From Khadgar's expression, Noah could tell his last remark had probably made things awkward.
In truth, Noah understood this perfectly well. When facing an unknown mage from another world, caution was only natural. If their positions were reversed, he would've reacted the same way.
But he didn't have many options.
He didn't speak this universe's language and had no way to pretend he was a local. Taking the initiative and staying ahead was the only viable choice.
As for how things would turn out, Noah didn't bother overthinking it.
It was worth trying.
Besides, he was already in the process of learning this world's Common tongue.
Noah's talent for learning was never in doubt.
All he needed was to match the vocabulary of this universe with concepts he already understood.
With his memory, grasping the basics was only a matter of time.
While Noah and Khadgar exchanged casual words, Medivh finished examining the evidence.
His mood was clearly foul, and his condition looked worse than before.
After issuing a few short instructions, Medivh opened a portal.
Blue light flashed.
The Guardian vanished from Elwynn Forest.
The sudden departure left Lothar momentarily stunned.
He still had far too many unresolved issues.
The mission wasn't finished. The full picture was missing. And on top of that, an Interstellar Mage had appeared out of nowhere.
None of it sat well with him.
Fortunately, luck didn't abandon him.
Unwilling to give up, Lothar ordered his troops to search the area.
By sheer chance, they captured Garona-the neutral half-orc assassin.
At that point, the pieces were almost perfectly aligned with the original course of events.
The only difference was Noah.
With a half-orc who spoke Azerothian Common in hand, Lothar finally felt his mission had substance again.
He immediately escorted the prisoner-and Noah, the foreign mage-back to Stormwind.
"Where are we going? How long will this take?"
Noah sat on top of the prisoner transport, asking Khadgar in English, sounding bored.
Since Noah couldn't ride a horse, he had declined Lothar's offer of a mount.
Instead, he had simply climbed onto the roof of the cage.
Garona wasn't nearly as fortunate.
She remained shackled inside.
"Probably a few more hours," Khadgar replied in Common, shrugging.
"We're heading to Stormwind City. By the way, Master Noah, you still haven't said where you're actually from."
"Me?" Noah replied casually.
"Some remote place."
He noticed Khadgar beginning to translate for Lothar and the others.
Noah didn't mind.
If anything, it was the perfect chance to learn new words.
"My universe is very far from here. Honestly, I never planned to come. A damn space storm knocked me off course."
"Off course?"
Noah's words made Lothar and Khadgar exchange looks.
They hadn't expected such an explanation.
"Then what was your original destination? Can you return?"
"My original destination isn't your concern, is it?"
Noah spread his hands.
"As for going back, that won't be an issue. I just need time to recover my strength. Independent interstellar travel isn't simple."
Most of that was nonsense.
But Noah wasn't worried about being exposed.
Aside from the imaginary space storm and being blown off course, everything else was true.
More importantly, Medivh's departure had eased his nerves.
Without the Medivh-Sargeras combination looming overhead, Noah finally felt free to relax.
As the journey continued, Noah took in the sights of Azeroth.
They passed through Goldshire, the largest settlement near Stormwind.
Unfortunately, Lothar and his men were clearly pressed for time.
Noah didn't get the chance to sit in the Lion's Pride Inn with a mug of fresh stout.
He also missed the opportunity to visit a certain strange room above a skinning trainer's house and reminisce about the footprints he'd left there long ago.
By dusk, they reached Stormwind City.
Escorted by a large force of soldiers, Noah was brought before King Llane Wrynn.
"Greetings... Master Mage from another world."
Llane inclined his head slightly.
His manners were impeccable-polite, refined, and naturally warm.
Looking at the King, Noah felt a hint of nostalgia.
Llane had left a deep impression on him.
Back when he'd watched the movie, Noah had genuinely liked this king.
If not for Llane's choice to stay behind and cover the retreat... well, perhaps the late-night assassination by Garona wouldn't have happened.
Maybe.
Noah didn't dwell on it.
That conversation could wait.
Before Khadgar finished translating, Noah cut the mental link.
He spoke directly, in slightly rough but functional Azerothian Common.
"Greetings, Your Majesty."
Silence followed.
Llane, Lothar, and Khadgar all stared at him.
After a long pause, Llane finally spoke, carefully, "Forgive me, but the information I received-"
"That I didn't know your language?" Noah spread his hands.
"That was true. Earlier."
"But as a mage, learning is essential. Your language isn't difficult. I picked it up over the afternoon."
That-
That was how a mage should be.
Khadgar was left speechless.
For a fleeting moment, he questioned whether he was even qualified for his position.
The thought passed quickly.
Still, the looks from Lothar and Llane made him feel distinctly uncomfortable.
Fortunately, neither pressed the issue.
"Very well, Master Noah," Llane said calmly.
"May I ask what you encountered?"
Now that Noah spoke their language, everything became easier.
"To be honest, I'm not entirely sure myself."
Noah sighed, deliberately.
"The moment I arrived, I knew something was wrong. Soon after, I was attacked by a group of... forgive me, I don't believe they're native to your world."
"I'm sorry for your-"
Llane stopped mid-sentence.
He remembered Lothar's report.
It had described the scene in vivid detail.
Bluntly put, it was a massacre.
Those invaders had been frozen into ice sculptures.
They were still standing in Elwynn Forest.
That wasn't something you could fabricate.
With a quiet sigh, Llane realized there was no point offering hollow sympathy.
Nor was there any need to interrogate Noah further.
After a moment, he said, "Those creatures are not native to Azeroth either. I regret what you experienced."
"Noah, was it?"
Lothar spoke up as soon as Llane finished.
"Is it possible that while traveling between worlds, you accidentally brought those monsters with you?"
"That's possible."
Noah didn't take offense.
Didn't Lothar already know the answer?
"But didn't you capture a half-orc as well?" Noah continued.
"She speaks your language. Why not ask her? You'll get all your answers."
The suggestion was immediately accepted.
Truthfully, if Noah hadn't appeared, they would've interrogated her the moment she was captured.
Although his presence had delayed things, everything was finally back on track.
Just as Noah remembered, Garona spoke freely.
She hid nothing.
During the interrogation, Medivh returned from Karazhan.
The Dark Portal weighed heavily on his mind.
He appeared deeply troubled.
Noah watched the Guardian carefully.
Before the Fel fully manifested, it was impossible to tell whether Medivh was himself-or Sargeras.
After the interrogation, Garona still refused to cooperate.
She was thrown into the dungeon to await execution.
Or redemption.
As for Noah, since he couldn't leave yet-and since he had effortlessly crushed the orcs-Stormwind granted him temporary residence.
Noah had no objections.
He needed time to think.
Coming to this universe, he felt oddly directionless.
The complexity here was far beyond expectation.
The real threats weren't just powerful-they were layered with contingencies.
"And most importantly... where the hell am I supposed to find that damn Holy Light?"
That was Noah's true goal.
Everything else was irrelevant.
And if he got what he wanted?
He wouldn't mind causing a little chaos.
Stirring things up.
Then disappearing-quietly-under the cover of his system.
