In fact, she looked like a small angry string with horns. Her little mouth opened slightly, and Isabella could barely see anything there.
No grown fangs.
No sharp threat.
Just a tiny baby mouth.
Isabella's fear softened before it could fully grow.
"Oh," she whispered.

She bumped into Isabella's fingers first, then seemed to pause as if she had discovered something important. Her tiny mouth opened, and before Isabella could react, she latched onto Isabella's thumb and started sucking.
Isabella froze.

Isabella looked down at the tiny girl sucking on her thumb, and something warm spread through her chest so quickly that it almost hurt.
She had been scared for one second.
