Chapter 899 - Majin's New Journey

The Majin craned her head forward, the tentacle atop her skull whipping back as she fired off a murky energy wave with practiced stealth: "Turn into a chocolate cookie!"

Vegetto let out a cold laugh. "Tricks for children."

He sidestepped the energy wave with ease, grabbed the Majin's tentacle from the side, and with a savage wrench of both arms, tore the thing clean off — the pink, severed limb still twitching after it hit the ground. He didn't even glance at it. One casual flick of his hand, and the entire chunk of flesh was reduced to vapor.

"Damn you! Damn you! I'll make you pay for this!" The Majin trembled with rage from head to toe, and within the pink flesh, flickers of golden light pulsed rapidly.

Ino raised one hand, preparing to use her Time Domain ability. Vegetto shook his head at her — unnecessary.

Vegetto spread his five fingers, seized the Majin's right arm, and swung her hard into the ground. Then both fists began to fly in rapid succession — like pounding a punching bag — landing more than ten crushing blows one after another.

Rather than dissipating, the intense energy reaction building inside the Majin's body was growing fiercer with every hit, each strike triggering a more violent chain reaction than the last.

Every sapient being living on Earth felt it at that moment — an ominous dread, the gut-deep certainty that something catastrophic was about to happen.

Vegetto kept his own rhythm, continuing to batter the Majin's body without pause.

When the energy swelling inside the Majin reached its absolute limit, Vegetto let out a great roar and threw a barrier of golden Super Saiyan flame around Majin Buu, enveloping her completely.

"No!" The Majin finally understood what Vegetto was doing. She tried to abort the self-destruct sequence — but the energy now erupting from within her was already beyond her control.

A deep, concussive boom. The self-destruction that could have obliterated Earth whole — and possibly half the solar system along with it — was contained entirely within the barrier. Vegetto bore down with both arms, muscles bulging, veins standing out on his forehead. A touch of strain showed — but his power dwarfed the Majin's by such a margin that he held the explosion. Every last bit of it. One hundred percent contained.

Tracking the Majin down had eaten up half a day. The actual fight was over in under five minutes — and if you subtracted the time Vegetto spent showing off, the real combat was probably just a little over one minute.

"The Majin's cells should all be destroyed in the blast, right?" Vegetto looked up and asked the Grand Supreme Kai and Ino.

Both of them reached out with their senses.

"I don't see any anomalies in the timeline," Ino said. "What about you, Grand Supreme Kai?"

The Grand Supreme Kai thought it over and answered with notable uncertainty: "I have this feeling that the Majin wouldn't be eliminated so easily — but there genuinely aren't any Majin cells at the site. Vegetto's strategy was an unqualified success. The Majin should be dead."

Should be — what kind of answer is that.

Ino was less than satisfied with that response. She had a mountain of things to deal with and couldn't afford to keep spinning her wheels here.

She rummaged through her collection of war trophies and quickly turned up a white jade staff adorned with a pair of small wings.

This staff had belonged to a certain very powerful Celestial Mage.

She pointed it at the sky. "Majin Buu, fly here!"

Not even a flicker of a response from inside the staff. She tilted her head, thinking, then gave a slow nod. Right — she didn't know Celestial Magic.

She pulled out a ring next, flipped open the bezel, and held it up to the tiny needle inside. "Show me Majin Buu's location," she said softly.

The ring did nothing.

Ino scratched her head. Conventional methods weren't working. Looked like she'd have to do this the hard way.

"Wait here for word from me." She left a time clone in place and took her true body into Earth's Underworld.

Dead or alive — a trip to the Underworld would answer that question.

As a Supreme Kai, her divine authority already held dominion over the Underworld. Now that she had formally ascended to Supreme Kai, every low-ranking ghost and prison guard down here scrambled in terror, tripping over themselves to receive her.

"My task is simple." Ino settled herself on the Ghost Gate with the ease of someone who owned the place.

She pointed, and on the two pillars flanking the Ghost Gate, a pair of portraits of Majin Buu appeared.

"This individual is a Majin from the Demon Realm. It entered our Seventh Universe — entered our Underworld — under unknown circumstances. It is currently believed to have died on Earth. This one won't come to the Underworld like a law-abiding citizen. All of you — guards, soldiers, enlist some sharp-minded wandering spirits too — spread out and find it. Whoever locates it gets a reward from me."

Not a difficult task, exactly — just time-consuming and labor-intensive.

Sending all the prison guards out searching would also disrupt King Yama's work, but no matter — King Yama didn't mind at all. He shut the door to his office, dragged a chair out to the Ghost Gate, and sat down beside Ino to trade deadpan jokes.

The Underworld's ghost soldiers fanned out like a net. Whenever they spotted a wandering spirit, they went over to question it.

"What's your name?"

"Where do you live? How did you die?"

"Do you recognize the rotten scoundrel in this picture?"

Sifting through them one by one, like running grain through a sieve.

Ino didn't believe for a second that Majin Buu would respect Underworld law. No matter how cunning or disciplined the Majin had become, its savage nature hadn't changed — it would definitely be killing down here, and on a large scale at that.

She searched for a full three days in the Underworld. The ghost soldiers cast their net wide in a methodical sweep — and found no trace of Majin Buu whatsoever.

There was only one possible answer: this thing had never died at all.

...

And indeed, Majin Buu had not died. Before engaging Vegetto, she had detected Fortuneteller Baba's divination. The Majin's name contained the character for "demon" — naturally, she practiced magic as well. Fortuneteller Baba's power was far too weak; the moment the divination was complete, the Majin sensed it, and along with that awareness came a deeply, deeply bad premonition.

Fearing that Ino and the Grand Supreme Kai would discover her plan, the Majin followed the West Supreme Kai's method: she split her soul from her body and concealed herself inside a small dog at Mr. Satan's home.

It wasn't until the seventh day after Vegetto and the Earth warriors had departed that she finally crawled out from inside the dog.

Full recovery? Not a chance.

The cells of her true body had all been vaporized. Her current state bore a resemblance to how Orochimaru had once resurrected himself through a cursed seal — or to put it in plainer terms, it was like having her main account deleted and being left with only a secondary account. Equipment, levels, skills — she'd lost the better half of everything.

But thanks to the West Supreme Kai, her intellect had been preserved. She wouldn't end up like Kid Buu — howling nonsense all day, unable to string a sentence together.

Her avatar had become her main body, and her battle power wasn't even one-tenth of what it had been. Right now she couldn't beat Vegetto — she couldn't even fight a Saiyan without struggling.

What else was there to say? Run. Earth was far, far too dangerous.

She needed to grow strong again.

Son Goku's Instant Transmission required sensing a target's ki. The Supreme Kai's teleportation ability was different — Supreme Kais could instantaneously move between the Sacred World of the Kai and any planet they chose. When Shin and Kibito arrived on Earth, the Majin had learned that Supreme Kai teleportation technique as well.

Combining it with Son Goku's ki-sensing ability, she traveled to a remote planet in the far reaches of the universe.

Looking at a broken spear buried in a pile of rubble, the Majin smiled — a cold, dark smile.

From within that pile of rubble, a woman's voice sounded: "I am West Supreme Kai Leila. I did not die… Hmm? What — you're Majin Buu?! How could you possibly know I was hiding here? And how do you carry my aura within you? That's impossible! No! Don't — ahhh! —"
