A thought suddenly crossed Silas's mind.
"Would these two items be useful to you?"
He turned toward Pidgeot and asked.
As a Pokémon born with Elite Four-level potential, Pidgeot's only inherited move when it hatched had been Twister.
At the time, Silas hadn't thought much of it.
But as his studies deepened, he learned that under normal circumstances, a Pidgey could not inherit that move.
The only exception was if one of Pidgey's parents had been an exceptionally powerful Dragon-type Pokémon.
The strong Dragon-type energy allowed Pidgey not only to possess remarkable potential but also to master Twister, one of the weaker Dragon-type moves, at an unusually early age.
This wasn't exactly common.
After all, Dragon-type Pokémon were far rarer than most other Pokémon.
Then again, considering that Silas had obtained the Pidgey Egg in Viridian City, right on the edge of Viridian Forest, it wasn't entirely impossible.
Exactly what kinds of Pokémon lived deep within the vast Viridian Forest remained an unsolved mystery.
Silas wondered whether Pidgeot might be able to use the Dragon-type energy contained within the Dragon Fang and Dragon Scale to strengthen itself.
"Pidgeot."
Pidgeot looked at the Dragon Fang and Dragon Scale in Silas's hands and shook its head.
It could sense a familiar feeling emanating from the two items.
However, they couldn't help it become stronger.
More importantly, after having its body transformed by Ho-Oh's Sacred Fire and obtaining Champion-level potential, Pidgeot had already surpassed the stage where ordinary held items could significantly enhance it.
Even if these items had originally belonged to a Champion-level Dragon-type Pokémon, it wouldn't make much difference.
Besides, as a Normal/Flying-type Pokémon, even if the items worked slightly, the conversion efficiency would be terribly low.
It simply wasn't worth it.
"I see."
Silas nodded.
He wasn't particularly disappointed.
After all, he had only asked on a whim.
Besides, compared to Pidgeot, which merely possessed traces of Dragon-type bloodline influence, these items were obviously best suited for true Dragon-type Pokémon.
Both the Dragon Fang and Dragon Scale could greatly shorten the notoriously long growth period of Dragon Pokémon while also strengthening them further.
As a type-enhancing item, Dragon Fang genuinely increased the power of Dragon-type moves.
Silas had never expected such a casual exploration to yield such a tremendous reward.
"But if that's the case, then it doesn't really have much to do with the Gyarados Makuhita mentioned."
Silas thoughtfully rubbed the smooth Dragon Fang and Dragon Scale.
Although Gyarados had "dragon" in its name and was often regarded as a true dragon in ancient records, even after Mega Evolution it still wasn't a Dragon-type Pokémon.
That meant that even a Champion-level Gyarados shouldn't be capable of producing a Dragon Fang, a specialized Dragon-type enhancement item.
A Dragon Scale, however, was another matter.
Gyarados did possess traces of draconic heritage and had something akin to reverse scales.
Given enough strength and time, producing a Dragon Scale wasn't entirely impossible.
"The real question is what kind of Dragon-type Pokémon these two items originally came from."
Silas didn't rush to conclusions.
It wasn't because he lacked the necessary knowledge.
Dragon-type Pokémon were rare, which meant research papers about them were equally scarce.
However, thanks to his numerous connections, including two Pokémon Professors he had studied Dragon Pokémon extensively.
The problem was that these two Dragon-type items also carried faint traces of Flying-type energy, making them difficult to identify.
Dragonite, Altaria, Salamence, and even Noivern, which had only recently been discovered in Kalos were all Dragon/Flying-type Pokémon.
Thinking even further, the Sky High Pokémon Rayquaza was Dragon/Flying-type as well.
Silas quickly stored both the Dragon Fang and Dragon Scale back into his dimensional backpack.
Perhaps before long, they would finally have a chance to shine.
"Did you find anything else down there?"
He picked up Piplup and asked.
"Piplup! Piplup!"
Piplup vigorously shook its head.
There was nothing else.
It had only found those two items after digging them out from inside a rock.
The riverbed contained nothing but mud and aquatic plants.
There weren't even any Magikarp.
Silas wasn't greedy.
Soon, he rode Pidgeot back down the waterfall together with the two little Pokémon.
At Piplup's strong insistence, however, he returned it to its Poké Ball first.
According to Piplup, it had become tired from searching and wanted to rest.
Silas found the excuse amusing but granted the request anyway.
After all, Piplup could avoid flying today, but eventually it would have to get used to working at high altitudes on the backs of Flying-type Pokémon.
Maybe I'll have Togekiss help it adjust in the future, Silas thought while sitting on Pidgeot's back.
Togekiss is much steadier than Pidgeot.
When they returned to the cavern floor, Brock had already woken up despite staying up late.
A delicious aroma drifted through the area.
As an outstanding Pokémon Breeder, Brock was also an excellent cook, arguably even better than Silas.
"So, how did things go with that golden Magikarp from last night?"
Silas waved Pidgeot off to train on its own while casually chatting with Brock.
Brock's mood was excellent.
"Of course I caught it. Who do you think I am?"
He pointed toward a nearby patch of water.
"There it is."
Silas followed his finger.
A dazzling golden Magikarp floated blankly on the water's surface.
"It doesn't look particularly intelligent."
That was his evaluation.
Though, for a Magikarp, perhaps that was expecting too much.
Even Slowpoke were probably smarter than Magikarp, just slower to react.
Brock rolled his eyes.
"Get out of here. Stop bothering me while I'm making lunch."
Silas immediately laughed and apologized.
"Looks like I'm in for a treat today."
Nobuhiko approached while wiping his body with a pink towel.
"Finished training already, Nobuhiko?"
Silas greeted him.
From the moment Silas had woken up, Nobuhiko had been standing beneath the waterfall with his Fighting-type Pokémon.
He had remained there until now.
Silas genuinely had no idea how he managed it.
Even with Nobuhiko's physical conditioning, a normal human should have been surviving purely through willpower by that point.
Yet he looked completely fine.
Silas was thoroughly impressed.
Although his own physical fitness exceeded Nobuhiko's, he knew he couldn't endure something like that.
When it came to a martial artist's spirit, Nobuhiko surpassed him by a considerable margin.
Mainly because Silas had little interest in self-torture through waterfall training.
Though admittedly, it wasn't a bad training method.
"Gallade."
A thought occurred to him.
While he personally wasn't interested, his Pokémon might be.
Especially Gallade.
"Gallade?"
Gallade, who had been practicing sword strikes against empty air, instantly Teleported over with a confused expression.
Silas pointed toward the waterfall.
"You saw how Nobuhiko's Pokémon were training this morning, right? Want to give it a try?"
"Gallade!"
As soon as it understood what Silas meant, Gallade immediately nodded.
It had wanted to try it for a while already.
It simply hadn't done so because Silas hadn't given permission.
"I'd recommend starting over there first."
Nobuhiko pointed toward a section of the waterfall.
"Otherwise, the pressure will be too much for a little guy that's only at the Advance level."
The location he indicated featured an L-shaped rock protruding from the cliff face behind the waterfall, blocking a considerable portion of the impact.
"It's fine. Gallade can handle it."
Silas was extremely confident in response to Nobuhiko's warning.
Gallade also raised its elbow blades, indicating that it was fully capable.
Nobuhiko was about to say more, but then closed his mouth.
He suddenly remembered that most of Silas's Pokémon were somewhat, abnormal.
Perhaps this Gallade would surprise him as well.
Gallade didn't choose to use its psychic powers to fly directly beneath the waterfall.
Instead, it entered the water and slowly advanced step by step.
The closer it got to the waterfall, the stronger the current became.
Yet Gallade's seemingly slender legs remained firmly planted as it steadily moved forward.
Boom!
The thunderous roar of crashing water filled Gallade's ears.
Feeling the tremendous force nearby, its eyes shone with anticipation.
"Gallade."
It carefully used its psychic powers to gauge the waterfall's impact.
The blue-violet psychic energy touched the falling water and lasted only a few seconds before breaking apart into particles of light.
Manageable.
Gallade calmly reached its conclusion.
Without hesitation, it stepped into the waterfall from the side.
Its body immediately sank slightly.
In an instant, it felt the overwhelming power of nature.
The pressure coming from all directions and the pain throughout its body told it that this was not a place where one could remain comfortably.
Yet precisely because of that, Gallade's pride was stirred.
"Gallade!"
It struggled to straighten its body against the raging torrent.
"That's way too fast."
The corner of Nobuhiko's mouth twitched uncontrollably.
Under normal circumstances, an Advanced-level Pokémon should gradually adapt to this type of training.
First the L-shaped rock.
Then the weaker sections on the sides.
Only afterward should it challenge the center.
Gallade had skipped the first two stages entirely and gone straight to the hardest one.
Fortunately, Gallade didn't continue shocking Nobuhiko indefinitely.
Under the waterfall's relentless pressure, its straightened body soon bent once again.
"Blaziken, come over here."
Streams of data invisible to others flickered before Silas's eyes as he called over another partner.
"Blaze."
Blaziken immediately stopped its kicking exercise.
The instant it stopped, the boulder in front of it shattered completely.
Countless fragments of nearly identical size scattered across the ground, demonstrating Blaziken's perfect control over its strength.
And this was merely part of its daily training.
Silas casually pulled out a drawing board.
"Use Aura to tell Gallade to distribute its psychic power according to this pattern. These areas need to be reinforced with Strong Psychic energy, while this section should maintain roughly 1.3 times the normal intensity..."
Ignoring Nobuhiko's increasingly strange gaze, Silas rapidly sketched diagrams across the board.
Blaziken listened carefully, nodding from time to time.
Blue Aura light appeared within its eyes.
"I have to ask..."
Now fully dressed, Nobuhiko walked over beside Silas and stared at the densely packed diagrams.
"Your Pokémon can actually understand all this?"
Silas nodded as though it were completely natural.
"They can. I've been teaching them for a long time."
Nobuhiko revealed an awkward yet polite smile.
He couldn't exactly admit that even as the Trainer, he hadn't understood any of it.
Who in the world broke down training into something this complicated?
As someone who wasn't particularly theory-oriented, Nobuhiko found it extremely difficult to understand Silas's way of thinking.
Still, he understood one thing:
This was probably why Silas's Pokémon grew stronger so quickly.
Unfortunately, understanding that didn't help.
This wasn't a method normal people could learn or use.
Under Silas's guidance and Blaziken's Aura-assisted explanations, psychic power gradually spread across Gallade's body.
If measured by specialized instruments, they would reveal that each part of Gallade's body was receiving a different level of psychic reinforcement.
It was precisely this uneven distribution of psychic power that allowed Gallade to buffer the waterfall's impact.
Its body straightened once more.
The cost, however, was enormous.
Gallade's psychic energy was being depleted at an astonishing rate.
Splash!
After enduring for roughly half an hour, Gallade finally collapsed helplessly into the pool below.
Before Silas could even say anything, Serperior immediately extended its Vine Whip and pulled Gallade out.
While taking out various recovery items, Silas asked.
"How does it feel?"
"Excellent."
Gallade kept its eyes closed while adjusting its condition and managed a difficult reply.
Its body and mind were exhausted.
Yet it could clearly feel the benefits of this training.
Not only had its body improved under the constant pressure, but the process of fully exhausting its psychic power and then meditating afterward also accelerated its growth.
That visible progress was intoxicating.
"When everything here is finished, we'll come back and train for a while."
Silas quickly made his decision.
The simulation results provided by Zero were extremely tempting.
If Gallade underwent a month of specialized training here, it would approach the threshold of the Quasi-Elite level at astonishing speed.
It would also provide a good opportunity to train both Vulpix and Piplup.
As for his other Pokémon, steady accumulation remained the more suitable path.
"Lunch is ready!"
Brock called out loudly from the other side.
He had worked hard.
After all, there were quite a few people and Pokémon to feed.
"Get some rest."
Silas patted Gallade before heading toward the makeshift dining table.
While eating, he casually mentioned discovering the Dragon Fang and Dragon Scale.
Without exception, both Brock and Nobuhiko reacted with intense envy.
"Wait a second."
Compared to Nobuhiko, who was busy devouring food, Brock's mind was much quicker.
"If I remember correctly, isn't Blackthorn City's Dragon Ascension Ceremony coming up soon?"
His eyes widened.
"Don't tell me..."
He stared at Silas in surprise.
Silas grinned.
"During a mission a while back, I saved someone."
"They gave me a token that allows me to participate in the Dragon Ascension Ceremony."
