ASSAULT ON U.A.!

From the Perspective of a Student

Sunday 7th May 2226

U.A.

The Ultra Academy for Heroics.

Widely considered as the most prestigious high school in all of Asia, possibly even the world, U.A. is an international powerhouse renowned for their training of Pro Heroes, past, present and future. Despite having been responsible for the education and training of current stars, such as the World's Symbol of Peace and Justice, All Might (Rank: #1, Peak: #1) and the Pro Hero with the most incidents resolved in history, the Flame Hero: Endeavor (Rank: #2, Peak: #2), as well as some of the greatest Pro Heroes of the past, including The Chivalrous Hero: Crimson Riot (Peak: #7) and the Shadow Hero: Dark Crystal (Peak: #4), U.A has remained largely shrouded in mystery with regards to its practices.

With a reputation for 'non-traditional' teaching and the level of importance seemingly placed upon them by the Hero Public Safety Commission (HPSC), U.A. has remained largely a mystery when it comes to its internal affairs, with even the most serious of incidents covered by staff, students and seemingly everybody else.

Until now.

News coverage was interrupted this Friday afternoon, (5th May 2226), when police and other emergency services were called to U.A. to attend the staff and students, following reports of an attack on school grounds. Given the private location and the involvement of what has been presumed to be several students, U.A. has been able to effectively stamp out the discussion and leave us with only hypotheticals, conspiracies and guesses of what really happened. With a media ban essentially in place, redacting student names and staff members refusing to comment, there has been no real word of what has occurred within their walls, beyond their simple statement:

'On the morning of Friday, the fifth of May 2226, U.A. was subject to a small incursion. The trespassers were dealt with quickly and then removed from the premises by members of the local police force. Two members of staff were taken to the hospital for injuries but have since been given permission to return to the school. One student was injured as a result of using their own Quirk. A security review will be undertaken in the following days and classes will be temporarily suspended for one week while upgrades are implemented. They will resume next Monday without further issue'.

The statement is short, factual and does an excellent job of telling us nothing about what actually happened. Instead, the U.A. media team have assured us that nothing like it will happen again, without ever telling us what 'it' was.

How fortunate then, that Flamebird has an inside source.

From the inside of the Ultra Academy, Flamebird has managed to reach out to one of the students involved in the conflict and they have agreed to provide us with their own written statement of what occurred that day. For reasons of maintaining their privacy, the student has requested that their name, age, Quirk and classes not be mentioned.

Note: The following interview was transcribed by Mr. Justice and has been published with the permission of the student and their legal guardian.

J = Mr. Justice

S = Student

J: So, first off, thank you for agreeing sit down with us.

S: It's no problem. How do we start?

J: Well, why don't you tell me, in your own words, how did your day start? Did it seem 'off' to you?

S: Honestly, no. It didn't feel any different from any other day. We all showed up, went to class, took our seats and then the day started. You know what school looks like: homeroom, papers, pens, pencils. I spoke with my friends, we planned out what we might do in the afternoon and over the weekend, and then, right in the middle of class, we heard Principal Nezu's voice come over the PA system.

J: Principal Nezu? You're sure it was him?

S: Definitely - he has a very distinct voice.

J: What did he say?

S: I remember his exact words. They were, 'All teachers, report to the staff car park area immediately. Class representatives, please keep all students in their classrooms until we return. That is all'.

J: And that's it? That's all you were told?

S: Yes, that's all we were told. Not that anything was happening, just that the teachers were needed elsewhere for a moment, and then they were gone.

J: They just left their students alone?

S: They did. My teacher handed over the classroom to the class representative and their deputy, and then they were gone.

J: Did you see them leave the building?

S: Not exactly.

J: What do you mean by, 'not exactly'?

S: Well, out of the classroom windows, one of my classmates saw what looked like an armoured people carrier driving away from the school's main building at top speed, but that was it. We didn't see anything other than that, and it was all quiet.

J: Right. So, tell me, your teachers have left. There's no adult supervision about in any form. What happens next?

S: Well, we all just sat there for a few minutes, enjoying the reprieve from talking about our assignment, and then, the next thing we knew, that thing was there.

J: That thing?

S: The guy who brought it called it the Humanite. It looked like some sort of movie monster. It looked like a gorilla - a really big one - but instead of having fur, it had this kind of glossy skin-

J: Glossy skin?

S: Yeah, it was like - have you ever gotten ink on your skin?

J: Ink? From a pen?

S: Exactly like that! It looked like that had happened to it, but all over its body. It had these massive muscles, but the worst part of it all was its brain.

J: Its brain?

S: Yeah, it's brain.

J: And how was that the worst part?

S: Because you could see it! Bulging out the top of its skull. It wasn't just some gorilla. It looked like some sort of monster.

J: It was sticking out?

S: YES! The brain pushed up out of its skull, sticking out and its pulsed, like it had a heartbeat. I feel sick just thinking about it.

J: What else can you tell me about it?

S: It was strong - stronger than anything I've seen before. It was fast. It was just unstoppable.

J: And it was there to kill.

S: Yes, it was.

J: How did the staff know to stop it.

S: They didn't.

J: So how was this monster-

S: Nomu. The man who dropped it off called it a Nomu. 'I am Kurogiri of the League of Villains, This is the Nomu known as Humanite', he said, 'sadly for you, young students, your first look upon it will be the last thing you ever see', and then he was gone.

J: It was just dropped off?

S: Yeah, some guy made of smoke opened a portal to let himself in, made that… introduction, and then walked back out. The portal disappeared, but he left that Nomu behind. I was supposed to kill us.

J: But you've already said that your teachers didn't stop it, so I have to ask you, how are you still alive?

S: We got out of there, but just barely.

J: Can you tell us what happened?

S: They appeared outside of our class, right outside the window, before it attacked. One of our classmates held it off, while others went to help. They managed to hold it at bay for a while, before some of the upperclassmen showed up.

FLAMEBIRD NOTE: For reasons relating to privacy and legality, the students cannot be identified or named.

J: And they defeated it?

S: Four of them, working together. Three of them were beating it, while another one bound it all up. It thrashed about, and kept fighting them, but they were able to hold it for a while, until the police showed up. They took over then.

J: So, your teachers - the Pro Heroes of U.A. - they didn't show up at all.

S: Not until everything was over, no.

J: So that was it, then. Just like that, it was over.

S: It wasn't just like that. The fight was horrible. They tore up part of the grounds. There was a lot of damage, and I know that they got hurt.

J: Who got hurt? The students?

S: Yeah. At least one of them was seen to by the paramedics on scene.

J: Do you know if they were taken away to a hospital?

S: No, I think the school nurse, [the Youthful Heroine: Recovery Girl (Rank: #206, Peak: #101)] treated everyone on scene.

J: Before we wrap this up, is there anything else we need to know?

S: No. Nothing I can think of at this time.

(The interview finishes at this point, with no further audio recorded).

The events of the U.A. Assault, as described by our source, paint a disturbing picture of what happened on the morning of May 5th. While much still remains open to speculation, the immediate questions that arise from this ordeal are clear:

1). Why was U.A. targeted?

2). Where did this 'Nomu' known as Humanite come from?

3). Who sent it?

4). And perhaps the most concerning of all lingers - why did the teachers of U.A. think it was acceptable to abandon all of their students at such a critical moment?

The absence of Pro Hero intervention at any point leads us to conclude that this was either: a deliberate tactical decision; or a catastrophic lapse in judgment. Was leaving the students open to danger a moment of oversight that simply shouldn't have happened or is something more sinister afoot.

Where those students deliberately abandoned?

With the knowledge that a second incident was occurring with the U.A. boundary, it seems unlikely that the staff of U.A., each member of which is a Pro Hero, could have been caught off-guard by the second attack. Where these students left out as bait?

Or sacrificial lambs?

Remember, no Pro Heroes came to their aid.

The presence of a warp-gate user adds further complications to matters. Instances of such Quirks occurring throughout history are rare and often cited as being difficult to control. To have one involved in the attack, not only willing, but able to move about U.A. with precision, can only suggest the level of planning and co-ordination that we find in organised groups, rather than those belonging to a lone villain.

Just who led this attack?

This is a question that remains unknown.

If this creature, the 'Humanite', was truly meant to kill the students, then the intent behind this attack was not merely a test of U.A.'s defences - this was an attempt at mass assassination.

But against whom?

With student names withheld, we can only speculate whether a specific target existed, or if this was a general act of terror. The fact that upperclassmen successfully restrained the Humanite suggests to options: one, that the villains underestimated their opponents; or two, they had other goals in mind.

Was this attack intended as a distraction? A message? Or something else entirely?

And what must we think of U.A.'s response?

Asia's premier school for heroics has remained frustratingly tight-lipped about what happened that day. Their brief statement lacks the transparency we expect from an institution devoted to heroism. If students were forced to fight for their lives without any assistance from their teachers, then questions must be asked about U.A.'s security protocols, about their crisis response.

And about their priorities.

For now, the attack on U.A. remains shrouded in secrecy, but we can safely say that one thing is clear - this was not a random attack. This was planned.

This was deliberate.

Has a new group of villains emerged, or was this simply a coalition of like-minded individuals?

We're afraid that referring the Humanite as 'a Nomu', implies that more exist; that the presence of a still unidentified warping Quirk gives them the potential to strike at any time; and that the absence of the entirety of U.A.'s staff all point to there being a larger plot at play.

But regardless, as long as the fires of justice continue to burn, rest assured that Flamebird will continue to investigate.
