Hydreigon—the pseudo-legendary Pokémon of the Unova region.
A Dark/Dragon-type Pokémon known for its brutality. It possesses six wings that allow it to remain airborne continuously, and since it has no legs, it almost never lands on the ground in its lifetime. It is an extremely difficult Pokémon to raise and is rare even in Unova itself.
Liam truly hadn't expected to encounter such a powerful Pokémon here in Johto.
He recalled that Gyokuryu Shigen once mentioned that the farthest he had traveled was to Unova. He also mentioned the Dragon Village. It seemed likely that this Hydreigon had some connection to Unova's Village of Dragon.
Watching Hydreigon hovering in midair, Liam's lips curled slightly. He then took out his final PokeBall and hurled it forward with force!
"The final battle, huh? Heh—fitting that it ends with Dragon versus Dragon! Very well! Come out, Garchomp! Show them your true strength!!"
"Graaah!!"
The PokeBall burst open midair, and Garchomp landed upon the already shattered battlefield. Slowly raising its head, it bared its fangs at the hovering Hydreigon and let out a low growl.
"Ah… that differently colored Garchomp again. I can feel it—this Garchomp is far stronger than when I first saw it. Truly astonishing potential…"
Gyokuryu Shigen's eyes were filled with admiration as he looked Garchomp up and down. If they weren't in the middle of a battle, he might have even gone up to inspect it personally.
Liam finally cleared his throat.
"Ahem. You flatter us, sir. It's getting late—let's begin."
"Oh! Ahem—right! Referee! Start the match!"
Snapped back to reality, Gyokuryu Shigen quickly turned to the announcer.
"Y-yes! The Champion Challenge Final! Hydreigon versus Garchomp! Battle—Begin!!"

"Let's go, Garchomp! This opponent is extremely strong—be careful! We'll attack first! Charge in! Use Brick Break!!"
"Graaah!!"
At the very start, Liam seized the initiative.
Garchomp stomped the ground and shot forward like a streak of white light! Its fin-like forelimbs glowed with crimson Fighting-type energy. In the blink of an eye, it reached beneath Hydreigon and leapt upward, roaring as it brought one glowing fin down in a fierce overhead slash!
"Fall back and dodge, Hydreigon!"
"Grrraah!"
Hydreigon reacted instantly. All six wings flapped simultaneously, and it drifted backward like a phantom—light as air—perfectly evading the strike.
Garchomp landed cleanly on the ground.
And at that exact moment—
"Now, Hydreigon! Tri Attack!"
"Grrraah!"
Three different colored energies gathered in Hydreigon's three mouths—
Ice! Fire! Electricity!
The three elements formed a massive rotating triangle and shot downward toward Garchomp!
"Garchomp! Take to the air and dodge!"
"Graaah!"
Garchomp crouched, roared, and launched backward before flapping its fins powerfully—lifting off and narrowly evading the Tri Attack!
"Garchomp! Use Dragon Claw!"
"Graaah!!"
Midair, Garchomp's forelimbs elongated under draconic energy. It opened its jaws wide and surged forward, raising a glowing claw to slash at Hydreigon!
"Don't let it get close! Use Flamethrower!"
"Grrraah!!"
Hydreigon unleashed blazing torrents of fire from all three mouths, instantly turning the sky before it into a sea of flames!
"Graaah!"
Facing a wall of fire, Garchomp roared and tucked in its fins—then blasted forward like a jet fighter! The powerful air current it generated split the flames apart as it pierced through the inferno and emerged above Hydreigon!
"Garchomp! Use Stone Edge!!"
"Graaah!"
From above, Garchomp roared. A ring of razor-sharp white stones materialized around it—after half a rotation, they rained down like a deadly storm!
"Block it, Hydreigon! Use Dark Pulse!"
"Grrraah!!"
Hydreigon aimed all three heads upward and fired one large and two smaller waves of dark energy. The pulses collided violently with the descending stones—explosions erupted, and thick smoke mixed with stone fragments blanketed the sky.
And in that instant—
"Garchomp! Use Dragon Rush!!"
"GRAAAH!!"
A thunderous dragon's roar split the air. Garchomp burst through the smoke in the form of a massive energy dragon and slammed directly into Hydreigon! The spectral dragon jaws clamped down as both Pokémon plummeted toward the ground!
Just before impact—
"Hydreigon! Use Outrage!!"
"Grrraah!!"
BOOM!!!
Garchomp's Dragon Rush struck first, smashing Hydreigon into the battlefield with devastating force! The entire arena was engulfed in a swirling sandstorm from the impact!
But then—
Through the dust, a white figure leapt out and landed before Liam.
"Graaah!"
It was Garchomp.
Despite landing a direct hit, Garchomp showed no sign of relief. Its body was tense, eyes locked forward, fully alert.
From the air came a low growl—
"Grrraah~"
Hydreigon slowly rose from the smoke-filled crater. Its body was covered in visible wounds, clearly injured by the previous strike.
Yet something was different. Its entire body was wrapped in a golden-red aura. Its eyes glowed a fierce crimson.
"This…? Outrage? No… there's something else mixed in…"
Liam frowned, sensing trouble.
Then—
"Roar, Hydreigon!"
"GRRRAAAH!!!"
"Use Draco Meteor!!"
"Grrraaaah!!!"
Hydreigon threw its central head back and formed a blazing red sphere of energy. With a mighty roar, it fired the orb high into the sky.
BOOM!!!
The orb exploded midair—
And in the next second—
Countless flaming meteors descended like a fiery meteor shower, crashing down upon the battlefield!!
