Christopher Turner had many questions he wanted to ask Thomas Fisher, but he didn't want to be too direct. If it turned out he was mistaken, asking would make things awkward. It was really uncomfortable to hold back and not ask.
"Uncle! Aunt! I have something to attend to today, I'll visit you both another day." Thomas Fisher didn't really want to leave so soon, but Alice Turner, sitting beside him, kept giving him signals to leave quickly. Not wanting to upset her, he reluctantly stood up to say goodbye.
Seeing this, Christopher Turner quickly stood up as well, "Is the matter urgent? I had hoped you'd stay and have dinner with us."
He genuinely tried to keep the departing guest, but the outcome seemed less than satisfactory.
