'They're really starting to annoy me.'
Generally, one would be happy with a promotion. It was a cause for celebration, but this was an obvious move to make it harder for me to move.
In other words...
They were trying to suppress me further.
"Come on! Why is everyone in such a mood? This is cause for celebration!"
Soran's words rang through the surroundings, and I snapped out of my daze, staring back at her and the others before nodding.
"Well, it's not bad. I guess I could do with a salary increase."
If it could even be considered that...
"See? Haha."
Soran laughed, moving closer to me as she slapped my back.
"Drinks are on me tonight."
I wasn't quite in the mood for that. I was just about to tell her that when she pressed her finger over my lips and shook her head.
"Nope."
She stared at me straight in the eyes.
"You're not allowed to refuse. This isn't something I'm willing to compromise on. Today, you and me, drinks."
