Chapter 44 - Chapter 44

Outside the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Vegeta waited with the others amid an uncomfortable silence. Fortunately, the pathetic drunk had made enough coffee for everyone there to drink and distract themselves until the girls returned. Considering that the door to that dimension was closed, activating its time dilation, it wouldn't be long before they returned.

Still, that didn't change the fact that all eyes were on Vegeta, and he hated that kind of attention, as if he were some kind of rare species... even if he was exactly that.

Vegeta had had enough of this nonsense back in Frieza's army.

At least, the hatred and distrust these people felt towards him had diminished considerably, being replaced with fascination, curiosity, and a little bit of fear.

Considering everything that had happened inside that room and the way he had destroyed their sense of normality, such a reaction was inevitable.

If anything, it was a miracle that no one here had gone mad.

That aside, what was really bothering Vegeta, aside from the fact that these people hadn't left yet, was what had happened between Weiss and him.

Even now, he could still feel the touch of that girl's delicate hands, the warmth of her slender body despite the coldness of her power, and the softness of her lips...

Just thinking about it stirred his heart in a way that only fighting to the death should.

With that, there was no doubt in Vegeta's mind that he liked Weiss much more than he had initially imagined.

It wasn't without reason, however.

Weiss was not only ridiculously beautiful, but she also had the potential to be much more than her species was destined to be.

In Vegeta's eyes, this girl could be the perfect partner for a Saiyan, and he couldn't wait to start polishing her talent!

Without realizing it, he was even smiling, and this didn't go unnoticed by those watching his every move.

Winter smiled back, knowing that her little sister was the reason for such an expression.

Weiss was that special, and it was good to know that Vegeta recognized that fact.

For the others, the only thought in their minds was that for an alien, Vegeta seemed strangely human. His power, on the other hand, was proof of his extraterrestrial origins.

That and all the destruction present in the world outside.

Merely thinking about it was enough to sour the mood of those who dedicated their lives to protecting Remnant.

However, not one of them let such negative feelings influence their opinions of Vegeta, especially when there was a chance that all this destruction could be undone in three months.

While they still had no idea how he intended to do that, after everything Vegeta had shown them, doubting him didn't seem like a very smart thing to do.

Especially when they had no other options.

Even if Vegeta was lying, there was nothing they could do about it.

The difference in power between them was that big, and no one there wanted this man as Remnant's true enemy.

For that reason, Ozpin, Glynda, and Qrow saw Weiss as some kind of savior who deserved to be recognized as such.

In fact, considering how important this girl had just become to Remnant, granting her a Huntress license seemed like too little. If anything, she deserved a position of power equal to that of a Council Member or Headmaster.

Something to consider, especially now that a vacancy had opened up in Haven.

Speaking of her, the door to that dimension opened, and Weiss emerged alongside her teammates.

The first thing everyone noticed, besides how quickly this conversation had been, was Weiss's appearance.

Even now, she remained in her golden mode, shining like the most beautiful star in the night sky. Just as expected, she remained a mesmerizing sight, but unfortunately, the annoyed expression on her beautiful face broke the fantasy.

Considering how Ruby and Yang were clinging to her, each hanging on one of her arms and fighting like children for her attention, Weiss's reaction was more than justified.

As for Blake, she was further back, keeping her distance to avoid getting caught up in the ongoing conflict. While this was a sensible choice, it was clear that a tangle of emotions was influencing her actions. In a way, it seemed as if nothing had changed after their conversation, and that raised questions.

Unfortunately, this was not the place or time for them to interfere, especially when a scene familiar to Qrow was unfolding.

"No!" Ruby was glaring at her sister, her silver eyes shining with divine power. "Weiss is my best friend, and I won't give her to you!"

That being said, she tried to pull Weiss toward her, but to no avail, as she was unable to move her from the spot.

Just as expected, her best friend was on a completely different level now!

"Oh, come on, Ruby!" Yang was smiling, but the red in her eyes betrayed her true feelings. "It's not like I'm stealing her from you!"

Sometimes, she forgot how dramatic and stubborn her spoiled little sister could be... something they had in common.

"No!" Ruby repeated and unleashed even more power, soon entering her super mode to make rose petals appear like a storm inside the house and still be unable to move Weiss from her spot. "We always share everything, but I'm not going to share my best friend!"

Especially now that they were no longer children!

As for the others in the room, they had to raise their arms to protect themselves from these petals that looked like sharp blades and a red aura that felt dangerously familiar, but only until Vegeta dispersed Ruby's power with nothing more than a glance.

Regardless of how disappointed they were with this girl for her lack of self-control, her ability was still surprising, proving that Weiss was not the only entity of power born in Remnant.

However, unlike her teammate, Ruby wasn't proving herself worthy of a high-level position and authority. In fact, Ozpin was even connecting this girl to the Red Calamity, and he wasn't the only one to reach that conclusion if the expressions of disbelief on Glynda and Qrow's faces meant anything.

While he wasn't sure if she had a hand in all that destruction, the possibility was real and couldn't be ruled out.

How disappointing.

The mother was a hero who saved countless lives, and the daughter was a brat without control who killed countless people.

Ozpin regretted making an exception and recruiting Ruby Rose early on just because of her eyes.

As if that weren't enough, he had even appointed her as team leader when there were better options available.

His intention in putting Ruby in a position of responsibility had always been to force her to grow, both in skill and mental maturity, and to catch up with her teammates.

It was a tremendous lapse in judgment on his part, and while it wasn't the first in his long life, it was certainly one of the biggest.

At least Ozpin took comfort in knowing that the method itself wasn't to blame, as it had worked with Jaune Arc and others before him.

Hopefully, Vegeta would be able to succeed where Ozpin had failed and teach Ruby Rose to use her power responsibly.

"That's rich coming from you!" Yang wasn't fazed by her little sister's superior power and responded with her own Semblance, if only to be able to hold her ground. "Especially after you got all excited about..."

She didn't finish, as Weiss stopped her by covering her mouth at the last second, and for good reason.

Vegeta couldn't hear a word about what they were planning behind his back!

"Th-that's different!" Ruby calmed down a little, recognizing the hypocrisy behind her tantrum. "I was just happy for you, since..."

Again, what she was about to reveal was interrupted by Weiss, who was regretting her decision.

These girls just had no sense of time and place!

With that, Weiss had the mouths of this pair of sisters sealed by her hands and didn't know what to do as she became the center of attention.

"Err, sorry about that," she began with a nervous smile, trying to avoid the curious eyes of her beloved. "Every now and then, these two get overly excited."

A sister thing, apparently, but one that Weiss couldn't understand given the more serious and respectful relationship she had with Winter.

"It's quite all right." Ozpin decided not to address his concerns and to trust this girl who was taking on the role of leader. "If anything, it's good to know that you're getting along."

Relatively speaking, considering the scene before him, but Team RWBY tended to be eccentric like that.

In response, Weiss let go of Yang and Ruby, both of whom realized the magnitude of the scene they were making and let out a small nervous laugh as they calmed their powers.

The last thing they wanted was to disappoint Vegeta... even more.

"Now, with that out of the way." Ozpin turned his attention to the Saiyan Prince, and the look he was showing could rival Glynda's during her classes, promising nothing but discipline to these girls. "I wish to know about your intentions going forward, especially with these students."

After all, he needed to appease the concerns and doubts of their family members, including those present in the room.

"As you may have noticed, I have taken Weiss and Ruby as students." Vegeta didn't mind answering this question, wanting to get rid of these people and return to his training as soon as possible. "I also intend to extend my teachings to the other two."

This made Yang and Blake jump, almost as much as their hearts.

They already knew that Vegeta had talked about training them, but receiving confirmation like this always excited them.

Even if equaling Weiss was nothing more than a distant dream, both in power and beauty, they could be an essential part of the team again!

"For that reason, they need to stay here," Vegeta continued without giving them a chance to speak. "At least for now."

Something that had already been arranged, with all of their belongings set in their new rooms.

"I can understand why the princess is here," Qrow began, still in denial about the possibility that Ruby had caused the Red Calamity. "Why do you need the others?"

There was a romantic motive on his mind, but it was one he didn't want to remotely consider and, thankfully, didn't include his youngest niece.

"Just look at Weiss, and you have your answer." Vegeta pointed out the obvious, where this girl's divine appearance said it all. "Even now, she continues to release enough power to destroy this entire world."

He couldn't have someone like that walking around outside, especially after what Ruby had done and the people she had killed by accident.

That gave everyone there pause, processing what had just been said.

"P-power to destroy the world?" Weiss repeated as she let go of her teammates, her voice sounding shaky, and for good reason. "Me?"

This had to be a joke, because there was no way she could be capable of something like that... right?

The mere fact that this man was not someone who wasted time on such nonsense was already an answer to her question, but his confirmation served to illustrate just how ridiculously fast her growth had been.

"The amount of power in your body is more than enough to destroy a small planet like Remnant." Vegeta would know, having tested this extensively back in his days in Frieza's army. "Although, you would have to focus all that power and release it at once to have such a result."

Something she shouldn't be capable of, but you never know given what Ruby had done the other day.

Once again, this revelation had left the others speechless as they looked at Weiss with mixed emotions, including the other members of Team RWBY.

Instinctively, with the exception of Ruby and Winter, everyone else took a step back when they saw more than just the beauty of this girl shining golden.

At the same time, it also raised questions about Vegeta's ability.

The power Weiss was showing was nothing more than a drop in comparison to the ocean the prince had shown during his transformations.

With that in mind, didn't that mean Vegeta could destroy the entire solar system if he wished?

Who knows, maybe even the galaxy wasn't beyond the limits of his power!

"I... see," Ozpin had a drop of sweat running down his face along with a forced smile. "If that is indeed true, then there is nothing that can be done."

If anything, he should be thankful that Vegeta had enough responsibility to guide and contain Weiss's power.

Even if it was his fault in the first place.

Proving once again that he wasn't a bad person, and that was a relief.

"You don't need to worry about it," Vegeta continued, soon looking at Winter and Qrow. "But you are welcome to check on them at any time."

This was his way of showing goodwill to the leaders of this planet... even if that didn't include this Wizard.

"Good to know." Ozpin was satisfied with that answer, even sensing a decrease in this man's hostility towards him, which made him feel more comfortable with what he had to say next. "Now, while I know you've promised to undo all this chaos, can I continue to count on your help?"

There was still much to be done and people to save around the world.

"Even if you hadn't asked, that's exactly what I intend to do." Vegeta was no longer a selfish monster and was more than capable of helping when needed. "After all, it will serve as training for the girls and a lesson in responsibility."

Which was ironic, coming from him and the chaos he had caused, but not when it involved Ruby Rose.

Rubbing salt in the wound was necessary, especially when she had just released her power in front of other people without caring about the consequences.

This girl still had a long way to go.

"Now, with that out of the way," Vegeta cooled his expression and made the air heavy with his colossal power. "Get the hell out of my house, all of you."

It took them a moment to register what had just been said, but when they did, an instinctive chill ran down their spines, and for good reason.

Vegeta might not be a bad person, but the same might not be true after he lost his patience, and no one there seemed interested in finding out.

"Very well." Ozpin let out a small sigh and smiled amusedly at the situation, considering Vegeta's threat as something tempting that could free him from his curse. "I will leave you with your students and training."

With that said, he stood up and headed toward the exit, with Glynda being the only one to follow him closely.

Qrow and Winter hesitated as they looked at the members of their families who would be left behind, concern etched on their expressions even though they knew they could return to check on their well-being later.

"It's okay," Weiss said to her sister as she let go of her power and returned to being the same girl she always was. "I'll keep training, improving, and before you know it, all the Grimm will be gone, and the world will become a better place."

And that wasn't a promise because she intended to make it a reality.

"Weiss..." Winter was speechless for a moment, but soon smiled with pride as she took a step forward and held this girl in her arms, which was an extremely rare display of affection in their family. "No matter what you do from now on, know that I am proud of you."

Just as an older sister should.

This made Weiss's blue eyes shine with tears as she returned the embrace.

"Thank you," she murmured softly, then suddenly remembered something important. "Later, when you come to visit again, there's something I need to discuss with you."

Weiss couldn't forget the plans she had for her annoying little brother and the future of Remnant.

Part of Winter wanted to joke and ask if her little sister was pregnant, but the mere possibility was frightening, and she didn't want to think about it. With that in mind, she just nodded in response before bowing toward Prince Vegeta and making her exit.

After everything she had learned that day, Winter had a lot to report to General Ironwood.

Right next to her, Qrow was saying his temporary goodbyes to his nieces while showing a mixture of emotions as he looked at Ruby.

Part of him wanted to bring up the subject that he couldn't get out of his mind and ask if she had anything to do with the Red Calamity, but he couldn't.

Qrow was afraid of the truth and preferred to continue blaming Vegeta.

Considering that he drank to escape reality, this was nothing new, and even if it was pathetic, it didn't matter.

Ruby, the purest girl in the world, hadn't killed thousands of people, and no one could convince him otherwise.

"I'll talk to Tai and explain the situation to him." Qrow stroked his niece's hair and gave her a comforting smile. "So don't worry and keep training, or whatever."

If there was a chance for them to grow as strong as Weiss and become pillars that would protect Remnant from creatures like Vegeta, then it was best for them to give it their all.

"Yes, sir!" was all the pair of sisters had to say as they saluted, the playful tone ever present.

With that, Qrow followed Winter, but not without looking at the prince one last time and moving his lips to say something without using his voice.

"Hurt them, and I'll kill you, even if I have to sell my soul to the devil."

Vegeta could only smile in response, amused and tempted to say that the devil was already dead after being turned into a cookie and devoured.

Either way, the unwanted visitors were gone, and now it was time to return to training.

There was much to be done.
