Chapter 444 - Pokédex Resonance

After taking it, Shiro opened the box to check. Inside was a Mega Evolution Stone for Gengar.

Snap!

He quickly closed the lid and slipped it into his pocket.

Seeing this, Sycamore smiled and waved his hand. He did not say anything more and simply turned to walk up the stairs toward the deck.

Shiro waved goodbye, a sense of relief rising in his chest as he released Growlithe again.

"Let's go, back to Professor Oak's lab!"

* * *

Oak Research Institute. A laboratory on the second floor.

Oak wore a serious expression as he took out a Pokédex from the room.

Outside, Blue had already been waiting impatiently. He frowned as he looked at the device in his grandfather's hand, which carried a distinctly advanced technological design.

Another communication device?

He had no interest in such things.

"You're about to start your journey, right? Take this..."

Oak carefully handed over the Pokédex.

This was the first completed Pokédex he had developed, and also the first one he was about to give away.

"What's this even useful for?" Blue muttered, clearly unimpressed.

He had seen too many similar devices. At most, they could make calls or act as simple computers. Nothing special.

Oak's tone was as serious as his expression. "This is a Pokémon Pokédex I worked hard to develop. It contains data on most Pokémon. It can help you—"

"I got it!" Blue stuffed the Pokédex into his pocket, turned, and walked away while waving his hand.

Just Pokémon data. To someone like him, who loved learning, it felt unnecessary.

Oak watched his grandson disappear at the stairway, as if he wanted to say something but held back. In the end, he let out a weary sigh and returned to the lab.

On the silver research table, several Pokédex devices, each slightly larger than a palm, were neatly arranged. They came in different colors, all finely crafted.

These were the result of his years of hard work. Right now, they were the most important things he had.

Of course, once the Pokédex was released and enough time passed, it would eventually become common.

Oak often imagined a day when every new trainer would hold one in their hands. They would no longer face danger due to a lack of basic Pokémon knowledge, nor be led astray into evil organizations.

But under the current circumstances, that still seemed unlikely…

Knock, knock, knock...

Three knocks sounded on the lab door.

Shiro's voice came from outside. "Professor Oak, are you here?"

Oak pulled himself together and opened the door. "Did something happen? Is there a problem with the move learning machine?"

"No, I came to ask about Rhyperior," Shiro replied.

He planned to return to Sinnoh with Professor Rowan and the others after taking back Rhyperior.

Then, after investigating the Hunters Guild and sending Mesprit home, he would head to Hoenn.

"Oh, right... I almost forgot!"

Oak slapped his forehead and showed an apologetic smile. He returned to the room, walked to a research table, and took a Poké Ball from a slot.

As he passed the central table, he hesitated for a moment, then picked up a Pokédex as well.

Shiro waited at the door. After a brief moment, Oak hurried over.

"This is your Rhyperior. The brain surgery has been completed. Its vital signs are very stable, and it's in excellent condition."

After saying that, Oak saw Shiro take the Poké Ball and prepare to leave, so he reached out and grabbed the sleeve of his white coat.

Shiro looked at him with confusion.

"Wait a moment..." Oak took out a sleek black device from his pocket. "You might find this useful."

"This is..."

Shiro recognized it at a glance. It was a Pokédex. He looked a bit surprised.

Wasn't this something meant for beginner trainers?

He should already be past the stage of receiving one...

Still, the Pokédex was practically standard equipment for trainers. In the anime, you could hardly call yourself a trainer without one.

For someone like him who had transmigrated to this world, it was almost like having a built-in Pokédex already.

"Professor Oak, thank you. I really like it."

After thanking him, Shiro put the Pokédex away.

Oak let out a breath of relief, then smiled and waved as he watched him leave.

* * *

Blue sat in the first-floor hall, fiddling with the Pokédex in his hand.

He actually disliked this kind of device... something that was mostly useful only for communication.

Looking at the instructions on the screen, he clicked his tongue again.

[This device was developed by Professor Oak and contains data on all known Pokémon…]

Pokémon data? The kind with just names and pictures, right?

He had seen plenty of that. In bookstores, most Pokémon-related materials were exactly like that.

Even so, he still typed "Charizard" into the search bar.

Buzz!

After a brief vibration, the name and image of Charizard appeared.

But to his surprise, there was also a long block of text below.

[Charizard flaps its wings and soars high in the sky, flying around in search of strong opponents. It can reach an altitude of 1,400 meters. It breathes scorching flames capable of melting anything, tormenting its enemies…]

Blue scanned through the information quickly. These were things he had already memorized countless times. His eyes moved faster and faster, but his expression gradually grew more serious.

Until his gaze stopped on a certain line below:

[Charizard possesses two Mega Evolution forms…]

Blue instantly turned off the screen. A thin layer of sweat appeared on his forehead.

Mega Evolution!

He had only heard about it from his grandfather's warnings.

The trouble Professor Sycamore had faced previously also seemed to be related to Mega Evolution.

So why did this Pokédex contain such information?

Was it something his grandfather kept hidden, or… had he gone mad and planned to mass-produce devices like this?

Blue glanced around the hall. After confirming that no one was watching him, he turned the Pokédex back on.

Leaning back on the sofa, he covered the screen as much as possible with his hand.

After searching for three more Pokémon and finding detailed information, even related research data, he straightened up, brows tightly furrowed, and quietly put the Pokédex away.

If his grandfather really intended to mass-produce something like this… he needed to confirm the old man's intentions.

Blue stood up and walked toward the stairs again.

At that moment, Shiro, who had just come down from the second floor, ran into him

"Professor Corviknight..." Blue greeted briefly.

Shiro gave a slight nod in return.

As they passed each other, the Pokédex in their pockets suddenly emitted a sharp, piercing alarm at the same time.
