Chapter 366 - Chapter 366: Professor Oak’s Pokémon Lecture

The two quickly arrived at the first broadcasting studio on the fourth floor.

At the workstation, a red-haired intellectual-looking woman wearing glasses and a green sweater had already begun working.

This was Mary, Goldenrod Radio Tower's star host.

Her name was well known even in the Kanto region.

Of course, much of that was thanks to Professor Oak.

Because Professor Oak's Pokémon Lecture was conducted under Mary's hosting.

Every morning from 8:00 to 8:30, Professor Oak far away in Kanto, would connect remotely with Mary to provide more detailed educational commentary about Pokémon.

At first, Professor Oak had wanted to decline the invitation to host a radio program, but Mary's enthusiasm convinced him to start the show.

Naturally, it became the highest-rated daily program at the Goldenrod Radio Tower.

Because of this, it was only natural that the young Mary became the host of the fourth floor's primary broadcasting studio.

When Mary saw Whitney appear outside the studio, she maintained a smile while speaking with Professor Oak through her headset, yet simultaneously shot Whitney a fierce glare.

If Silas hadn't seen it with his own eyes, he wouldn't have believed someone could display two completely different expressions at the same time.

Whitney scratched her head awkwardly and pressed her palms together apologetically.

Inside the fully soundproof studio, Mary said something into the microphone, then removed her headset and stormed out, brimming with anger.

"Whitney!"

Her tone sounded ready to devour someone.

"You're forty minutes late!

It's only ten minutes from your Goldenrod Gym to here! And you told me an hour ago that you had already left!"

Mary was speechless.

Why did her best friend always manage to create trouble at the worst moments?

Today, she had finally convinced Professor Oak to extend the original thirty-minute program to a full hour.

A Pokémon Professor, especially a regional Professor was extremely busy.

Opportunities like this didn't come often.

She had planned everything out: an exchange between a Gym Leader and a Pokémon Professor would surely spark great discussion and enrich the program's content.

More importantly, the ratings would skyrocket.

After all, Whitney was also a fairly famous entertainer.

To make this happen, Mary had agreed to a series of highly unfair conditions Whitney proposed.

And yet, Whitney had practically stood her up.

There were only twenty minutes left in the program.

What could they possibly do in that time?

"Well… there was a small accident."

Whitney knew she was in the wrong and answered weakly.

"A… small accident?"

Mary emphasized the word "small" with deliberate force.

Whitney's eyes darted around nervously.

Silas suddenly had a bad feeling.

Sure enough, the next moment, Whitney pointed at him.

"It was him! He's the accident!"

Mary turned her gaze toward the handsome young man.

"Hello. You're Trainer Silas, right? It's a pleasure to meet you."

Her tone immediately became gentle and polite.

As a radio host, knowing well-known Trainers was part of her job and a necessary professional skill.

Although Silas's reputation in Johto wasn't enormous yet, it was more than enough to attract Mary's attention.

"Mary—"

"Quiet!"

Whitney tried to argue, but Mary instantly silenced her.

"I'm very sorry. Whitney can be a bit willful and caused you trouble."

Based on what Whitney had said earlier on the phone, the sharp-minded Mary could easily imagine what had happened.

"It's fine, it's fine. Leader Whitney is… unique."

Silas replied quickly.

To be honest, he had felt a slight bit of dissatisfaction earlier.

Anyone forced to carry the blame wouldn't be thrilled.

He wasn't exactly Whitney's fan, after all.

But since Mary put it that way, he couldn't say much more.

Clearly, she understood her friend's personality very well.

"Well then, since you're already here—would you be interested in joining today's program?"

Mary smiled as she extended the invitation.

Whitney's thinking hadn't been wrong.

Silas truly would make a perfect guest.

In that short moment, Mary had already conceptualized the tone of the program: Whitney, Silas, and Professor Oak together.

A famous Gym Leader.

A rising independent Trainer.

A renowned Pokémon Professor.

The combination was a blessing for ratings.

"Of course."

Silas considered briefly and agreed.

Reputation was important to him as well.

For example, in his cooperation with Violet City and Azalea Town, fame played a significant role.

Participating in Mary's program brought nothing but benefits.

And admittedly, he had a bit of mischievous curiosity too.

He wondered what Professor Oak's reaction would be when he suddenly heard his voice.

That would definitely be interesting.

"That's wonderful."

Mary couldn't hide her excitement.

"Please, come in."

The two quickly took their seats.

Whitney followed behind quietly and sat down as well.

"Alright, after that short musical break, we're back with more Pokémon knowledge. But this time, Mary has brought two new friends for our listeners.

Please introduce yourselves."

Back at work, Mary was like a completely different person compared to moments ago.

Her professional skill was one of the main reasons she had risen so quickly.

"Hi everyone! Good morning! I'm the Gym Leader of Goldenrod Gym—the cutest, most invincible Whitney! I'm so happy to see you all again!"

Whitney smoothly introduced herself.

Outside the window, the assistant's raised hand signals indicated that ratings had already risen significantly just from that one sentence.

As expected of Whitney.

Mary sighed internally, her friend truly had strong appeal.

If not for her personality quirks, she would be practically flawless.

What Mary didn't realize was that many fans loved Whitney precisely because of that personality.

"Hello everyone. I'm Silas from Viridian City in Kanto."

It was Silas's first time on a broadcast, and he wasn't completely relaxed.

But his youthful voice instantly painted the image of a bright, energetic young Trainer in the listeners' minds.

"Silas, my boy?!"

Professor Oak had just finished his tea and leisurely walked over to his computer when he suddenly heard a familiar name and voice.

He asked in surprise, "When did you arrive in Goldenrod City?"

"Just got here yesterday! Good morning, Professor Oak!"

Silas greeted him with a cheerful smile.

This sense of surprise was exactly what he had wanted.

"Some of our listeners may not know Trainer Silas very well. He's a grassroots prodigy from the Kanto region.

During his very first year of traveling last year, he reached the Top 16 of the Indigo League's open-format tournament, narrowly losing to the eventual Champion.

Many powerful Trainers, even members of the Elite Four have spoken highly of him!"

Mary quickly pieced together a more vivid image of Silas for the audience based on her memory.

"And it seems Professor Oak is quite familiar with Silas as well."

Without drawing attention to it, she smoothly shifted the focus back to the main star of today's program.

After all, this was Professor Oak's Pokémon Lecture. Professor Oak was naturally the lead; no matter how famous the guests were, they were supporting roles.

"Of course. Silas has also achieved remarkable results in the study and even research, of Pokémon knowledge."

Professor Oak did not hesitate to praise him.

And he was simply stating the truth.

"Oh? What kind of Pokémon research?"

Mary asked, even though she already knew.

"It concerns new evolutions of Eevee.

As we all know, Eevee was originally known to evolve into three types: Water-type Vaporeon, Fire-type Flareon, and Electric-type Jolteon.

But through Silas's research, we discovered the existence of a Grass-type evolution, Leafeon, and an Ice-type evolution, Glaceon.

These two Pokémon specialize in—"

Professor Oak spoke fluently, enthusiastically explaining.

What might have been dry academic knowledge became fascinating under his animated delivery.

The other three occasionally chimed in with their own perspectives, and the entire program flowed smoothly without the slightest awkwardness.

"As a Trainer, Silas, have you recently caught any new Pokémon? Would you mind sharing with us?"

After finishing one topic, Mary naturally introduced another.

"Of course."

Silas nodded, growing more comfortable by the moment.

"Gaining new partners is one of the meanings of a Trainer's journey.

Recently, I caught a Psychic-type Ralts."

"Wow, that's quite a rare Pokémon!"

Mary exclaimed.

It wasn't that she was especially envious.

After all, she herself had once partnered with a Psychic-type Drowzee.

Later, due to work-related reasons, she exchanged Pokémon with a fan, and her partner became Meowth instead.

"Ralts, huh? That's not easy at all,"

Professor Oak remarked.

"Is that so?" Mary asked curiously.

"That's right. As everyone knows, Psychic-type Pokémon possess extremely sensitive mental powers.

They can perceive human emotions—joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness.

When encountering Psychic-type Pokémon, we must communicate with them sincerely from the heart. Only then do we have a chance of making them our partners."

The familiar formula once again.

Yet under Mary's guidance and Professor Oak's vivid explanations, even such simple advice became captivating.

Silas remembered listening to this very program as a child.

Pallet Town was close enough to Johto that the signal could reach it.

The Goldenrod Radio Tower staff watched the real-time listener count steadily climb and couldn't stop grinning.

This year's bonus was definitely going to increase.

Looking at the incoming messages backstage, one staff member pondered.

This boy named Silas seemed incredibly popular.

After a quick count, he found that eighty percent of the comments expressed admiration for Silas.

As expected, he sighed internally.

A handsome and capable young man really appeals to all ages.

"Hm… I wonder if we could invite him to be a recurring guest."

The station's upper management was also paying attention to the program.

One of them voiced an idea.

"Since the audience likes him so much, why don't we arrange an additional program featuring Mary and this young man Silas?"

"That might be difficult. He seems fully devoted to the Trainer profession. But perhaps we could produce one or two special episodes to boost ratings."

"Agreed. That would keep costs lower. A long-term arrangement might risk audience fatigue."

In just a few exchanges, they had outlined a rough plan.

"We shouldn't skimp on compensation. Build a good relationship with him. If he becomes a member of the Elite Four in the future, it would be wonderful to have him return as a guest."

"Exactly."
