Daxter leaned his back against the cold leather seat. His sharp eyes stared straight ahead, watching a silver van that had just driven away from the apartment complex. Inside that van was Viola, or Veronica the wife he had believed had vanished from this world fifteen years ago.
He did not order his driver to speed up. His black car merely kept a safe distance, just enough to ensure the van's taillights remained within his sight. Inside the silence of the soundproof cabin, Daxter rolled that new name around in his mind.
Viola Jane Clark.
All this time, he had been too fixated on the changes in her face, the way she spoke, and the gaze in her eyes that had become far sharper yet fragile at the same time. But that last name… Clark. It felt as though a missing puzzle piece had finally fallen perfectly into place, making Daxter freeze for a moment.
"Clark…" he whispered softly.
