Chapter 564 - The Heir of Death

The World Tree -

The aurora swirled around Arthur its colors deepening, intensifying, as if the universe itself was acknowledging the transformation that was taking place within him. He floated above the massive branch, his body suspended in the warm light, his eyes closed, his form radiating power as he was changing.

It was not a physical transformation, his appearance remained the same, his ashen white hair still moving gently in the wind, his simple dark clothing still the very same. But something deeper was shifting, something fundamental. The boundaries of his being were expanding, his consciousness reaching outward to touch the edges of existence itself.

He could feel it.

The life of all things.

Every blade of grass, every star in the sky, every being that had ever drawn breath, he could sense them all, could feel the rhythm of their existence pulsing through him. He could feel the World Tree beneath him, its ancient roots delving into the depths of creation, its branches spreading across the cosmos. He could feel its vast, eternal life, and he could feel its ending as well, a distant point in the future where even this monument to existence would finally succumb to the inevitable. Death.

Didi's voice emerged from behind him, a presence that was now part of him.

"You can feel it, don't you?" Her arms wrapped around him from behind, her head resting on his shoulder, her form translucent yet solid, a ghost that was more real than any living thing. "The life of all things."

Arthur's eyes remained closed, but his lips curved into a small smile. "Yes."

"Much like what you felt that day when you agreed to take on my job for a single day. But it is not overwhelming you now. Good." She paused, her voice softening. "Then this was a success. Your control over death should be far more superior than it was. Any power that comes with it, any other aspect of it should be stronger as well." She paused again, her voice carrying a note of quiet pride. "As well as your power of the Abyss. It is but another aspect of death. You will not be severely affected by its usage anymore."

Arthur's voice was quiet. "I can definitely feel it."

"Now you stand on equal footing if not greater against the likes of the Dragon Monarch and the true form of Darkseid." She said, her voice hardening slightly. "But do be careful, Arthur. One of them still holds the concept of my brother. The other is the left hand of the Great Darkness. An extremely cunning being."

Arthur smiled. "You should not worry about me. I have always been careful about those two, especially Darkseid." He paused, his voice hardening. "His little avatar is not even my concern. It was always the true him."

Didi's voice carried a note of gentle teasing. "I should also mention that if you die, I will cease to exist with you." She paused, her voice becoming playful. "Hopefully this gives you more motivation. You know, to keep me around and alive and brighten your day like I'm doing right now."

Arthur's laugh was warm, genuine. "I did not wish to take your concept because it meant your death. So I am not going to let anything happen to you with the way you are right now."

Didi said with certainty. "I know you will not."

She paused, her voice becoming mischievous. "I also should mention that I have access to your thoughts at all times."

Arthur sighed. "You really left some necessary information to yourself, did you not?"

"Only the unimportant stuff." She said in an innocent, amusing way.

"Right." Arthur said.

"So, do you not have somewhere to be right now?" She paused. "Someone has been a very bad boy, and he needs to be punished... I would have done it myself but I don't fight, I'm bound by certain rules... rules you are not bound by."

Arthur's eyes opened, blazing with violet light, brighter than before, more intense. "Yeah. It is about time he gets his well-deserved punishment."

He disappeared in a gust of shadows, his presence fading from the World Tree.

Deep Space - A Weaponized Moon

Space stretched endlessly before them, Superman and Martian Manhunter flew through the emptiness, Superman's eyes glowed faintly with the power of his vision, his gaze fixed on the object that had appeared on the Watchtower's sensors, a massive moon, its surface scarred and pitted, its form radiating energy that should not have came from it, he said in confusion. "What is this? It is not Warworld, but it looks similar..." He paused, his eyes narrowing. "Are you sure this is the correct place?"

Martian Manhunter floated beside him, his green form blending with the darkness of space. "I am certain the anti-matter we detected is here. The readings from the Watchtower were precise. This moon is a weapon, a platform designed for destruction." He paused, his eyes scanning the surface below. "I expected we would find someone at least. A presence. A sign of the Anti-Monitor's forces.."

"Well, About that.." Superman said.

Then they appeared.

Humanoid figures emerged from the shadows of the moon's surface, their forms sleek, they carried weapons, rifles, their barrels crackling with power that seemed to devour the light around them. It was anti-matter.

They opened fire.

Superman moved, his body dodging at crazy speed, the beams passing through the space where he had been. Martian Manhunter phased, his form becoming intangible, the anti-matter bolts passing through him harmlessly.

"Those weapons are anti-matter! Do not get hit!" Manhunter warned.

Superman's eyes narrowed. "How can they use this?"

"Mobius armed them. That is the only explanation. The Anti-Monitor is building an army. He clearly wishes to conquer and erase life, much like Darkseid wants to conquer the universe." He paused, his eyes hardening. "He needs an army of his own." Manhunter said.

"Damn it.." Superman said.

They engaged in battle.

Superman moved with the speed of light, his fists connecting with the humanoid aliens, sending them hurtling through the void. Martian Manhunter's telepathic powers overwhelmed the minds of their enemies.

But the aliens kept coming, their numbers were great, their weapons relentless.

Superman's voice carried a note of frustration. "We need to find the source of this army, if there is so many of them here in the middle of nowhere, this means he got more of them.."

Martian Manhunter's voice carried the weight of grim acknowledgment. "Agreed. We need to.."

He paused and then his eyes widened.

His voice carried a note of dawning horror. "Clark... I sense something. Something vast and terrible. It is coming."

Superman's eyes followed his gaze.

And he saw it.

A vast shadow that can be seen even in the darkness of space, descending toward them from the darkness above.

"Is that... Arthur?" Superman whispered.

The shadow moved.

It descended upon the army of humanoid aliens like a tide of annihilation, its darkness consuming them, erasing them from existence. The anti-matter weapons fired, their beams striking the shadow, and doing nothing. The shadow simply absorbed them, devoured them, unmade them.

And then, from the heart of the darkness, a violet comet burst forth.

It tore through the weaponized moon, its form blazing with power. It emerged from the other side, its trail a streak of violet light that seemed to burn through the void.

And then the moon exploded.

The shockwave was cataclysmic a wave of destruction that would have sent Superman and Martian Manhunter hurtling through space. But before it could reach them, a violet energy field enveloped them, protecting them from the blast.

They floated in the void, their eyes fixed on the debris of the destroyed moon, their minds struggling to process what they had just witnessed.

And then, from the rubble, a figure emerged.

He floated toward them with the casual grace. His form was clad in cosmic shadow armor, his ashen white hair moved gently in the void, its edges catching the light like strands of silver. His eyes blazed with violet fire, brighter than before, more intense than they remembered.

And he was smiling.

Arthur's voice spoke directly inside their minds.

"Miss me?"

Superman stared at him, his voice barely a whisper. "Arthur... what have you become?"

Arthur's smile widened.

"I have become what I was always meant to be."
