8 Enrollment (Part 2)
Chapter 8 Enrollment (Part 2)
The dock is shaped like a "凸" (convex) character.
A long, narrow canopy serves as the dividing line, narrower in the front and wider in the back. Link had just reached the back of the canopy
when he was slightly shocked by what he saw. Dozens of large aircraft, resembling the Y-20 "Fat Girl" (a popular Chinese transport aircraft) , were lined up on the open ground, their rear ends facing the canopy, their tail hatches open and landed. This display, this scale, this aura… in one word, breathtaking! Above the aircraft, the names and emblems of various wizarding organizations floated in the air, making them easy to identify and eliminating any worry about getting lost. "Link, over here." Jasmine stood by the tail hatch of one of the large aircraft belonging to the Rivosos Biological and Medical Academy, waving to Link from afar. She stood gracefully, smiling warmly, tilting her head as she waved, appearing even more charming and adorable. "Tsk…" Link clicked his tongue, feeling that Jasmine had been intentionally or unintentionally using her charm on him ever since she decided to enter the Rivosos Biological and Medical Academy. If he really was just an naive blacksmith's son, he'd eventually fall for Jasmine's charms. Then, he might just be exploited, willingly working for her and even handing over his resources. Hmm… Link admitted that thinking like this made him seem a bit cynical. But while one shouldn't have a heart to harm others, one must be wary of them. Link didn't hesitate to assume the worst about human nature. "Coming." Putting aside his thoughts, Link waved to Jasmine and quickly walked to her side. "They've all gone up. I'll wait here with you; I'm a little scared by myself." As Link approached, Jasmine gave him a bright smile and said sweetly, "I'm not afraid now that you're here." "Ah…" Link opened his mouth, momentarily at a loss for words to respond to this sudden, direct approach.
"This tactic is a bit crude. No emotional foundation whatsoever, just a direct attack?"
Link was a little confused about this strategy, so he simply didn't respond.
"Let's go up too."
This time, Link avoided physical contact with Jasmine and went straight to the cabin.
Jasmine blinked, somewhat surprised.
Had she done something wrong? Why did Link seem to be deliberately distancing himself from her?
After thinking about it without finding a solution, Jasmine put it out of her mind and followed Link closely, boarding the aircraft.
At the entrance to the aircraft cabin sat a staff member dressed in the same uniform as the recruiters.
To his left was a device resembling a tablet, and to his right was a square black box. Above his head floated a white machine with a glass lens.
"Name?"
The staff member's voice was indifferent, devoid of any emotion.
"Link Grand."
"Hmm… a fourth-tier qualification, not bad."
The staff member tapped a few times on the tablet, muttered to himself, then pointed to a spot about two meters in front of Link, marked with a short white line. "Stand straight there, eyes forward, don't blink, don't move."
Link obediently followed the instructions.
Click.
The glass lens of the white device hovering above the staff member's head flashed.
"Taking a picture?"
Link increasingly felt the profound wisdom contained in the eight characters "The Great Way originates from the same source, and different paths lead to the same destination."
So far, Link had witnessed self-driving vehicles, all-metal ocean-going vessels, handheld terminals, artificial intelligence, sophisticated lighting systems, aviation, and the internet.
It proved that the advanced wizarding civilization was by no means backward or ignorant.
Perhaps the methods of implementation differed, but the results were no different from the technological civilization of Link's previous life, and in many areas, it might even be far ahead.
Therefore, Link wasn't surprised to see drones with photo and video recording capabilities.
"Come here, place your hands on it,"
the staff member pointed to the palm and fingerprint scanner on the table.
Link did as instructed.
The scanner emitted blue light, scanning back and forth several times, recording Link's palm print and fingerprint into the database.
The square black box then activated, creaking a few times, revealing an opening at the bottom, and ejecting a document about half the size of a palm.
At the top center of the document was the emblem of the Rivosos Biological and Medical Academy, with the academy's full name below the emblem.
In the center was a half-body photo of Link.
Below it were his name, "Link Grand," and his apprentice number, "201140048."
"Alright, go find a seat,"
the staff member said casually, handing Link his ID.
"Thank you,"
Link bowed respectfully to the staff member.
Politeness was never a bad thing, especially in the wizarding world where power resided within oneself. After reflecting on his actions a few days prior, Link maintained a humble attitude.
He might not gain any real benefit from this, but it could at least reduce unnecessary malice and hostility.
Link entered the cabin and waited in the corridor for a while until Molly had also registered and received her ID before they went to find seats together.
After all, they came from the same place; there was no need to distance themselves from each other because of their own, whether true or false, speculations.
Normal interaction was fine.
On both sides of the corridor were individual booths, some for two people and some for four.
Link and Molly discussed it and chose an empty two-person booth.
Sitting in the soft, comfortable chair, Jasmine was silent for a moment before suddenly exclaiming, "I feel like I'm dreaming."
"Even if you don't say it, I know I've been pampered since childhood, my living conditions are much better than yours. But compared to the wizards of the main continent, those conditions are like the difference between a savage slave and a noble."
As she spoke, Jasmine's expression became complicated.
"I feel like a savage slave who has stumbled into the wizarding world, ignorant and fearful!"
Jasmine turned to Link, staring intently into his eyes, and asked seriously, "Link, why do you seem so unsurprised by many things that Jimi and I can't accept right now? This doesn't seem like the behavior of a blacksmith's son with limited experience. Can you tell me why?"
Link couldn't help but feel puzzled.
Sister, what's wrong with you?
First, a direct approach, and now this soul-searching question?
We're not that close, just some chance encounters from the same hometown.
Is this a question you should be asking?
Link remained calm. His "Brain Closure" activated, his emotional simulation perfect, and he replied composedly, "Isn't everything a wizard does just as logically as it should be? What's so surprising?"
He paused, then continued, "My family can only forge one decent iron sword a month, but Viscount Holloway's soldiers are never short of weapons. I've known since childhood that there's no need to question what great people can accomplish with your own limited perspective."
Let's just say that for now, whether you believe it or not.
