Chapter 33 - Chapter 32: The Thunder Contract

Chapter 32: The Thunder Contract

The days after the first resonance did not bring clarity.

Only expansion.

Something Shin could feel but not yet explain.

Kakashi had changed.

Not outwardly.

Not in personality.

But in presence.

The way the air responded when he moved.

The way his chakra no longer felt entirely singular.

Shin noticed it immediately.

And that meant the system had not stopped evolving.

On the third day, Shin called Kakashi and Hikari to the training grounds again.

The air was already tense when they arrived.

Hikari crossed her arms. "If this is another experiment, I want compensation."

Kakashi didn't respond. His attention was already elsewhere.

On Shin.

Shin stepped forward.

"This isn't Phenex," he said calmly.

That made Hikari pause.

Kakashi narrowed his eye slightly. "Then what is it?"

Shin hesitated.

Because this part was different.

Not stable.

Not confirmed.

But real.

"I don't know its full form yet," Shin admitted.

A pause.

"But the system marked it as something that responds to lightning nature users."

Hikari frowned. "So Kakashi again?"

Shin nodded.

But this time, something felt off.

The bracelet on Shin's wrist pulsed faintly.

Not warm like Phenex.

Not structured like Dantalion.

But unstable.

Like something trying to exist before it was complete.

Kakashi exhaled slowly. "You're asking me to test something you don't understand."

Shin didn't deny it. "Yes."

A beat.

"That's exactly what I'm doing."

Hikari immediately stepped forward. "That sounds like a terrible idea."

Kakashi, however, didn't move.

He just watched Shin.

"…What happens if it fails?"

Shin answered honestly.

"I don't know yet."

Silence.

The wind passed through the training ground.

Then Kakashi spoke.

"Then we find out."

Hikari snapped her head toward him. "You're insane."

Kakashi shrugged slightly. "Probably."

Then he stepped forward.

"I've already been changed once," he said quietly. "I want to know how far it goes."

Shin hesitated.

This wasn't Phenex.

This wasn't healing.

This was something incomplete.

A Djinn resonance without a true vessel.

A possibility.

Not a contract.

Yet.

Shin raised his hand slowly.

The system responded.

[Household Vessel Expansion Path Detected]

[Unknown Djinn Resonance — Lightning Attribute Syncing]

[Warning: Incomplete Entity Formation]

The air cracked.

Not violently.

But sharply.

Like reality misaligned for a single breath.

Kakashi's body tensed instantly.

"…This feeling again."

But it was different from before.

Not stable.

Not shaped.

Just pressure.

Then—

a flicker of blue light formed in the space between them.

A blade shape.

Incomplete.

Unformed.

Like lightning trying to become metal.

Hikari stepped back instinctively. "That's not a weapon…"

Shin's eyes narrowed.

Because it wasn't.

Not yet.

Kakashi's hand moved slightly forward.

The moment he touched the flickering construct—

electricity surged.

Not destructive.

But binding.

His chakra reacted violently for a second—

then stabilized.

Kakashi froze.

"…It's syncing."

The incomplete lightning blade pulsed once.

Then collapsed into his hand.

Not fully formed.

But imprinted.

A temporary vessel projection.

A prototype resonance.

Kakashi stared at his palm.

"…What is this supposed to be?"

Shin exhaled slowly.

"I think it's a candidate."

Hikari frowned. "A candidate for what?"

Shin looked at the fading blue residue in Kakashi's hand.

"For something I haven't unlocked yet."

Silence.

Then Kakashi flexed his fingers.

"I can feel lightning responding to it," he said quietly.

Shin nodded. "It's not Baal."

A pause.

"But it might become something like it."

Hikari crossed her arms. "That is not comforting at all."

Kakashi, however, gave a faint exhale.

"…Still useful."

Shin looked at him.

"You're not worried?"

Kakashi shrugged. "If it explodes later, I'll adjust."

That was his answer to everything.

Shin gave a faint, tired smile.

"…Of course you will."
