Leaning gently on Ryosuke's shoulder, Tsunade allowed herself to be vulnerable, silently feeling the warmth of Mizuki Ryosuke's presence.
In a life so unpredictable and short like a fleeting gust in the Wind Release technique why should she reject the blessings fate handed her? Tomorrow was never promised to a shinobi.
When Ryosuke spoke softly, Tsunade's golden eyes shimmered with sadness only to curve into a bittersweet smile moments later.
Finally, she raised her face from Ryosuke's chest and left a warm kiss on his cheek. Though she bore the name of the "Slug Princess," in this instant, she was simply Tsunade.
"…I'm sorry, Ryosuke."
Mizuki Ryosuke didn't respond aloud, only whispered in his heart.
They both had their own roads to walk.
Tsunade still hadn't ascended to the position she was destined for the Hokage seat once held by her grandfather, Senju Hashirama.
And Ryosuke, the newly appointed Mizukage, bore the future of the Hidden Mist on his back.
"It's okay," he replied gently, brushing a loose strand of blond hair from her face, his expression soft as a rippling Genjutsu illusion dispelled under moonlight.
From above, Katsuyu the massive main body of the Slug Sage watched the scene with playful amusement. Her gigantic figure defied logic, floating above like a benevolent celestial.
"Even the strongest kunoichi is still just a girl in love," Katsuyu said teasingly, ignoring Tsunade's flushed cheeks.
Despite being one of the Legendary Sannin, Tsunade's heart beat with the same nervous rhythm as any woman's in the face of love.
Their moment didn't last. Soon, the two were pulled back into the reality of their world by the Reverse Summoning Technique. The jutsu an advanced summoning known to few, like Naruto's Sage Mode training allowed them to return swiftly from the sacred Shikkotsu Forest.
Back in the ninja world, Tsunade's expression turned serious. Konoha had issued an urgent recall. Word had reached them: Hanzo of the Salamander had declared war on the Leaf.
Tsunade, having seen firsthand what Hanzo was capable of during the Second Shinobi World War when he gave her, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru the title "Sannin" understood the gravity of the situation.
"No wonder," Tsunade muttered, nodding toward Katsuyu, then turned with soft determination to Ryosuke.
"Young people these days are bold," Katsuyu sighed in mock jealousy. "You two didn't even consider how a thousand-year single slug might feel."
"Immortal Katsuyu, did something happen?" Tsunade asked seriously, hiding her embarrassment beneath her usual composed front.
In an instant, the clouds split. The titanic form of Katsuyu's true body descended gracefully through the heavens. Even Ryosuke accustomed to immense power found his breath caught at the sheer scale of the creature. No wonder her true form remained hidden from ordinary eyes.
Ryosuke's instincts, sharpened by countless battles, recognized this visit wasn't casual. "There's more to this than teasing," he murmured to himself.
Tsunade's face reddened again as she noticed Katsuyu floating above, clearly having overheard everything. Her heart fluttered not from chakra disturbance, but from the fragile emotion of departure.
Ryosuke's voice was steady. "When this conflict settles, I'll come find you in Konoha."
Tsunade's eyes softened again, like the calm before a storm. "I'll wait… but you better not keep me waiting long."
"Shizune relayed Konoha's message through the forest's link," Katsuyu added. "The Hokage elders have requested Lady Tsunade's immediate return. Rain Shinobi movements are intensifying."
"It seems Hanzo plans a direct confrontation," Ryosuke assessed, recalling intelligence reports from Hidden Mist informants.
Tsunade didn't need to ask. The look in Ryosuke's eyes told her everything. There wasn't enough time.
"I didn't expect Tsunade's little boyfriend to understand the situation so well," Katsuyu giggled.
Tsunade groaned. "Katsuyu-sama!!"
The bond between the two shinobi wasn't one born from fleeting infatuation it was forged in mutual loss, battle-worn empathy, and quiet moments in the Shikkotsu Forest.
Tsunade had tried to resist fate. As the last living member of the Senju lineage, burdened by the deaths of her brother Nawaki and her lover Dan, she once turned away from love and duty both.
But Mizuki Ryosuke changed that. He brought light into the shadows of her world.
"In this chaotic world… we don't know if there will be a tomorrow," Ryosuke said, echoing the unspoken fear in both their hearts.
Tsunade nestled into his embrace one last time, savoring the warmth like the sun peeking through an overcast sky.
But their moment shattered as Katsuyu announced, "Tsunade, it's time."
Though her heart resisted, Tsunade knew her duty. She was no longer just a wandering medic or a gambling drunkard she was Konoha's future Hokage.
Just as Ryosuke was the spearhead of Hidden Mist's reform.
Before stepping away, she whispered, "This is a reward… but don't forget me."
Ryosuke smiled. "How could I?"
He had never imagined that in such a brief span, Tsunade would come to mean so much. For someone who bore the title of Mizukage, whose world was built on strategies and swordplay, her presence was like a healing jutsu cast upon a wounded heart.
To outsiders, their connection might seem abrupt, even unwise especially across villages with long-standing tensions but in a world soaked in blood and sacrifice, even fleeting joy was sacred.
When Tsunade finally turned to leave, she wasn't just walking toward her village she was walking toward her destiny.
And behind her, Ryosuke stood still under the starlight, watching until her figure disappeared.
Katsuyu, understanding the emotion in the air, said nothing more. She merely faded from sight, leaving Ryosuke alone.
"Thank you, Ryosuke," Tsunade had whispered earlier.
At that time, she hadn't just meant for the moment they both knew their paths would cross again, in the Land of Fire.
And perhaps… they would fight side by side again when the next storm hit the Shinobi World.
