Blood poured from the bullet hole in his forehead.
"Huff... Huff..."
In stark contrast to Karl, who remained composed and unfazed after pulling the trigger, Senno Arasaka looked as if he had just been unburdened of a massive weight.
He was panting heavily, slumping back into his seat.
All he'd done was pull the trigger once, and yet he looked utterly exhausted.
Sweat beaded on his face—almost instantaneously. His expression shifted rapidly, filled with conflicting emotions.
Senno stared at Saburo's corpse—the monster he had waited half a century to finally kill. His face was consumed by disbelief.
Saburo Arasaka is dead?
Just like that?
Even though he had planned and anticipated every step, now that it had actually happened, it still felt like a dream.
Was this real?
Had he truly killed that Saburo Arasaka?
"Nice shot," Karl remarked calmly, as if it had all gone exactly as expected.
"Just what I had in mind."
He looked at Senno with a faint smile.
"But I fired first. So the kill's mine."
Senno blinked at Karl's beaming face.
In that moment, all the tension and emotion he'd been holding in seemed to evaporate.
After catching his breath, he looked at Karl and said, "Was that so I wouldn't feel guilty about killing my own kin? Don't worry—I was ready. That bastard was nothing more than a monster to me."
"No," Karl replied, casually spinning Eternal Night in his hand.
"I said that because he was a monster."
"When you're taking down monsters, you gotta keep the kill count straight."
His tone was deadly serious—like he meant every word.
Senno, moved by Karl's expression, let out a dry laugh.
"You really are that meticulous, huh? Can't even let me steal a kill."
Then he smiled. "Alright then. The infamous Karl—it was you. You killed Saburo Arasaka."
"No. Not me."
Karl shook his head.
He inserted a facial mod chip, and his appearance shifted.
"KK's just a regular merc. No way a guy like him could kill someone like Saburo Arasaka."
Senno stared at the now-familiar face, confused. "Then who are you?"
"Militech Intelligence Division," Karl said, pointing at his own face.
"Name's unchanged. Allen."
"So we're back to that name again?"
With the weight finally lifted from his chest, Senno's voice turned more relaxed, almost sarcastic.
"So what's the story behind that name?"
"Just some nobody who OD'd," Karl said. "Completely average. But he had a dream—to be remembered. To make his name known to the world."
He gestured with Eternal Night.
"And I owed him. A debt I couldn't forget. When the time came, I had to pay it back."
"That must've been one hell of a favor."
"A debt the size of the sky."
Hearing Karl say that with absolute sincerity, Senno nodded.
"Then yeah, you had to repay it. Still..."
He glanced down at Saburo's lifeless body.
"Not many people are going to believe this happened. Just like no one in Arasaka will believe a Militech agent assassinated Saburo right in front of our eyes."
"Let them believe what they want."
Karl looked down at the corpse of the old emperor.
"Saburo Arasaka is dead. And Allen..."
He touched his face again, shifting it back.
"Allen is right here."
"Yeah... Allen is right here."
Senno turned his gaze toward the bathroom.
Militech Intelligence Division. Agent.
He stood up, walked to Saburo's body, and knelt down to confirm the death. Then he activated his AI access protocol.
"I'm locking down the entire hotel."
A synthetic female voice echoed from the room's smart system:
"May I ask the reason?"
Watching Karl drag bodies out of the bathroom, Senno answered:
"Arasaka..."
He paused mid-sentence, then corrected himself:
"My father has been murdered."
Almost immediately, the suite's lights dimmed. Red emergency lights began to flash.
"Red Alert activated."
All of Konpeki Plaza echoed with the sound of alarms.
"We regret to inform you that Konpeki Plaza is now under full Red Alert lockdown.
Please remain in your rooms and comply with all hotel staff instructions."
The message blasted throughout the building—clear and unmistakable—reaching even the four bodyguards waiting downstairs for the meeting to conclude.
"Red Alert?" V muttered.
But even as he said it, he already knew.
Karl pulled it off.
Oliver's voice came through the comms next.
Jackie, ever cautious, quickly cut in:
"Still unconfirmed. Don't use the channel just yet. Let's get upstairs first and check. After all..."
He glanced at Takemura Goro—who had gone rigid upon hearing the words "Red Alert."
There's still one of Saburo's dogs right here.
Takemura, however, no longer paid them any mind.
He'd already felt something was off earlier.
But now—now that the Red Alert had sounded—his dread had reached its peak.
Only a handful of people had the clearance to trigger a full lockdown of Konpeki Plaza.
As far as he knew, only two people could do that: Lord Saburo... and Senno Arasaka.
So if the alarm was active—
It had to be one of them.
But who?
Takemura hadn't received any command from Saburo.
In any other emergency, Saburo would've summoned him instantly.
But this time—nothing.
As the alarms blared louder, a terrible realization gripped his heart.
Could it be...?
An unthinkable, impossible idea wrapped its claws around Takemura Goro's mind.
