Chapter 606 - Chapter 606: Not Only Do Demons Walk the Earth, but Hell Is Here as Well

The sound of a gunshot cut through the tapping of the keyboard. Kycilia Zabi looked down in disbelief as blood spread across her chest. She couldn't believe this was real, but the gradually numbing pain stimulated her nerves, telling her this was reality.

Stiffly, she turned her head to look at her adjutant.

"You... you..."

"I'm... I'm sorry... Lady Kycilia... I... I don't want to die!"

"You... all of you..." Kycilia Zabi used the last of her strength to turn and look at everyone behind her. They should have been panicking and concerned for her condition, but now they avoided her like the plague, lowering their heads to avoid her gaze. Some even looked at her with eyes filled with the satisfaction of long-awaited vengeance.

Kycilia Zabi could never have imagined in her life that her death would come at the hands of her own adjutant. She never imagined her end would be in this cold shelter, and even less that the final image of her life would be a tapestry of indifference and hatred.

"Is she dead? Is Kycilia dead?"

"Quick, check if the self-destruct program was set!"

"No, whew... it wasn't successfully set yet."

"Oh!!"

"We survived!"

"We don't have to die! We don't have to die!"

"Quick! Go surrender to the Federal Army! As long as we surrender, we can live!"

"Will the Federal Army really let us go?" someone questioned.

"They definitely will! Because we still have value. They definitely need the research data and results of this institute. And us—maybe we can even continue our research!"

"That's right, it must be so!"

...

Once that was said, no one questioned it further. Everyone scrambled to find ways to surrender to the Federal Army. Communications, telegrams, signal lights, and even SOS signs were hung out.

They were soon discovered by the searching Twelfth Independent Technical Division, which converged to take over the Flanagan Institute.

"Kycilia Zabi."

To claim credit, they even brought out Kycilia Zabi's corpse, hoping to increase their chances of survival.

As Yang Hui looked at Kycilia Zabi's body, he was filled with emotion.

"You probably never imagined your end would be like this, did you?" Yang Hui murmured to Kycilia Zabi's remains, kindly closing her eyes for her. "I've fought you for so long; let me see you off."

"Com... Commander..." At that moment, the adjutant walked tremblingly toward Yang Hui. "Kycilia Zabi wanted to activate the self-destruct program to take the officers down with her, so I... we killed her. We surrender. Except for Dr. Flanagan, who was shot by Kycilia Zabi, and a few test subjects who went out to battle, everyone... everyone in the Flanagan Institute is here."

"Everyone is here?" When he heard the term "test subject," Yang Hui's expression grew a few degrees colder, and his tone dropped significantly.

"Ye... yes, everyone is here. The re... research data is kept in the central database. If you... if you need it, I can lead the way."

"No need." Yang Hui interrupted the adjutant, waving his hand for Athrun and the others to take them away first, locking them in a separate room before letting others enter to search.

"Destroy the central database after copying the research data. Look for anyone else."

"Understood." XN

Luna and White Base followed behind the MS units and soon arrived at the wreckage of the colony, Hull. Marines quickly landed, taking over the task of guarding prisoners and searching. Soon, the entire Flanagan Institute was turned upside down. All research data in the central database was copied, and explosives were set. Then...

"Colonel, we've found something in Sector D5. You need to come see this yourself."

"Received. I'm on my way."

Upon receiving the report, Yang Hui immediately led his men to Sector D5. Before he even reached it, he smelled a thick, foul stench. When he arrived and looked, his anger flared.

"This is...!"

At a glance, there was a field of cultivation tanks. The glass vats were filled with specimens of various human organs. The room next door was an operating room—no, it would be more accurate to call it a laboratory. There was no clean environment required for medical procedures; the operating tables, the various tools laid out nearby, and even the floor were stained with dark blood—the color blood turns after being dried for an unknown amount of time.

Further back... were cages. Cages for holding test subjects. They were all children, ranging from a few years old to their teens. Their eyes were dull, and they curled up on their beds numbly. If anyone approached, they would retreat in fear.

"This place is simply hell! These people are demons!" Ford Romfellow couldn't help but curse.

"That's enough, Fort." Yang Hui patted Ford Romfellow's shoulder, telling him to control his emotions so as not to scare the children. "Go call Amuro, Cima, Chris... tell them to come down. You men, step back a bit, hide your guns, and bring some food and water down."

"Understood."

The marines retreated a distance, putting their guns behind their backs. Not long after, Amuro and the others arrived with food and water. Seeing the misery here, the female pilots couldn't help but gag.

"I will calm their emotions first, then you take them away and send them directly back to Luna and White Base. But watch your safety; prevent them from doing anything drastic that might hurt you."

"Understood." XN

As soon as he finished speaking, Yang Hui's eyes were filled with iridescent light. A gentle Psychic Wave slowly spread outward, quickly filling the entire area. A trace of luster appeared in the numb eyes, and fear and hatred began to fade.

"Don't worry, we are here to save you. We won't hurt you."

Yang Hui was definitely the person most skilled and familiar with using Psychic Waves currently. Communication via Psychic Waves—or rather, opening a "chat room"—was not like face-to-face conversation. It was a communication of spirit to spirit, the most direct expression of emotion. It wasn't like surface communication where one might say one thing and hide another; it transmitted the most authentic emotions to others.

Therefore, even hearts that had been frozen would melt; even towering walls erected for self-protection would be pierced.

Soon, the children who had lived in fear day and night relaxed. A sudden wave of exhaustion swept over their brains. Their eyelids struggled before finally closing, and they fell into a sweet slumber they hadn't experienced in a long time.

"Whew~" His eyes returned to normal, and Yang Hui let out a breath. This was his first time using Psychic Waves to soothe others. He didn't know if it would be effective, but now it seemed... not bad.

"It's over. Bring them all out."

"Yes, Colonel."

Except for Amuro, who showed obvious NT traits, none of the others behind Yang Hui did. However, that didn't stop them from noticing the anomaly just now, though no one spoke of it.

This was the tacit understanding of the Twelfth Independent Technical Division. They were soldiers trained by Yang Hui; they knew very well what to ask and what not to ask, and they knew the time and place and what they should be doing.

Soon, all the children who were test subjects were taken away. After confirming the research institute was an empty shell, Yang Hui gave the marine captain a questioning look.

The marine captain received it and nodded in response.

Yang Hui also nodded, then left with his hands behind his back. Everyone from the Twelfth Independent Technical Division left with him, including the marines guarding the prisoners. After locking the doors where the prisoners were held, they departed together.

And then...

The marine transport boats took off, and the MS all took off. With a "Boom~", the place where the Flanagan Institute stood turned into a sea of fire. When the flames were extinguished, any trace of the Flanagan Institute's existence would be erased, along with the prisoners held inside.

Yang Hui watched all of this with indifference. From the beginning, he had never intended to let those people go.

As for the value they thought they had...

That thought wasn't wrong, but the premise was encountering ordinary Federal Army forces. Officers might be wary of their identities and value, sending them back to the Federation to gain merit or curry favor with certain superiors.

But did Yang Hui need that?

No.

As for their use to the Federation and the accountability from the Federation once they found out... this place was filled entirely with people from the Twelfth Independent Technical Division. How would the high-ups know?

Regarding the research results of the Flanagan Institute, Yang Hui didn't care about the NT research at all. It was just a special bloodline, and the ultimate results of the Flanagan Institute were nothing more than clones and Enhanced Humans, or helping those who were already NTs become NTs earlier and developing their abilities.

These results all required numerous, cruel experiments. Yang Hui despised them.

However, among the Flanagan Institute's research results, there was one Yang Hui cared about very much: the Psycommu System. Psycommu is short for "Psyco-Communicator," a specialized control system for NTs.

It primarily refers to equipment installed on MS and MA that has the function of "being able to operate wired/wireless mobile terminals such as the unit itself through the NT's brainwaves" and "sensors that enhance the NT's insight and perception." Later, the function of a "mental stabilization device for Enhanced Humans" was added.

In addition, similar systems used by ordinary people are called "Quasi-Psycommu." The Psychoframe is a special alloy with brainwave conduction efficiency.

The principle is to shrink computer chips to the limit and cast them into the MS frame along with metal particles. Reflecting the pilot's consciousness into the unit's movements allows for a high degree of linkage between the two. The ultimate form is that the pilot no longer needs to "operate" the unit; they can control it almost entirely by thought.

With this technology, and being able to connect to this world at the same time, there would be no need to spend resources at the Research Institute to unlock technology later. He could just manufacture the finished products in this world and bring them back to the Fortress, or...

"Mephis, is my idea feasible?"

[Feasible...]
