That's right.
Just like the hidden cave behind Tohjo Falls, the entrance to the Dragon Sanctuary was hidden behind a waterfall.
Ordinary people and even most Pokémon would never think to look there. After all, such a thing was incredibly rare.
Come on.
The odds of there actually being a cave hidden behind a waterfall were unbelievably small.
Unless it had been artificially created.
At first, Silas hadn't intended for Gallade to investigate behind the waterfall at all.
Of course, using Psychic power to search an entire river wasn't realistic either.
Who knew how long that would take?
The technique Gallade had used earlier was the Psychic-type move Future Sight.
In battle, Future Sight was primarily used to anticipate an opponent's attacks or launch delayed strikes.
Outside of battle, however, the move had a rather unique application.
Simply put, as its name suggested, a Psychic Pokémon using Future Sight could glimpse fragments of events that would occur in the near future.
The stronger the user, the clearer and more detailed those glimpses became.
Otherwise, it would be like watching a heavily pixelated ultra-HD video, blurry beyond recognition and over almost as soon as it began.
An Advance level Gallade naturally couldn't see very much.
Still, locating an entrance was more than manageable.
If this weren't the Dragon's Den, where Dragon-type energy was so overwhelming that it interfered with Psychic perception, Gallade wouldn't have struggled nearly as much.
"Garchomp."
Garchomp firmly planted itself in front of the waterfall and shook its head at Silas.
No.
You really can't go in.
I'll be in serious trouble.
"How about this?" Silas suggested.
"I'll have the Guardian explain everything to your father. That way you won't get blamed."
He had no desire to fight Garchomp if he could avoid it.
Garchomp sighed.
Come on.
I'm not stupid.
Even if the Guardian steps in, do you think it can interfere with family discipline?
A father disciplining his son is none of the Guardian's business.
Even if its father gave the Guardian face at the time. Once they got home, the beating would still be unavoidable.
Besides, Garchomp couldn't afford to embarrass itself in front of all the female Garchomp in the clan.
How else was it supposed to continue happily courting them?
The two remained locked in a silent standoff beside the river.
Silas crossed his arms and simply stared at Garchomp without saying a word.
The roaring waterfall thundered endlessly.
Mist filled the surrounding air, making the temperature dramatically cooler than the scorching desert.
Little by little, Garchomp's spirits visibly declined.
It wasn't weak against Water-types.
However, as a Ground-type Pokémon, it absolutely hated damp environments like this.
That was one of the reasons its clan lived some distance away from the Dragon Sanctuary.
Dragon Pokémon like Dratini made their homes along the river beneath the waterfalls instead.
"How about this?"
Silas suddenly came up with another outrageous idea.
"You pretend Blaziken knocked you unconscious. Then I'll go in. Deal?"
This time, Garchomp hesitated.
It didn't immediately refuse.
Thinking about it, it's s father probably couldn't blame it anymore if that happened.
After all, it would have done its best to stop the intruder.
It simply...
Lost.
Wait.
Lost?
Garchomp suddenly realized something was wrong.
How could I lose to that little chicken?
It's not even two years old!
If I lost to it, I'd never live it down!
Reading its expression perfectly, Silas immediately added,
"Then Blaziken and Pidgeot teamed up against you."
"You lost a two-on-one fight."
"Garchomp!"
Garchomp nodded decisively.
Now that's acceptable.
Losing two against one isn't embarrassing.
What it didn't know was that Pidgeot was only a little over a year older than Blaziken.
It hadn't even celebrated its third birthday yet.
Even combined, the two Pokémon weren't anywhere near Garchomp's age.
So the situation wasn't actually much better.
Garchomp slowly spread its wings.
"Garchomp."
Go easy.
Just leave a mark.
I'll faint on my own.
Both Pidgeot and Blaziken were speechless after hearing that.
Blaziken silently prayed that the little Gible still inside the Egg wouldn't inherit its father's personality.
This wasn't merely embarrassing for dragons.
It was embarrassing for Pokémon in general.
A burst of Ember and a razor-sharp Air Slash struck Garchomp almost simultaneously.
"Garchomp! Garchooomp—!"
With an exaggerated howl toward the sky, Garchomp rolled dramatically across the ground, deliberately moving farther away from the water before collapsing onto a patch of rocky terrain.
Silas stared at its performance.
Its acting ability was practically nonexistent.
"Forget it."
"Let's go."
He decided not to comment.
Instead, he silently resolved to give the future Gible proper education after it hatched.
He definitely didn't want his future ace, one capable of rivaling Blaziken to grow into such a goofball.
Silas stepped toward the waterfall.
Invisible Psychic energy surrounded his body, allowing him to walk across the water as though it were solid ground.
Behind him, Blaziken and Pidgeot were already prepared.
Powerful Fire-type energy and razor-sharp Flying-type energy gathered around them.
They were no longer the inexperienced Pokémon who had first arrived in Johto.
They didn't need elaborate coordination anymore.
Simply unleashing their power together would be enough to split the waterfall for a brief moment.
Then, something unexpected happened.
Boom!
Two figures suddenly burst out through the waterfall.
Each of them was carrying something in their arms.
Silas immediately recognized them.
They were none other than Bu Zhidao and Bu Qing, who had been among the first group during the Three Dragon Trials.
So they're the ones causing all this...
No...
It should be all three of them.
Recalling the fake identities the three siblings had been using, Silas quickly understood.
The remaining man, Bu Jide, had either been abandoned or had stayed behind to cover their escape.
Although, in a place like this...
Covering the rear was basically the same thing as being abandoned.
The two people who had fallen into the river, Bu Zhidao and Bu Qing or rather, Pokémon Hunter R and Pokémon Hunter K also spotted Silas immediately.
"Damn it."
Both of them instantly realized things had gone south.
They had no idea how Silas had gotten here, but one thing was certain.
He wasn't an ally.
After quickly retreating to the riverbank once the two hunters appeared, Silas raised his voice.
"No need to hide. I've already seen you. This river doesn't lead anywhere anyway. Come out."
He spoke directly to the two dark silhouettes beneath the water.
Hunter R and Hunter K exchanged a glance.
As they surfaced, both reached for the Poké Balls at their waists.
"Come out! Venusaur, Victreebel, Exeggutor!"
"Go! Rapidash, Magmortar!"
As the Poké Balls burst through the surface of the water, five Pokémon of varying sizes gathered along the riverbank.
Silas quickly retreated, widening the distance between them.
"Five Elite-level Pokémon..."
"This could get troublesome."
His expression turned serious.
Even if Blaziken and Pidgeot could each handle two opponents, they wouldn't be able to end the battle quickly.
Not to mention he had no idea whether the hunters had any hidden tricks.
Looks like I'll have to eliminate the Trainers first.
His gaze shifted toward the two villains.
Then he froze.
At some point, an Alakazam had silently appeared beside them.
Silas couldn't help but describe it as vacant.
Normally, such a word would never be used for a Pokémon with intelligence as extraordinary as Alakazam's.
But its lifeless, empty eyes gave exactly that impression.
"An experimental subject..."
Silas's expression darkened immediately.
Having seen Team Rocket's experimental facility in Viridian Forest, he could easily imagine the kind of inhumane treatment this Alakazam had endured.
No matter the era he could never accept people like this.
They didn't deserve to live.
Unfortunately, that also meant his plan to take out the Trainers first had failed.
Although the Alakazam didn't seem capable of attacking on its own, its overwhelming Psychic power would be more than enough to shield the hunters.
What Silas couldn't understand was why it wasn't simply using Teleport to escape with them.
Perhaps the experiments had left it with severe aftereffects.
Silas didn't bother thinking about it any further.
"Garchomp."
Silas turned toward the prince Garchomp that had just appeared beside him.
"Can I leave that Magmortar to you?"
"Garchomp!"
Gone was its usual goofy demeanor.
Now Garchomp radiated pure killing intent.
People often underestimated Garchomp, but it was a born dragon warrior.
Every part of its body had evolved for battle, allowing it to unleash its full strength with unmatched efficiency.
With a sweep of its wing, Garchomp made its intentions clear.
Instead of facing only Magmortar as Silas had suggested, it also claimed Rapidash as its opponent.
As an Elite-level Pokémon, taking on two opponents at once was simply its pride as a Dragon-type.
Besides, Fire-type attacks weren't especially threatening to it.
"Fine."
"Then let's finish this quickly."
Silas didn't interfere with Garchomp's decision.
He believed the big dragon could handle it.
Besides, with Garchomp tying up two opponents, Blaziken and Pidgeot would only have to face three Pokémon together, allowing the battle to end much faster.
"What an arrogant brat."
Hunter K, the burly man, sneered.
He had no idea how strong Blaziken and Pidgeot really were.
In his eyes, there was no way his Pokémon could lose to a bunch of youngsters.
"Don't underestimate them," Hunter R warned.
"That Garchomp isn't weak."
Even so, her attention wasn't on Silas.
"Once we deal with them, we leave immediately."
"When we get back, Team Rocket is paying us extra."
"Damn it! Nobody told us there were monsters like those inside!"
Hunter K growled through gritted teeth.
It was obvious their experience inside the Dragon Sanctuary hadn't gone well.
Hunter R adjusted her jacket.
Hidden beneath it was a rack of test tubes.
Inside one of them was the objective they had come here to obtain.
"Venusaur, Grassy Terrain."
"Victreebel, Sleep Powder."
"Exeggutor, Seed Bomb."
Without another word, she immediately began issuing commands.
"Pidgeot, Hurricane!"
"Blaziken, Flamethrower!"
Ignoring Garchomp's battle for the moment, Silas focused entirely on the mysterious female Pokémon Hunter before him.
He had to admit, she had incredible nerve.
