Athena Linton ran upstairs in one breath, and once upstairs, she didn't hear any sounds behind her. She patted her violently heaving chest and stopped to rest, but she didn't dare linger long and hurriedly dashed into her room.
Back in her room, she immediately locked the door from the inside, pressed her ear against the door, and listened for a long time. Only when she didn't hear any footsteps did she feel relieved enough to walk further into the room.
