Hearing his older sister's worried, urgent questioning, Benjamin Shaw's tears flowed even harder. Just now he had only been silently crying, but now he was sobbing out loud.
"Uuuh… sis… I… I feel awful…"
Benjamin clutched the spot over his heart. He couldn't even put into words what kind of "awful" it was; he just felt unwell, unbearably unwell.
Hearing her younger brother's choked sobs on the other end of the line, Charlotte Shaw's heart suddenly clenched tight, and the worry in her chest grew even heavier. "Where exactly are you right now? Tell me, quickly."
She took the phone away from her ear, tapped on speaker, and set it down on the counter beside her.
While waiting for her brother to answer, she started changing her clothes.
She was already dressed, but the person on the phone was still sobbing and hadn't responded.
