Dawn woke to the soft morning light coming through the curtains.
For a few seconds, she stayed still; her eyes were still heavy with sleep.
When she didn't feel Jamal beside her, she reached out and frowned when she didn't feel him on the bed.
She opened her eyes fully.
Jamal's side of the bed was empty.
She lifted her head and looked around the room. The bathroom door was open.
His clothes from last night were gone from the chair.
His shoes were gone too.
Dawn picked up her phone from the bedside table.
There was no message.
She frowned. "Where did he go?"
She quickly dialled his number.
The phone rang twice before he answered.
"Hey. Good morning, babe."
Dawn sat up. "Where are you?"
"Sorry. I had to leave early."
Her brows pulled together. "You left? When?"
"A little while ago. I had to leave early to take care of something."
Dawn looked at the empty space beside her. "And you didn't think to wake me?"
"I didn't want to disturb you."
