It wasn't even me that got rejected, but the pain seared through the air just the same. I blinked, the words sinking in, and so did Regulus, before he stumbled back and dropped his cane.
"Daya," I said, voice shaking. "You don't mean that."
Daya didn't glance at me, those brown eyes cold and defiant as they locked unto her mate. "In the presence of Alpha Malachai Saint Von Jhering and Luna Decker-Chloe Saint Von Jhering, I reject you, Regulus. I severe this bond. I break it."
The lack of stuttering and emotion in her voice scared me. Only steep conviction. Without looking back, she walked away before her footsteps became hurried.
Regulus stood there, unmoving.
"Well, that was a bust." Ivy commented, kicking the painting that Art painstakingly drew away. Arc glared at her with enough loathing for the two of us.
Kai nodded his head in the direction Daya headed, and that was all the sign needed for me to follow her. "Daya! Daya, wait up!"
