Asher's POV
For a terrifying second, my heart skipped a beat as Karen glanced directly in my direction, as if she could see right through my concealment. I quickly checked my status interface—thankfully, my invisibility skill was still active. The soft rattle of the glass when I stumbled backward and hit it in shock had almost blown my cover.
When she finally turned back to the containment tank holding her son, I let out a soundless breath.
I forced myself to look back at the two fluid tanks in front of me. There was no mistaking it. That dirty blonde hair and the distinct curve of her nose belonged to my mother. Beside her, my father's stern features—looking even sturdier in his unconscious state—were unmistakable beneath the faint mutation in his body.
These were my parents.
I took a trembling step forward, resting my palm against the cool glass. My hand shook so violently it rattled against the frame. I couldn't breathe.
'How?'
