the combatants distinguished friend from foe, Silas quietly recorded his observations.
"Subject suffers from emotional instability and cannot distinguish allies from enemies. However, the two heads do not interfere with each other.
Combat ability is extremely high, but still below the Tier Three Legendary level. With both heads cooperating, each specimen is likely stronger than an ordinary Champion level Pokémon.
Physical condition is unstable. Offensive capabilities rely primarily on energy attacks while physical defense is comparatively weak. Combat duration appears limited. Extended battles likely cause genetic collapse.
Reaction speed is slower than that of a normal Champion level Pokémon, but coordination between the two heads compensates for this weakness.
The dominant head differs between specimens. One is led by Moltres's head, the other by Zapdos's.
There doesn't seem to be any consistent pattern. The primary body doesn't appear to determine which head takes control.
..."
Being something of a researcher himself, combined with his knowledge as both a Trainer and Pokémon Breeder, Silas quickly worked with Zero to compile a complete analysis.
This was incredibly valuable intelligence.
"Garchomp!"
"Blaziken!"
"Pidgeot!"
The three Pokémon, breathing heavily, regrouped beside Silas.
Perhaps because of its overwhelming strength, the Guardian Dragonite hadn't been completely consumed by Outrage.
Ignoring Silas while targeting the two poachers was one sign.
Holding back against Garchomp, Blaziken, and Pidgeot was another.
Just look at the other five Pokémon. Their bodies were covered in injuries, and they still lay unconscious.
The difference between a Tier Three Legendary and an Elite level Pokémon was truly heaven and earth.
Garchomp looked worried as it stared at the Guardian, who was completely different from its usual self.
"Relax. There's no way it's going to lose."
Silas immediately noticed Garchomp's concern and casually reassured it.
Although it looked like the Guardian Dragonite was being forced into a one against two battle, it wasn't at a disadvantage at all.
It even cleverly took advantage of the two-headed birds' inability to distinguish friend from foe, occasionally causing them to strike each other.
If not for the obvious crimson glow of Outrage surrounding it, Silas would have thought Dragonite was still completely sane.
The entire battle was being dictated purely by its overwhelming combat instincts.
Of course, this was also because the two-headed birds were combinations of Moltres and Zapdos.
If Articuno had been one of the components instead, Dragonite would have been in much greater trouble.
A quadruple weakness to Ice wasn't something to joke about.
Even Dragonite's incredible durability wouldn't let it shrug off that kind of damage.
"Blaze..."
Blaziken sounded anxious.
Sure, it was great that Dragonite could win.
But once the battle ended, wouldn't it turn its attention to them?
Dragonite's self control only existed while there were enemies it hated more.
Once those enemies disappeared, Outrage would drive it to destroy everything in sight until it collapsed from exhaustion.
"Don't worry. You'll go stop it when that happens."
Silas didn't look nervous in the slightest. He even had the mood to tease Blaziken.
Blaziken rolled its eyes.
It enjoyed challenging powerful opponents.
It didn't enjoy committing suicide.
It would happily fight a Champion level Pokémon.
But a Dragonite that had entered the Tier Three Legendary realm?
No thanks.
"The Dragon Clan will be here soon. But we still need to make some preparations."
Silas closed Zero after finishing his notes and called his Pokémon together.
"Gallade, how are you holding up?"
Looking at Gallade, who hadn't suffered any injuries yet was breathing just as heavily as everyone else, Silas asked with concern.
Gallade gave him a strained smile.
"The Mental Power Ability..."
Silas's expression grew serious.
Dragonite's overwhelming strength, combined with its Dragon type aura, had turned its sheer mental pressure into something almost tangible.
Its Dragon Aura was practically on par with a Legendary Pokémon's Pressure Ability.
If Gallade hadn't possessed exceptionally strong mental strength as a Psychic type Pokémon, it would have already collapsed.
Even so, Gallade's condition was just as bad as Blaziken's, perhaps even worse.
"If necessary, I can teleport you out of here."
Gallade's voice echoed directly inside Silas's mind through telepathy.
"No. Not yet."
Silas refused without hesitation.
Just as Gardevoir could create a miniature black hole to protect its Trainer at the cost of its own life, Gallade, its alternate evolution, was capable of similar desperate sacrifices.
But the price was far too great.
No matter the circumstances, Silas never wanted his Pokémon to protect him that way.
"Here's what we'll do."
He began giving Blaziken instructions for one final contingency plan.
"Judging by the time they should be arriving soon."
Silas remained perfectly calm.
A stark contrast to the two poachers on the opposite side of the battlefield.
Caught in the clash between three overwhelmingly powerful Pokémon, the two Trainers without their Pokémon's protection were as insignificant as ants.
Their disguises had long since been torn away.
Their bodies were covered in wounds, and their clothes were practically in tatters.
The only fortunate thing was that they were still alive.
