Chapter 183 - ambush

A missile.

He had been hit by a missile.

And not only had it connected...

It had hurt him.

A lot.

Which, honestly, shouldn't have been surprising.

little people could take a direct hit from military-grade weaponry and simply walk away.

The fact that he was still conscious—still standing at all—was only thanks to Life Dew an barrier.

The gentle blue light continued flowing across his body, repairing torn muscles, and soothing the burns that covered his skin. The technique was performing miracles...

But miracles had a cost.

He could feel his psychic reserves dropping at an alarming rate.

Healing this level of damage wasn't cheap, he had casted life dew multiple times.

He needed to recover quickly before the energy expenditure became another problem altogether.

His vision remained blurry.

The world swayed from side to side.

Every breath felt painful, as though his lungs themselves had been scorched by the explosion.

At the same time, his thoughts raced.

The priest?

Was it him?

But how the hell could he have prepared a missile?

No.

That couldn't be right.

The priest had been lying on the ground only moments ago.

Unless...

No.

His mind desperately tried to connect the pieces, but none of them fit together.

Staggering sideways, Mewtwo struggled just to remain standing.

Even after surviving the blast itself, the sheer concussive force of a military missile had shaken his entire body.

His balance was compromised.

His senses were dulled.

Life Dew wasn't restoring him quickly enough.

He glanced down at his arms.

The skin was badly burned, patches of flesh still blackened despite the healing energy slowly repairing them.

Even breathing hurt.

Each inhale sent a burning sensation through his chest.

Worst of all...

He had absolutely no idea who had attacked him.

His thoughts ran at incredible speed.

Barely a second had passed since he had crashed into the ground.

Only one second.

Yet in that tiny span of time, his mind had already considered dozens of possibilities.

Then...

The second second began.

Before his eyesight had even fully recovered...

His psychic senses screamed.

Something was descending from above.

Fast.

Far too fast.

His condition was still poor enough that Mewtwo didn't even bother looking.

There wasn't time.

"Barrier."

The familiar sphere of psychic light instantly reappeared around him.

The translucent dome had barely finished forming—

BOOM!!

Two gigantic fists slammed into it from above.

Each one was nearly the size of a small car.

The impact was monstrous.

The barrier held...

But the force drove the entire sphere several meters into the ground, carving a massive crater beneath him.

The earth shattered in every direction.

Deep cracks spread across the battlefield.

Even inside the barrier, Mewtwo felt his knees bend under the pressure.

At the same time, he poured even more psychic energy into Life Dew, forcing the healing technique to work harder.

Slowly...

His vision became clear again.

The dizziness faded.

His breathing steadied.

But the instant he regained enough awareness—

Another attack came.

From the side.

A torrent of brilliant blue flames roared toward him.

The inferno crashed against the barrier with terrifying force.

The psychic shield endured.

It didn't crack.

But the temperature rose almost immediately.

The heat became unbearable.

It was unlike ordinary fire.

These flames burned far hotter than anything he had ever experienced.

Realizing he couldn't remain trapped inside his own shield, Mewtwo finally retaliated.

He thrust both hands outward.

"Psychock!"

Twin waves of overwhelming psychic force exploded from opposite sides of the barrier, blasting outward with enough power to tear through the surrounding landscape.

Under the current circumstances, he couldn't afford precision.

He abandoned restraint completely.

For the first time in the battle...

He attacked with his full power.

The pressure cleared enough space.

Without wasting a single instant, Mewtwo launched himself skyward once again.

He needed distance.

Just a few seconds.

Enough time to breathe.

Enough time to let Life Dew finish repairing the remaining damage.

Only then could he properly assess the battlefield.

Because one thing had already become painfully clear.

Up until this moment...

This was, by far, the most ruthless assault he had ever experienced.

Then, without giving him even a moment to breathe...

Another attack came.

A massive slash descended from the sky.

The blade of compressed force tore through the air directly toward him, forcing Mewtwo to instinctively reinforce his barrier.

The impact had barely settled when another figure dropped from above like a meteor.

BOOM!

The collision drove him straight back into the ground.

Before he could recover...

The giant metal fists struck again.

His barrier was battered from every direction, bouncing him around like a ball trapped inside an iron cage.

One impact after another.

Then the blue flames returned.

The scorching inferno engulfed the barrier once more, and this time...

Cracks began spreading across its surface.

Thin at first.

Then larger.

The psychic shield groaned under the relentless assault.

Fortunately...

Life Dew had almost finished its work.

The burns disappeared.

His breathing steadied.

The dizziness faded.

His body wasn't at one hundred percent...

But he no longer felt like he was on the verge of dying.

That alone changed everything.

Then...

The four attackers closed in simultaneously.

They surrounded him from every direction, striking the barrier over and over in an attempt to pin him down before he could escape.

Mewtwo thrust both hands outward, pouring even more psychic energy into the shield.

The barrier expanded violently, pushing against the attackers.

Still...

It wasn't enough.

They simply kept coming.

Now that his condition had stabilized, however...

He closed his eyes for the briefest instant.

Calm Mind.

His breathing slowed.

His thoughts sharpened.

His psychic energy, previously chaotic from the damage and healing, suddenly began flowing smoothly once again.

Everything became clearer.

His perception expanded.

And immediately...

He sensed three more presences approaching the battlefield.

His eyes narrowed.

He recognized them.

The same creatures that had assaulted him and his classmates before.

The monsters with exposed brains.

Nomu.

A flash of light suddenly exploded above him.

Lightning crashed directly against the barrier.

At the exact same moment...

Another torrent of blue flames slammed into it from the opposite side.

The attacks overlapped perfectly.

A coordinated assault.

Yet...

With every passing second...

Mewtwo's concentration only deepened.

His breathing became calmer.

His mind quieter.

Until...

Every single figure surrounding him heard a single word.

"ENOUGH!"

The earth shook.

An overwhelming burst of psychic power erupted outward in every direction.

The barrier itself became the center of an invisible explosion.

Every attacker was blown away simultaneously.

The four surrounding him.

The ones attacking from the sky.

Even the newly arrived Nomu.

All seven enemies were hurled dozens of meters through the air before crashing violently across the battlefield.

Seven opponents.

They had sent seven powerful enemies against him.

And before all of that...

A military missile.

Mewtwo slowly floated upward from the crater, still surrounded by the remains of his psychic barrier.

His violet eyes glowed with overwhelming intensity.

He was furious.

Truly furious.

Without another word...

He activated Agility.

His body vanished.

In the blink of an eye, he appeared directly in front of the only human among them.

The young man with patchwork burns covering his face and brilliant blue flames dancing around his body.

Mewtwo stared straight into his eyes.

"You're going to answer my questions..."

"...wannabe Endeavor."

For some reason...

Those words struck a nerve.

The scarred young man froze for an instant before his face twisted into an expression of pure hatred.

It was the kind of rage Mewtwo had rarely seen in another person.

Before either of them could move—

The largest Nomu charged in from the side.

It resembled a gigantic gorilla.

Its massive forearms were grotesquely oversized, while its fists...

No.

Its entire hands were made of solid metal.

So that was it.

That explained the monstrous impact from earlier.

Being ambushed that way had already left an incredibly bitter taste in Mewtwo's mouth.

He had no intention of holding back any longer.

Without even turning his head, he extended one arm toward the charging Nomu.

Golden and violet energy rapidly condensed into a brilliant sphere in the palm of his hand.

Hyper Beam.

A colossal ray of destructive energy erupted forward.

The beam swallowed the giant creature whole.

The blast launched the Nomu hundreds of meters away, tearing chunks of flesh from its body and ripping through its armored frame as though it were nothing more than paper.

The sheer difference in power made the exchange look almost effortless.

Like a child trying to stop a hurricane.

The scarred young man watched the entire scene unfold.

A slow smirk spread across his face.

"...What a monster."

"yes, and you annoyed me" exclaimed mewtwo,

At the same time, the remaining monsters arrived one after another, forming a circle around Mewtwo.

Within moments, they had completely surrounded him.

Oddly enough...

None of them attacked immediately.

They simply stood there, waiting.

Of course, Mewtwo wasn't about to waste such an opportunity.

Every second they hesitated was another second for Life Dew to continue repairing the damage his body had suffered.

The blue healing light quietly flowed across his wounds as he observed each opponent, carefully analyzing them.

Then his gaze settled on the only human among them.

"Now..." Mewtwo spoke calmly, despite everything that had happened. "Are you going to surrender?"

His glowing eyes never left the scarred young man.

"As far as I can tell, you're the one giving them orders. At least... you're the only one here with proper thoughts."

A brief pause.

"...Isn't that right, Touya?"

The moment those words left his mouth—

Dabi exploded into motion.

His expression twisted with fury.

He thrust both hands forward, releasing a massive torrent of blue flames that surged toward Mewtwo like a tidal wave.

Mewtwo didn't even raise his voice.

"Confusion."

An invisible psychic pulse expanded outward.

Instead of trying to overpower the flames, the wave distorted their trajectory, scattering the blazing inferno to both sides and opening a clear path directly ahead.

At that exact instant, one of the Nomu lunged.

Its tail shot toward him with incredible speed.

The appendage resembled a gigantic blade, sharp enough to slice through reinforced steel.

Maintaining the barrier indefinitely would only continue draining his energy.

So Mewtwo abandoned it.

He pivoted on the spot, twisting his body just enough for the blade-like tail to pass mere centimeters in front of him.

Then he counterattacked.

"Psycho Cut."

A razor-thin crescent of psychic energy flashed through the air.

The invisible blade passed cleanly across the Nomu's tail.

For a brief instant...

Nothing happened.

Then the severed appendage slid to the ground.

The tail had been cut off as effortlessly as if it had been paper.

Without it, the creature had effectively lost its primary weapon.

And unlike humans...

Nomu deserved no hesitation.

Mewtwo immediately closed the remaining distance.

Before the creature could recover, he thrust one hand toward its exposed brain.

"Psychock."

The concentrated psychic blast struck directly into its nervous system.

The Nomu collapsed instantly.

Its body hit the ground without another movement.

Dead.

At the same time, Dabi's voice echoed across the battlefield.

"Kill him!"

"Kill him!"

"KILL HIM!"

His orders became increasingly frantic.

Even his own flames seemed unstable now, surging wildly as though his emotions were beginning to affect his control.

Still...

Mewtwo had already understood something important.

The Nomu were undeniably powerful.

The ambush itself had been carefully planned.

But without the missile...

Without that first devastating strike...

They never would have pushed him this far.

That opening attack had been the key to everything.

Then his attention shifted toward another figure.

The lightning Nomu.

Unlike the others...

It hadn't rushed forward after the initial assault.

It simply stood there.

Watching.

Observing.

Waiting.

That alone made it different.

One after another, Mewtwo continued dismantling the attackers surrounding him.

Every exchange ended the same way.

A Nomu fell.

Another was crippled.

Another was blown away.

Until...

Without warning...

Smoke suddenly erupted across the battlefield.

Thick, unnatural clouds rolled over the ground.

The surviving Nomu disappeared into the mist, dragged away before Mewtwo could finish them.

Whoever had orchestrated the ambush had decided to abandon the operation.

When the smoke finally settled...

Only two enemies remained.

Dabi.

And the lightning Nomu.

Silence filled the battlefield.

Then...

The lightning Nomu spoke.

"Finally..."

"A challenge."

...

Hello guys I've decided, I will start with the solo leveling fic.

I like the transformation tropes so the power will have to do with that.
