Han Ru handed the broken phoenix brooch to Xia Weiwei.
"You should keep it."
Weiwei looked at her in surprise.
"You protected it for eight years."
"And now it has reacted to you." Han Ru closed Weiwei's fingers around the silver piece. "Your mother intended it to reach you eventually."
"What if someone searches me?"
"That is why you should not carry it openly," Mo Shian said.
He removed a clean handkerchief from his pocket and wrapped the brooch carefully before placing it inside the inner pocket of his suit.
Weiwei watched him.
"Why are you keeping it?"
"Because no one will search me."
The answer was spoken so naturally that Jiang Tao almost smiled.
There were not many people in City Y with enough courage to put their hands inside Mo Shian's clothes without permission.
Han Ru looked between the couple.
"Qiqi was worried that you would grow up alone."
"I had my grandfather."
"She knew your father would provide for you, but that was not what she meant."
