In the following days, Jason had spent countless sleepless nights searching for a better way to protect the soldiers. But the truth is that in such enclosed places there is no possibility of an easy solution to deal with cleaning problems.
Even if there are now tanks, armored vehicles, and numerous combat helicopters, none of that works if the enemies are in a basement or a dark parking area.
But everyone had to keep fighting.
Jason had to keep sending his soldiers to face all the walkers. But he knew he could not afford to lose so many lives, so after some consideration, he and his team began to personally move into the most dangerous areas.
…
Hours later, Jason personally led an elite squad to confront walkers.
The squad of elite soldiers moved quickly through the abandoned streets, scanning their surroundings for any sign of danger. Jason, their leader, took the lead, while his sharp and alert senses carefully examined every single detail.
Like an experienced old bloodhound, no one doubted following him, and in fact everyone felt very calm seeing Airo's back. This time, Tommy followed closely behind him, covering Jason's back in case any kind of unforeseen situation arose.
Grrr!
Suddenly, they heard a growl, and Jason signaled the squad to stop. They quickly took defensive positions, and at the same time their weapons were ready.
"Get ready!" Jason warned.
Roar!
From the shadows emerged a group of fast and dangerous zombies, their eyes shining with hunger. As soon as Jason saw this, he raised his P90 and shouted, "Fire!"
The squad opened fire, the sound of gunshots echoing through the streets.
Bang Bang Bang! Bang Bang Bang!
Jason moved closer, his combat skills refined through years of training. He drew his sword, the blade gleaming in the moonlight, and charged toward the walkers coming from the left.
Crack!
As he cut his way through the first wave of enemies, he noticed a special walker, whose eyes glowed with a chilling green light. It moved at lightning speed, its sharp claws ready to strike as they slashed through the air.
Jason stared intently at the special-class walker, his heart pounding with adrenaline. He knew this would be the hardest fight since he arrived here.
The two charged at each other, the sound of their clash echoing through the streets. Jason dodged the walker's initial attack, and his sword flashed in the moonlight as he counterattacked with deadly precision.
The walker growled, its claws bouncing off Jason's armor. But Jason did not flinch. He continued fighting, his movements fluid and elegant as he danced around the attacks of the walkers surrounding him.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity of combat, Jason saw his opportunity. With a quick strike, he plunged his sword into the walker's chest, and with an upward force, he split his enemy's body in half.
The walker let out one last guttural growl before collapsing to the ground. Jason stood over it, breathing heavily, his sword still held firmly in his hand.
The rest of the squad had finished off the other walkers and gathered around Jason, eliminating any remaining walkers.
But Jason knew the battle was far from over. There would always be more walkers to face, more enemies to defeat. But for now, he took a moment to enjoy the glow of a victory without losses, feeling grateful for his skills and for the comrades who had fought by his side.
Together, they would continue fighting so that soon the surrounding areas would be free of walkers.
…
At night, Jason and Daryl sat at a small table in the back of a dimly lit bar, each with a glass of whisky. It was a rare moment of relaxation in their hectic lives as leaders of S.C.T., the organization they had created together from the very beginning.
"So, Daryl…" Jason said, swirling his drink. "Have you ever wondered if it's all worth it? The constant fighting, the loss of lives, the destruction of everything we once knew?"
Daryl took a sip of his drink, contemplating Jason's words. "I do, sometimes. But then I think about what matters to me, and I just keep going. You know you can trust me, you know… Lately I've been looking for a cat, but I can't find one no matter how many times I search."
Jason chuckled softly. "Yeah, I guess cats have a way of keeping us busy, but I've only seen dogs."
Daryl raised an eyebrow and joked, "If someone heard that you, the leader of S.C.T., whom many respect, were worried about the extortion of cats, wouldn't that be funny?"
Jason smiled. "Hey, even the toughest of us have a soft side. I'm still thinking of a name in case I happen to find a cat, it would be very soft to pet it…"
Daryl nodded in understanding. "Yeah, I still remember when we ate a cat. At that time Shane accepted the proposal my brother and I made to eat that cat…"
"Should I give you a rabies test?"
"Nonsense…"
Both Jason and Daryl fell into a calm silence, each lost in their thoughts about the cost of surviving in a world full of walkers. But after a moment, Daryl spoke again.
"You know, Jason, I think the key is to find joy in the little things. Like what we enjoy doing, for example, having a good whisky, smoking, or hunting…"
Jason smiled. "Yeah, you're right. It's important to hold on to those small moments of happiness. That's what makes the fight worth it."
Daryl raised his glass. "Here's to finding joy and letting many keep moving forward until we've gotten through all of this…"
Jason clinked his glass against Daryl's. "Cheers to that, and to cats."
As they sipped their drinks, Jason couldn't help but feel grateful for Daryl's friendship. They had been through a lot together, and their shared sense of humor had helped them keep their sanity in a world that often felt like madness.
"So, do you have any good jokes for me, Daryl?" Jason asked, with a playful glint in his eyes.
"I don't know anything about that, but I'm sure T-Dog knows a lot of dark humor jokes."
Jason laughed sincerely for a few seconds, feeling the tension of the day fade away. "That's terrible, but I love it."
Daryl looked at Jason without knowing why he was talking about jokes. But he could not deny that he didn't feel uncomfortable, and he soon realized that spending time alongside Jason was not uncomfortable at all.
They spent the rest of the night sharing stories, drinking whisky, and talking about cats and dogs. It was a much-needed break from the weight of their responsibilities.
But as the night went on, both of them knew it was time to rest, not before Daryl mentioned that he would go out hunting with a group while trying to look for survivors in the nearby forests.
