Over the phone, Charlotte Shaw could feel her mother's dissatisfaction. She was already feeling wronged by her brother, and hoped to get some comfort from her mom, but instead, her mom added to her frustration.
"You're just protecting him. Sooner or later, he'll be so spoiled by you." Not being treated fairly, Charlotte was fuming.
"How is your brother spoiled? Are you calling just to upset me?" Isla Lane didn't like anyone saying anything negative about her son. Whoever spoke ill of him was viewed as an enemy.
Charlotte rolled her eyes at the car window. If it wasn't her mother on the other end, she would have hung up long ago.
"How could I upset you? It's always been Benjamin who upsets you." As soon as Charlotte finished speaking, she heard Isla's sigh of suppressed anger on the other end, prompting her to quickly add, "Alice is back, and Benjamin he..."
